The Newsreader takes us back to 1986 - when Halley’s Comet was a must see, the AIDS crisis was taking hold and the Challenger explosion shocked the world.
Amongst it all, newsreader Helen Norville (Anna Torv) is determined to build her credibility, while her colleague Dale Jennings (Sam Reid) is desperate to become a newsreader. From messy beginnings, they will form an unlikely bond that will transform the very fabric of the nightly news bulletin.
The Newsreader also stars Robert Taylor, William McInnes, Michelle Lim Davidson, Stephen Peacocke, Chai Hansen, Chum Ehelepola and Marg Downey.

That Part near the end when she sees him and her face changes and the empathy and compassion shows and she embraces him with understanding and a deep humane love. unforgettable.
The Newsreader is currently being shown on the BBC. If you like dramas about the media and nostalgia, then you will love this. Great ensemble cast.

Everything I knew about Australia as a kid was based on Crocodile Dundee and BMX Bandits.
Love Sam Reid. Anxious to see if we see it on Netflix or Prime.
Wish they showed their teen pictures in the 80s at least. Or as young adults with their first child. Would give better perspective to those who couldn’t imagine life 40 years ago
Anna Torv would've been around 5-6 yrs old, when Madonna's song 'Like A Virgin' was popular.
Who lets their kid that young, wear stuff like that. 😳
I believe only a few of the people in this clip would even be able to give a proper perspective on what the 80's was truly like, all round.
The rest, who would have been a kid just like me, are only going to know about the toys and kids/young teen fashion and how carefree it was for kids in that time and such. They wouldn't really understand or comprehend the landscape for news readers and the news in general.

Paul Hogan put Australia on the map? LOL Umm, I think Olivia Newton John did that!
And certainly, Colleen McCullough's "The Thorn Birds" novel and the subsequent mini-series had the world buzzing about Oz -- _long_ before Hogan came on the scene.
Note to the makers of the Newsreader, The 80s were not in sepia.
