Truly. On a Cheri Oteri marathon right now. Such an underrated Snl cast member.
I graduated from high school in 1978 and the clothes, hair, and music are on point.
I wore that same tux to my prom ‘79!!!
The groom and ushers wore that same tux and we bridesmaids wore off the shoulder pink gowns very similar to Cheri's at my sister's wedding in 1979. And the wedding dance song was "Always And Forever,"
Sheri Oteri is the only person who could ever upstage let alone keep up with Will Ferrel

Upstaging bad? You mean from Will Ferrel's perpective? I see your point, egos and careers are at stake. But Will Ferrell at least from today's perspective is no one -trick- pony. If someone was killing him on "Anchorman?" That would be different. This sketch needs another killer to work. Will Ferrell is a comedic genius. Cheri Oteri is a comedic genius. That means they're not just funny, they bring something original to the party. Heretofore never seen before, impossible to imitate. Yeah the writers have to be great too. Look closely, Oteri and Ferrell are not bringing the same energy. She's 1.a to his 1.b. You can't keep your eyes off her. Her dancing is beyond captivating. You know what, she's exactly like Chris Kattan in "Roxbury." Great comedic dancing is underrated. The killer of them all is Jim Carrey's dance in "The Mask." No, I don't think Will Ferrel's ego was shattered by this. He's too talented.
My favorite Comedic dancer is Paul Rudd! That guy moves in such a hilarious way. Watch his lip sync battle with Fallon on the tonight show when he does “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. You can’t teach that kind of timing or hip action. Cracks me up every time. Of course, Rob Lowe and Julia Louis Dreyfus are the standard of portraying bad dancing!
@@shawnuel Paul Rudd can dance? Jesus. Everybody we've mentioned: Ferrell, Oteri, Rudd, Dreyfus, Carrey, Fallon, Kattan are born performers. You just look forward to seeing them on stage or screen. They're front and center even in supporting roles. The smartest thing Ferrell and Adam McCay ever did was to surround Will F. with Rudd, Steve Carell, David F and Cristine A. in "Anchorman." Everybody mentioned above have been in big hits and big flops, but they're all so good that their careers keep chugging along. It's called star power, and they're stars for a reason.
These two had the best chemistry! Love ya Cheri.

Sheri Oteri is amazing. Gilda Radner is like a unicorn: everyone talks about her but she wasn’t really seen. Through the years there have been AMAZING female members: Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Kate McKinnon, Molly Shannon, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, Kristen Wiig and others who are still on the show. Most have built a solid career in front and behind the cameras. Why Gilda is always mentioned boggles my mind. Maybe because she died so young. But she was there only 5 seasons and nothing was really memorable.

@@sagasitches6730 Stephanie's right. I saw a doc on SNL. Apparently, the writers make changes up until the show is filmed, sometimes during. That's why it's sometimes so obvious when the actors are reading cue cards.
Well for one it was a skit they have been doing on Groundlings way before they were cast on SNL. Also most of skit that Cheri Oteri as the lead she likely was the writer of it so no need for cue cards.
They have always used cue cards

When these two were performing, it was nothing short of comedic genius. Cheri Oteri was his perfect foil and you can see them both just ripping it up. I'd bet only a tiny portion of those skits were scripted fully.

SNL was so good back then! They had their lines memorized. No reading of cue cards. Current SNL cast is soooo bad about that. Literally anyone could be in the sketches if they know how to read.

Have you noticed when Will Ferrell was in his late 20s... he was already playing alot characters in there late 30s, and middle age... because he already looked much older than he actually was!.. but yet again SNL always had a variety of the age range of the characters from the actors..

@@jacktrppr1 nah man, I didn't know about Cheri until some weeks ago and I truly believe she was way funnier than most of the girls I've seen on SNL, Cheri is better than Kate playing extroverted characters, but Kate can ve better playing weird or less dramatic ones, in my opinion
I'd say Cecily Strong comes the closest. But Cheri and Gilda will always be my picks.

I never understood why some teen girls acts that way. I remember running across a girl who was acting just like that towards her poor boyfriend. I felt horrible for him and embarrassed for her. I think I even gave him a sympathetic look.

I could be wrong (factually), but this is the first skit I remember with Will and Cheri together playing hormoned-out teenagers. I could also be wrong about this, but these characters seem like a basis for the cheerleaders.
