- This promo was played to promote the fact that SBS multi-cultural TV was coming to each city on a UHF channel (28 in most cities, different channel in most country areas).
I remember this in Brisbane and the Gold Coast getting all the commercial stations on UHF from Mt, Tambourine back in the mid 80’s and digital TV on the Gold Coast is UHF and in Brisbane is VHF for digital Tv.
I remember this changeover well, turned out our VHF aerial received SBS on UHF just fine. Reception was vastly improved from the VHF Ch 0 signal.
Receiving SBS channels today in the 21st century is much easier as Digital TV broadcasts are all on either VHF or UHF depending on which transmitter your aerial is receiving them from…that or there is also the option of Satellite 📡 dish reception via Foxtel or LIVE streaming via the SBS ON-DEMAND app and website
The same process applied to tune the new commercial stations in aggregated regional markets in 1989-92. You'd still need a UHF TV and a UHF antenna to receive them.
Network 0-28 (which gradually evolved into what is now known as SBS TV during the 1980’s) was always tricky to receive in certain areas of Australia as analogue UHF TV signals were always more susceptible to picture issues due to natural terrain or buildings obstructing reception compared to analogue VHF TV signals.
Similar to when we changed to digital one had to get a digital box 😁
I used to enjoy installing them aerials
UHF = Ultra Hard to Find.
But for now on digital format
Gee... Barney Rubble lost a lot of weight!
