    • @bertugolu
      @bertugolu 3 года назад

There's a big reason why this happens. The "modern" look that you're seeing is opt in, customized stuff defined by the App, not the OS. When it freezes (as in, the application stops responding to messages being pushed by the OS, such as drag, click for 4 seconds), the OS knows that the application cannot offer the capabilities to the user to do anything, such as exit. Therefore, the OS steps in and renders the default borders which offers OS level capabilities to terminate, rather then application capabilities. Of course, remember that Windows is super backwards compatible, so some stuff, like the default borders and such can NEVER change, like ever. It's up to the application to define the non-default behaviours. When this stops working, the OS just steps in and shows the default behaviour to allow the user to exit a non-response app

those problems are settings that you can adjust. Windows does not just update without warning, you probably got the warning before and simply forgot about it. Windows will go several days after the waring before it forces the issue. Some updates are not avoidable if you have it set to check for updates on its own. Point is, your situation is preventable just by going into the settings and making the proper changes.

I work with Printers and Copiers, mostly HP commercial line and Win10 loves to install the printers on WSD ports which might work for a while then one day it'll just say printers offline or give some other odd message. I swear some machines I setup on IP address ports have later changed back to a WSD port. I'm assuming an update did that & I know other brand printers have been setup on WSD ports as well so don't think it's an HP only thing with W10. I have found in Network sharing center (advanced sharing settings) unchecking the Turn on automatic setup of network devices helps, or so far it has.
I do use control panel as well for everything even changing printer settings, seems like less clicking needed.

Microsoft needs to start from the ground up and build a new version of Windows. Windows is built upon the old Windows NT backbone which is over 20 years old. They just keep modifying the old system and updating it. There's a lot of legacy crap in the background and lots of un necessary services and invisible crap bogging down Windows. They just need to make Windows have only what is needed to run your software running in the background.

Pssst, there is a solution to Windows10 problems, it is being called Linux. Most of your games (probably around 80%) will work without problems. For example, the last two days I played Rise of the Tomb Raider and Hollow Knight without any problem. A 100% flat framerendertime/FPS curve, high enough FPS (1440p very high+ settings for Rise of the Tomb Raider, usually 80-90 FPS, depending on the level and the part). If you need Windows, sure, but you can dual boot from two SSD's and just boot into Windows when you do need it. I don't even have Windows on my desktop anymore, I do have it on a laptop just for factors which are outside my control (education/work).
Timmy, if you ever are interested in trying out Linux I can help you to set it up. You are very much wrong about it not being user-friendly for gaming! Though there are a few small issues but outside gaming Linux is way more user-friendly than Windows10, I have a lot of experience with both.

*My HUGE Pet Peeves about Windows 10...*
*1. Backup...* That they don't have the most BASIC Backup functions to keep files backed up/cloned on different drives and updated, and multi-version controls for those folders you want it on just pisses me off.
*2. Control Panel/New UI Migration...* Like you said, wtf... I get putting a new UI in, which isn't bad, but they actually have MANY functions MISSING from added Settings Functions for different things, so you have to dig for the old control panel to find them cause they aren't actually IN the new UI Settings. For example, they add "File Types"... When you can't even select a LOCAL program to have it be used to open a particular file type, you have to find control panel etc. to find the function. They ONLY allow you to open a file type with a Windows Store App, WTH!!!
*3. Start Menu...* It's better than it was, but they STILL haven't added the ability for when you install programs that it installs the "Main Program" Icon in the Tiles section, you have to move everything over MANUALLY, which is a big pain in the ***... But I agree, the old menu wasn't broken, it was fast and easy to find what you want. I don't mind the changed menu, if they actually made it WORK like the old way, aka fast and easy to use. Though, if I remember right I think one of the Start menu options in 8.1 was like the best. Also, I want to more easy view the "recent used" apps. The current way is kinda crap, and doesn't change, actually showing your most recent on top.
*4. Windows Update...* We ALL don't like this. I have to buy PRO from a cheap reseller for $20 to actually control my Updates again. Even non-technical people should be allowed to control their updates. What's worse is many computers are still using HARD DRIVES as the main drive, the cheap ones, and Windows Update plays absolute HAVOK on those systems. Massive slow bottlenecked systems.
*5. Stuff Running...* That doesn't need to be. Lots of processes/services etc. running that don't actually need to be, many can be activated manually if needed.
Anyway, I think those are the problems that most bug me...
*6. Oh, and wth did they remove Drive Mounting/CD Burning....?*
I get that CD Burning may not be as popular, but you can't Mount an ISO now and it still be mounted when restarting the computer, the Mounting/Viewing aka the Drive is GONE when you restart your computer. Using ISO's isn't just about "viewing/running" the contents, it actually needs to function LIKE a Drive!!!
One other thing.... *Windows Media Player* needs to be UPDATED, not removed.
There is basically NOT ONE other "ALL MEDIA Player/Viewer" out there, believe me, I've searched. At least, that's as clean/nice, easy to view things as WMP.
People don't realize how nice this program is... So, it doesn't need to be removed, it needs updating with a nice modern UI. It's internal display is almost perfect and shouldn't be touched save to improve as needed. One improvement that is needed for sure is for the MUSIC files, the "Name" of the song is "cut off/truncated"... This irritates the heck out of me. I thought there was a fix for it, but cant find it now.
BTW, if anyone has a suggestion on an ALL MEDIA Viewer/Player, I'm all ears....

List of win 10 derps and why I'm using win7 as main while waiting for win10 to reach beta. It's surprising that these things are still missing. Win7 naturally has all of these in perfect working condition. In no particular order:
    1. Start menu pin whatever you want like shortcuts. Copy any of the shortcuts to any place on desktop or in other folders.
    2. Freely reorganize pinned task bar shortcuts - like windows folders within win explorer shortcut on the taskbar.
    3. Recently used folders automatically populate the recent list- like win7 did. As soon as you open a file in a folder X, folder X immediately populates the recent folders on the right click dialog of the windows explorer shortcut.
    4. Simple to disable, never-bother-me-again as long as I don't explicitly tell you otherwise - kind of updates.

Before you think Im just that Linux user thats gonna rage on you for running Windows for your games I suggest you read the howl post.
I have been using Linux for 20+ years, Mostly Gentoo in fact so about as do it all manually as it gets,
So yea Linux is "my windows" kind of OS, Im use to it.
But like most I came from Windows 95/98, W2K all of that.
I also been installing, maintaining, using Windows systems when needed throughout those years.
In 2017 I think I gave up on "wine", basically wine was used to run Windows games or software in Linux, it had DX9 support, at 2017 that was just not good enough for anything remotely new in terms of games.
So I set up a Virtual Machine with "Pass-trough", if your Motherboard and CPU allows it you can let linux dedicate hardware to your Virtual machine.
So I hade a dedicated graphics card with its sound card, usb and network card dedicated to it.
Ran that up until early 2021.
But there are some problems, nvidia intentionally blocks this, you can work around it, AMD didn't block it but they seem to have started so same work around are needed, also newer drivers then 20.4 runs very slow on AMD cards.
So I decided to just try steam for Linux with Proton.
I mentioned wine, proton is Steams own version of Wine but its tuned to offer better support for games.
Nowadays wine/proton offers DX10-12 trough Vulkan.
I installed Linux Mint, then went to the steam website, downloaded the "linux" version, installed it just like you do with your windows version, once Steam was installed I logged in then I went to steam settings and "Steam play" and checked the box "enable steam play for all other titles"
That installs proton, downloads and installs it just like a game.
After that you can install and select play on any windows games.
I did build up a decent library with my 3 years on my Windows 10 gaming VM install.
So fare everything works, it just F-ing works!
So impressive to see how fare gaming has come on Linux in just 3 years!
Now if you ONLY play games and you have no reason to use linux, then by all mean use Windows 10, you can even use it for free, registering it is in fact not illegal not wont stop it from working.
But if your like me, I like to do other stuff to, a lot of it just works better for me under linux, the tools I want is there and gaming is like tha other half of what I do then running a suitable distro like Ubuntu, Mint or something like that with Steam works very well.
In fact the only real problem Im having is with Lutris and my AMD RX5700, lets just say AMD has more bugs and for any serious Linux Graphics oriented machine I would just stick with an Nvidia card, more features, drivers are fast and stable and if you do encoding the Nvec encoder kicks AMD cards so hard in the rear its not even funny, my GTX970 Nvec encoder just beats the vaapi encoder on my RX5700 so hard its not even funny, and you get Cuda on Nvidia cards, useful for blender and AMD dont even Offer OpenCL by default on the Opensoruce drivers.
Yea just pay the extra 20-50USD nvidia tax at the same Tier of card or go down a tier, you will have more fun that way overall.
Now if you DONT have every game on Steam then what do you do in Linux? Well if your like me and have most Mass effect games on Origin then there is a way for that to.
Lutris. Lutris is like a Launcher but with out the store part. It allows you to search for games and install them from other launchers so Origin, Steam, Wargaming, you name it.
You can even install the launchers them self so I just installed origin and I can now just start origin and install the windows games from it and origin once launched from my Linux Mint start menu just integrates in to my taskbar just like in windows and stays up to date to.
Now if you have Steam with Proton installed you can actually link proton to Lutris and set Lutris to use steams Proton version, Im trying that out now because like I sad the linux drivers for my RX5700 is well not the most stable once but there fast so when it works it works very well and there seems to be some stability issues with lutris version of wine and my card/driver, but I have none with Steams proton version of wine.
Also when Steam updates its experimental version of proton lutris gets the same update since they access the same versions, so one update to rule them both!
So fare I can play all my favorite games, Fallout 4, World of Warships, GTA 5, Halo Master Chief Collection, Witcher 3 just not mention a few I have tested.
And installing Linux Mint VS windows 10 is about the same difficulty, installing steam is about the same, enabling windows games on steam is one checkbox klick away, installing Lutris is more work, its basically read a guide, add there PPA (its a link to programs they offer so you Linux systems know about them if you want them isntalled) so you can install Lutris.
But Lutris is nice because you can create shortcuts yor your games or there launchers to your desktop or start menu, game launchers like Origin and Wargamings Game Center will integrate in the bottom right corner in your taskbar just like windows, so your game is updated and ready to go when every you are if thats what you want!
So is gaming on linux as convenient as it is on windows?
Will with ubuntu/Mint or similar distro and Steam I would say there basically the same.
If you have other launchers that you need outside of that Lutris is required and its not difficult to set up for anyone with more then 5 sec attentions but it IS an inconvenience so like I sad if gaming is all you do, Windows is fine and using the OS that fits you needs is what you should do!
One reason to stick with windows is if your gaming involves special Input devices, some joysticks and other input devices has only windows drivers so if your in to fligth sims, VR you might have to make sure there are drivers in linux for those devices and make sure they can do what you need.
I probably heave more machines with windows actually then Linux but all the primary modern systems run Linux because that fits my need.
But anyways Im super happy how smooth my games run under Linux with Steam and now Lutris, Fallout 4 just kicks ass compared to when I tried it on windows even with the same graphics card.
Im also in to retro hardware so Im still using DOS, Windows95, 98, Windows 2000, Vista even on my GTX295 rig!
Im pretty use to dealing with different operating systems, the biggest hurdle when judging if something is actually good or bad for a use case is to actually try it out now, not base once opinions on what other say or once own old experiences.
If I where to use my 2017 experience of playing games on linux I would say its bad because for some years linux gaming was lagging behind way to much.
Im very happy I ditched my Windows 10 pass-trough VM because running windows games in Linux is faster for me and less hazel, its 95% of the time just click install just like in windows.
I was alos thinking of buying a case and stuff to reuse some of my old computer parts to make a dedicated windows gaming machine but in the end that proved unnecessary and saved me hundreds of USD that I could have wasted.
Sometimes just trying stuff out saves you money because you might be surprised how well things might work despite what you have read.
I do wish more company's would release Linux Launchers for thee stores, Like Origin, EPIC, Wargaming etc etc and then use proton or similar wine implementation, that would make it just as easy to install any game on linux as windows.
So It really comes down to support the way I see it.
Something I do really hate about Windows 10 that Timmy Joe didn't mention is that Microsoft insist on you having a Microsoft Account when installing windows, the only current working work around is to make sure the machine has no internet connection during install. This pisses me the hell off.
Okay long rant but I figure someone might find this interesting or might even want to try and make a video about there "experience" XD

I dont get how everyone has all of the problems with win10 .. Ive got, id say a Dozen or so computers all with Win 10-, even some core 2 duos without issue, low ram counts but it still functions .Ive only had One update cause me problems and it was fixed the following day . Trust me, Classic Shell is the way to go. Or just use a Linux Distro . Ubuntu works Great, runs Steam and Games just fine .

I could list more things I hate about other operating systems (ahem....linux) than I can about windows. Windows 10 is simple and does not require much of my time at all. I also don't "modify" the OS to make it do what I think it should like many of the windows bashers do. It works great with stock setting. The only thing I do differently is I dont install all the fluff apps. I only install what I need. Never had any issues at all with windows 10.

Don't get me started on dealing with Windows 10 as a business. I've been fighting the last 2 weeks with the KBxxxx802 and 808 updates that break printing to Kyocera, Ricoh, and other business printers, as well as trying to get Windows 1803 updated. That one fails to update to 1909 due to our companies disk encryption software. So I have to go through the whole process of uninstalling it and then trying to update. 90% of the time it works, the other 10% I have to have them send the laptop to us so we can reformat and reinstall. I had one today that the employee's account got corrupted after the update. It then to make matters even more infuriating, Microsoft released an OPTIONAL update that will fix the printer issues. That means I have to remote into the hundreds of computers we have and install it. I'm hoping that they will make it a mandatory update on Patch Tuesday.

i will say, my brothers wifes laptop which came with windows 8 and was upgraded to windows 10, it's a 4 core 4gb system with a mechanical, should be ok for general use right? right? WRONG, i fixed it once because windows was taking 100% disk usage with not only the windows security BUT updates at the same time, after disabling the windows defender and security built it temporarly, and letting windows take idk 2 hours to actually finish updating finishing up with a long defrag the laptop ran perfectly fine, i get a message from my brother a month later who btw went to collage and stuff for all tech related things, he said "you remember how you fixed that laptop? yeah well it updated and now it won't work again" it's INSANE how much windows just EATS pc's like just ASK before doing it and the fact windows security unless altered just destroys hard drives is insane, like the laptop you will open task manager but it'll take about 10-15mins for it to actually open which is just INSANE and it's purely hard-drive related cus when task manager finally opens everything else is 0% and ram is 1.5gb idle but the HDD is 100% maxed with windows malware exicutable ect ect, windows defender and ofc windows updates just EATING the drive alive all at the same time.... such garbage OS until you spend about a day tinkering it to not do stuff without asking you.

The settings applet ties in directly with the Windows 8 start menu. It's definitely easier to navigate settings with touch than it is the control panel. That was the whole point.
But obviously it's fucking terrible compared to the control panel because the granular controls are non-existent, and half the time, the advanced option just opens control panel anyway. It's basically infuriating to use on a daily basis.

By far the worst feature that started with W-10 is the new way they make you get into Safe Mode! Before, it was just turn on or reboot your computer and hit F8. That was perfect. Now, they have inexplicably turned it into a NINE-STEP PROCESS. Click Start, click Power, hold down Shift, click Restart, click on Advanced, click on Troubleshooting, click on Startup Settings, click Exit, and then when the computer restarts you have to hit 4. Compared to just hitting F8 on W-7. That is the most astonishingly stupid and infuriating change in my opinion.

You need xbox app to connect with ea desktop app to run same time same account but link a ea account to your xbl account.
Also if you install games via the xbox app the game will create a heavy encripted portion on your drive that blocks all changes even a simple 3rd party signn in page will make it freak out and close the game.
if you try to modify anything it will erease/replace the data.

    3. Had an incident where a Forza game was installed but I could not find it in the Apps Management list or Add or Remove Programs menu, had to actually hack a way to fucking WIPE that off my drive, and the folder that held that game? When checked for storage size, showed 0mb.
    2. With all honesty Control Panel FTW, easier way to manage shit. For example you want to open Network Adapter menu directly? You need to click like 10 times to get into shit while on Control Panel, 3 clicks max! And 2021 they are taking the control panel aay, I am quite sure someone will find a way to bring that back.

I agree with most you said, most uf unnecessary annoyances, like how they keep moving stuff around in the Settings,
Ant there are still things only present in the old control panel.
But you missed the most cruical part: NO SOLITAIRE/MINESWEEPER.
Also, it now comes with *THREE* Webbrowsers no one wants to use: Internet Explorer is somehow still there for Compatibility reasons or something, the "Old" Edge, which is still used by default, and the "New" Chromium based Edge.
Getting rid of the Outdated versions, to at least having just one to deal with, requires jumpig though some hoops, just like getting rid of Cortana or the Metro Apps in the Start Menu.

Many of these problems originate from the time when they wanted to create a new XML based UI programming framework called WPF. It was, and still is, so clunky, that you are happy to throw together your app from the UI elements they provide. Just take a look at the Store, it could be one of the basic example projects from the SDK. The transition took so long, meanwhile the world realized XML was a mistake, but Windows is still stuck with it. Oh and it's just a layer on top of the old API with the horrible old COM buried under it. Microsoft is not only losing its users, but also developers (x3).
