Unlike any other fabric, muga silk has a naturally lustrous gold sheen. It comes from the cocoons of muga silkworms, which primarily feed on some trees. A sari made with muga silk can cost $6,500, thousands more than other saris. But the caterpillars needed to make it are in danger of disappearing. So what's happening to the muga silkworm? And why is this silk so expensive?

The silk is OK. Mulberry silk is white and can be dyed in thousands of colors. Not so with Mugabe. You will never get any good pastels. Also it is very stiff. The drape is not very fluid with Muga. It is an interesting fiber. But it is not all that. Those sarees shown in the video are pretty spectacular though. And not too happy to see the moths tied to sticks so that they can lay their eggs in the right place. Lots of cruelty to animals in the production of muga.

Throw your cruelty bullshit out, this process is being followed since thousands of years so the moth lay their eggs in one place and not in the entire area where farmers can't reach and locate, they know months importance that's why they let many of them live and now some butthurt animal lover on internet can't change this tradition.

Its may harm them but it is like protecting those rare species from extinction . Traditionally the muga seeds (larva) used to be found in meghalaya in wild earlier. But the deforestation leads the species to more extinction. By cultivating those species gives a boom to domestic econom y another hand they are protecting them from extinction. Like for protecting the species you cultivate or took special care for them. And the drapping of muga silk seems not be so smoth, but from my childhood i m seing my mother drapping the muga mekhela sador and it is totally fit and fine and fluid also like other silks (pat , nuni), but it needs practice. Also, the dying with multiple colors, the new designs and patterns of work with muga silk can shock you in boutiques. It can dye and pastled with multiple colors , according to your own necessity. And contrasting to to other silks ,those can not be clean with regular washing process but with original muga it is different .you can wash it with regular detergent or regular washing things, it will not destroy(this is the another advantage of muga silk comparative to other silk). every silk or materials have its differnt shine, for instance i cannot demand the lotus silk to shine like golden muga thread or mulbery to silver muga thread shine (megangkori muga, which color is silver and it is more durable than any muga, but today its very rare). So, every item has its own type of beauty and advantage. And again cruelty on animal species happening by us unknowingly everyday, it is concerning and appreciating that we have to raise the question on animal cruelty, but does it means we will avoid the sustanance of some people who are more prone to disadvantaeious situations. Cruelty on animal species happening in daily basis on a large skill by introducing our 5G networks, by installing the new oil or gas rig, by mining coal in mountains. It destructs the biodiversity on continuous basis. We may not directing those actions directly and signaling to the industrialists, politicians etc. But when travelling with our luxury cars, trending bikes with tank ful of petrol, diseal or gas to the name of safar or ride , what about this. Indicating only the marginals who are trying to protect the species one hand and try to reduce their precarity by self sufficiency should have to be our concerns also. I m not saying the process of muga silk making is cool but the beneficial factors can not be underestimate by only one cause. Rather than tagging the title of cruelty we have to encourage in the development of technology which will help to making good muga threads without harming the cocons. And muga is not only part of economy it has been a great part of assamese folklore from time immemorial. So rather then criticizing we have to discuss it with more formulative way. Pls dont mind .
