His chat at the end made me so mad fr. It's actually unbelievable how stubborn and uncapable of comprehending any other issue other than depression they are. How little mental vision do you need to have to just miss the whole point that Coda isn't actually depressed? That the one depressed is the narrator and that he was using Coda's work as a reflection of himself? It makes me so mad how people don't even try to see a little bit more than what's in front of them and the struggles of others.
YES! That’s what I was saying
This and the fact they were legitimately getting mad at Davey suggesting the irl developer needs help when it’s pretty obvious that coda and davey are the same person gets me upset too.
Could it not be the case that both of them had issues? That part in Coda's game in which the word "speak" is repeated multiple times didn't exactly suggest a healthy state of mind (particularly when we also take into account the fact that he had made an entire game in which he was essentially talking to himself and also one in which the player keeps going away from a stage towards darkness). We may fault Mr Wreden for projecting his feelings onto someone else, but isn't it equally true that we live in a world wherein many signs of depression are tragically noticed too late. I think that a balanced perspective is required.
@@MrPeaceGuy54you’re missing the point that this is a work of fiction. There is no Coda and Davey isn’t actually irl Davey. It’s meant to be a thought experiment on judging someone and learning exactly who they are through their work without getting to know them as a person. It’s literally meant to be about the death of the artist and to detach art from the artist
@@angel__king The "For R" part makes me think that this wasn't entirely fictional. There is no doubt that there can be a variety of perspectives with a game like this. Personally, I accept the deeper message you wrote (not sinplsitically judging someone without properly knowing who they really are) while simultaneously believing that there was at least an element of reality to this this.
May you have a good day!
The moment everybody realized that the lampposts Coda supposedly added to put a destination into his games, the ones Davey put so much emphasis on, were added by Davey, the silence was reeeeaaaaally loud
"Each metaphor that “Coda” had placed into his games was, in fact,Davey's own cry for help. Davey has declined to comment on The Beginner's Guide, other than to explain that Coda is fictional and does not exist. He leaves the game up to interpretation." the story is true, but it's all about Davey and what he did to himself in the past
wait, coda isnt real or smth? im confused lmao
edit: i jsut finished watching i get it now LMAO
@@velscript "coda" is davey
he was basically explaining how he ruined his life at the time but in 1st person, and the apologizing? i guess he wished he could've changed what happened before and just wanted things to be how they were before he tried getting attention from exposing his games
like apologizing to your younger self for what you've done but not exactly being sorry because you wanted the attention
it's like a split personality in a way
@@velscript god damn i didn't see that edit but good job on figuring it out
and yet you fail to see the irony in this comment
This game did look a bit odd in its first 10 minutes, but as you watch you start to understand the hidden messages it has. We won’t know for sure if it’s actually based on real life or if Coda is real, but I feel like many people can relate to this game because of its deep, psychological meaning. Thanks Ant for the play throughs, and for the all hard work you do for your channels! I really enjoy your content.
Coda is not real. This game is based on the writer/narrator’s real life experience. When he created the Stanley Parable, he said he felt sad that the public had access to something that was personal to him. He was meant to represent Coda.
... I disagree. I think its quite apparent that Coda is not real. There would be so many bad implications of it if it were real. I think the game is so good is because it convinces you that it is real. I believe Davey even specified it wasn't a real person... but in my opinion thats what makes the game so interesting. The name Coda itself is definitely just a spin on "Coder" and I believe whats displayed in this game is supposed be the battle between the way davey expresses himself through his games (which is coda) and the person he truly is, and where exactly to draw the line. Coda is expression, whereas Davey is the person. I believe these games, and the dates, are actually accurate to when they were made, and I believe it is a collection of games Davey has made, and how he has evolved creatively through game development throughout the years. It is a game of struggle of artistic expression and how terribly draining it can be to feel so alone and burnt out, but not knowing what else to do because this form of expression is all you have. Davey feels as if he has poisoned his games by trying to add more meaning and structure to it; solutions.... instead of just letting the artistic expression just be what it is. It ruined game development for him, and it wasn't until he took a step back that he found his footing again and made the decision to start letting himself have fun with his work again, as he knew how terrible it was when he lost himself in it and worked tirelessly with nobody but himself as an echo chamber. And this decision is what ultimately lead to the creation of Stanley Parable. A game where he didn't care about how pointless or silly it was, it was just simply what he wanted to make. the creation of Stanley Parable is genuinely the happy ending to this game haha, it lets us know that he picked himself up and found his way through all of the chaos of his artistic journey.
I feel like the chat miss understood Davey, I don't think he has a god complex. It's a lot deeper than that to be honest. I related way to much with Davey though, it's a bit frightening.
i was kinda getting second hand embarrassment seeing how the chat was judging davey when i had the full knowledge that coda isnt real but they didnt know that so whatever
All jokes aside, this looks like a very interesting game with incredible depth and meaning behind it
I really hope the narrator,Coda, and who ever relates to this games can find happiness :)
I can never experience playing this game for the first time ever again, but I can atleast experience others playing it and seeing how they react, I’ll be honest , I shed some tears and laid back for an hour or so. I can only imagine what going from making games for yourself to feeling the need to change to make it easier for public consumption in turn kind of losing the original happiness you got from it brought Dave because of the Stanley Parable, probably hit like a whiplash being in the public eye because of the game.
I was confused the first 10mins but as we went on i understood everything. It makes my heart sad in a different way. I can relate to this so much. It really hits deep.
this the typa stuff my eng teacher wants in my essays
I don't know what to exactly feel about this ending tbh. The narrator always believed that there was alwags solutions, but the ending, it seemed like it didn't end with a solution. Am I making any sense?
I guess it's kind of an act of acceptance of everything that has happened and he just decided to end it. That's it.
I honestly also relate to Codi. He wasn't really frustrated or depressed about the struggles of making a game and he just really loved making games. It's like his passion. He made games whenever he wanted to, and wether those games has somewhere to be or not, wether it had an ending, a solution or not, that's not what really matters. He just loved doing it I guess. As a writer, there are a lot struggles in it, but I still loved coming up with novel ideas in my head, I loved putting it into life, I loved writing. So I guess that's the one thing Davey didn't really understand.
I honestly despised him a bit, but also felt pity for him. He wanted to feel good about somethin, not knowing he actually hurt somebody else, a friend even. It's just really pathetic and funny at the same time how he wanted to apologize to Codi but in order to make himself not feel bad anymore, not because he has hurt his friend. It's like he still has not realized what his mistake was, what was wrong in what he did to make him feel good, how ignorant he was really. It's like his in mind it was "What's wrong about making my self feel good about something I did? What's wrong with that. " It honestly makes me sad for him.
It feels like Coda and Davey are the same person, he enjoyed making games, and felt it was his passion, and that sometime it did not have a meaning, or solution, but in the press scene it could have shown the influence people around him had on him, the way other people put words, and put meanings onto his games, and how they tried to solve it, and narrator in this case being part of that press aka the influence of the people around him, which eventually led to his games being MADE to be playable, in the end he apologised for ruining the meaning of games for himself, but you would never know, as in the beginning he seemed to be dead serious about the emailing and things. Guess we'll never know.
Honestly, if we're talking about narrator almost all of info from him is extremely unreliable. Just listen what he is saying
coda doesn’t exist. dave made the games.
i’m so happy that ant finally played this game. This was so unexpected and after dish played it, i was so in love with beginners guide and i’m so happyyy, get well soon ant!

I love this game so much. It has so much depth and its interesting being able to get to know coda and davey's characters.
i think this is forever gonna be a comfort game for me.
dude this made me cry so hard
I was bawling my eyes out almost the whole game... So relatable 😢
I CRIED SO BAD AT THE END😭
The prison is, in fact, the place where Coda would hide from Dave. From fame and people. Because they would ask for more.
So, he did the puzzle, he gave Dave empty games, holding him occupied.
He didn t wanted his art to be showed.
There was this part of the cleaning process, where Coda was doing good. But it stoped. The calm music and the peace moment stop.
Thinking that Coda had problems, Dave started becoming miserable, frustrated, angry. Why he won t show up his work? Why is he feeling like that ??
So, he started doing that with a group of people and there more. But never showed them the tour, in which Coda asked him to stop. That s why, no one saw a problem with his games
He created this illusion, this idea, that, if he shows up his work, Coda would feel better.
He failed seeing that the only problem was him, asking for more, even when he knew he shouldn t. And eventually, Coda left.
Coda left, because there was no solution for someone who couldn t see how he felt, and, in plus, doing much worse. And he was right, because what Dave felt, what he did. It wasn t his Problem. He couldn t solve, what was inside his friend.
And, by making all those games with no solutions, Coda showed Dave, everytime, that he can make them and wait, but there are no endings and no solutions for this situation.
This wasn t about Coda from the beginning. It was about Dave.
Dave, even in the end, hasn t realised what he did wrong. So, he also left, but waiting for his lost friend, for his games to come back.
A story about someone enjoying on making games and someone wanting to show them to the world.
Not everything has to be saw by everyone. He only send those games, because he wanted to share with his friend what he did.
I hope people can understand. 🙌🏻🤍
