Oh Starry, your yogurt is soooo good! I have made and enjoyed several batches and ask God to bless you every time! Thank you so much for all your loving heart shares with us. From your Sister in Christ Jesus!
Thank you, sister! God supplied some extra milk, & blessed me to find this video! I'm excited to save my family money, & grateful for your compassionate heart! Praying for you!
I've been making yogurt for a long time but now I make it in a simpler way: mix the warm milk and yogurt in a thermos, shake it and let it sit during the night. In the morning, voilà, homemade yogurt :)
I love referring back to these videos. I know you don't eat dairy anymore, but I still do and I remembered you making homemade yogurt. In these crazy times I'll be making my own tomorrow! Thanks, Starry! 💕💕💕
Loving your videos Starry! These canning videos and the chickens are bringing back wonderful memories of my Grandpa and Uncles on their farms and all us girls in the kitchen with Grandma. We made our own yogurt, butter and soft cheese from our very own milk cows. Bless you for bringing joy to my day!
Lwest Wow sounds like you got some good memories! I love the old folks and how they did t hings..getting back to basics! WE all need to live that way!!
Hi Starry! Thank you a zillion times over for this recipe! it has been so successful for me, I've shared it many times over with family and friends!! BTW, this DOES work with GREEK yogurt...somehow I missed that you said that the first time, so when shopping for my yogurt in the store, I purchased the Honey GREEK GODS brand, specifically because it had 7 beneficial live and active cultures...and it worked fabulously! The cupful I set aside from my own batch made from it also continues to work great as my starter. Just thought I'd let you know, because the higher number of active cultures the better, I would assume!
Starry, I made the yogurt and it is soooooo good! So easy! I am in the process of making my second batch. You are my new favorite person on RUclips. Thank you so much for showing us how to make this. It tastes so good, I will never buy store bought again! So excited to make more. I serve it with organic sliced peaches and L.R. Rice raw & unfiltered honey drizzled over top.

subscribe to her channel. in fact she have accident last Saturday. and the community is praying for her and watching her videos and reruns in support of her channel.
I've been making yogurt this way for years! Love it. I use a 1 gallon ice tea jar and make a whole gallon at a time using 1 container of yogurt as a start so mine takes 24 hours to thicken in a cooler to contain the warmth. I wonder though... I have always used greek yogurt... why did you say not to? When I used regular yogurt I ended up with a much thinner end result.
Great method! I use hot water-filled cooler to hold jars at correct temperature (110°-120°) for 4 or 5 hours. Before filling cooler with hot tap water, I fill and cap quart jars with boiling water to sanitize. These jars are used to place in coolers to displace the exact right amount of water so eventually the yogurt-filled jars will be in the warm-water bath at about the 3/4 height. Then I inoculate all four quarts while milk is still in the pot as it cools to 120°, with one cup of yogurt and a couple tablespoons of vanilla extract. Then I empty water out of quart jars - fill up quart jars with inoculated milk, and place the jars in cooler with 120° water. It holds the temperature for 4 or 5 hours, while it sets, after which I let cool for a couple of hours on counter. Then refrigerate. It keeps for 4-5 weeks in fridge.
Thank you. I love your channel. You inspire me to try all the things I've always wanted to...and even some that I never thought I could. (like butchering my own chicken) :O God bless.
Thank you so much. My son goes through tons of yogurt and it's so expensive. I wanted to ask you where your from Starry. I love your accent. I've noticed when most people say right you say "ret" and you say "steer" instead of stir. It's charming. LOL... I love your kitchen. So homey :) Many blessings to you and hubby.
She Wolf ha ha oh so funny! i never noticed!!! I said Oregon today at work and my co worker asked me to say it again..she laughed..she said I was saying it wrong..guess I say it OreGAN and its OreGON. We are from Wisconsin..and everyone here says they can tell to!! Glad you think its charming!!! God Bless you..that made me smile!!:))
this is SOOOOO delicious and i can't believe I made it! btw, @ 4 hrs mine didn't have any tang at all, @ 7.5 hrs it did - both times it seemed to be about equally set up. so the longer you let it go, the more bitter it gets.
Starry Hilder - starry!!!! i didn't expect to see you, my goodness i thought you were still recuperating. i've been praying for you, girl. best wishes to you and mr hilder! Hello I found your channel a little over a week a go. I have watched almost half of your videos. I could not wait to try this out and was able to the other day. The yogurt was very good. I checked it at about 4.5 hours and it was set. I also learned you can set the yogurt up in a cheese cloth or 100% cotton cloth and drain out most of the whey which makes the yogurt thicker and creamier. I went blackberry pickin with my son the other day and we have been mixin them in the yogurt it was so much better the the stuff you would buy at the store. Anyways I have learned a lot from the videos and think it is great that your husband is so supportive of what you are doin and will even be the camera man or be filmed doin demonstrations for your videos. Last thing for now but not lest. I really enjoy how you are just keeping it real with what you guys are doing and love how you have your passages and what not threw out and at the end of your videos. I think my brother and myself are goin to be trying the Garden of Eden in some of your gardens. He has a really beautiful aquaponics garden where his fish make nitrates and then nitrites and feed his plants. Well I have to go for now nice channel and keep up the great work God Bless You All
Jeff Cook WEll welcome to our channel and so glad you found us! We are no frills very real no hype here!! Just turning on the camera when I think of something I can share!!! Im glad the yogurt tu rned out well. I usually dont get any whey but the cheesecloth idea is awesome! Mae sure to keep that whey to..its good for us!! The Back To Eden method has saved us...and with the high temps and no rain we are blessed to be doing s well. Glad you are here and God Bless!!
Starry Hilder Good mornin guys. I will have to say I didn't get very much whey either and the yogurt at the bottom of my canning jar was thicker then that at the top. But there was a big difference in the thickness before and after drain out what there was and then adding the Black Berries. So yeah I keep the whey as I understand there is a lot of protein and what not in it. I am goin to be makin some bread in the next few days and will use what I have in replacement of the water. Well anyways thanks again for the best yogurt ever.
WOW it really worked :) Thanks for sharing Starry. I am not a big yogurt eater but trying to eat more. Well, when I can make it myself, I'm in. Tastes great as well!
you can also use your dehydrator to keep it warm. I put them in small jars after I mixed it up and set the dial for 110. It makes the best yogurt I've ever had!!
Thanks Starry, this was a good simple, few steps way to make yogurt. I have been watching quite a few videos on this, but I wrote down YOUR method to do it. Now I just need a clip on thermometer! lol
Hi,I just found this video.Thank you soo much for teaching how to make yogurt from milk.I buy a lot of yogurt and it adds up.I will do this from now on.I'm soo excited now to know this.Glad you still have past helpful video's still on your great channel.Be well you and sweet Mario.Hope Sprig is doing well also with Mr.H.on the mountain.Guess he could use him as a companion. ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡.........

your yogurt is so good that friends keep asking me to make it for them hahaha. they don't believe how easy and cheap it is to make. my husband loves when I put a half a teaspoon of my strawberry preserve in it.
Thank you for the yogurt recipe it's so simple, I think I can add strawberries and or blueberries to it also. I've always loved yogurt and can't stand all the sugar they put in it. I'll try this soon.
Thank you this was the most simple and practical way I have seen and a great way to start thank you can't wait to try it!! Maybe you can share your granola recipe is it home made?
Billie Hanson Im glad you liked it..and its FAIL proof. I made some more just the other day and again perfect...now my husband ate the whole jar!!! I will get the camera ready when I do the granola probably this fall!!
WOW, #StarryHilder, I sooo look forward to making this. I will be saving a lot of money, YEAH!! Thanks so much. My hubby will be thrilled!! When we get goats in a yr, I will have to find your video on how to make it with goat milk, when they start having babies.
at first I was a bit "squeamish" after seeng the dog ate from the spoon, but now why would I be squeamish? this dog is surely eating healthy and clean food. good video about diy yoghurt making. God bless you!
I made it! Great turn out as well. So yummy. Thank you for giving us this lovely recipe and skill. Wondering if you have a granola recipe you can make a video about.
Chief and Prepper YIPPEEE you wait..its addicting too! You will never go back to store bought!!! My husband eats a jar every couple days!!! In the fall when we start having a fire in the house wit the wood stove I will do the granola video!! So glad the yogurt turned out good!!
Just made this yogurt and it is so good. Thanks for sharing. Have a question though, my yogurt tastes great but it doesn't have the tang associated with yogurt
Cooking with Sonya go for it...make sure it has active cultures...been warm outside so should be able to put it out after you heat and cool it...be ready in about 4-5 hours..thick...lovely..smoothhhhh
To make Greek yogurt, strain plain yogurt. I use a coffee filter. Keep the whey -- the liquid -- to start your next batch of yogurt. The whey is full of yogurt bacteria and will start yogurt as easily as yogurt itself. A word of caution: I have had problems making yogurt when I switched brands of milk. Using the whey from one brand to start yogurt on a different brand results in 'broken' yogurt -- yogurt floating on a pool of whey.
thank you...great to know! would I save the same amount as I do from the yogurt? Currently I do one gallon of milk at a time, which yields me two large quarts of Greek and a one cup starter portion to set aside for the next time...
I have been making yogurt since I was 11 now I am 44 still turn a gallon of milk into yogurt a week. I never had measurements. When my mother taught me it went like this make sure you have two clean pots, bring the milk to a boil, then pour the milk into a clean pots check the milk in about 30 minutes if you can put your pinky finger in and not burn yourself it's time to add the start ( yogurt from last week's batch) stir place lid cover with two old bath towels, refrigerat in the morning ( taste better cold ) lol that is how I have taught my kids now I have actual measurements.
Esther Johnson I know its so ymummmy and n ot sour! I hate store bought n ow that I make my own!! And store bought is so expensive its a crime what they charge!
Great, clear and positive video! I have a question, I have heard yogurt can be made also without heating, have you tried that? What happens if you don't heat the milk up to 180 degrees first?
karen evans....i cant respond directly to your post....but yes just refrigerate as normal! and dont forget to save some for starter for your next batch!
Starry, do you just use 2 Tbsp. from the new homemade yogurt to place as the starter for another new batch of yogurt? We do it the same as you did with the batch you made?
I have a couple of questions about this. First, why would you need to kill bacteria in milk that has already been pasteurized? Aren't you just killing off good bacteria or helpful enzymes? Next, I love the idea of getting cheaper commercial yogurt to start but how do you know if it has all of the same strains or as many as a starter bought separately? Lastly, do you know what would make yogurt come out slimy if you were using raw milk? Thank you for making this video as it is brilliant.
Starry, I am wondering how you keep your milk, eggs, yogurt, etc, cool. Do you run a small refrigerator on solar? I know you're not a fan of freezers. Thanks!
What I do is make two bottles of water hot and cover them. I warm the whole milk and cream (yogurt LOVES cream and you will have a much nicer finished product). Add a teaspoon of yogurt; mix, cover, and put into a tiny cooler with a hot water bottle on each side. Within 24 hours or less, you have a nice thick yogurt.
Why don't you have a segment on your homestead called "Starry's Off Grid Kitchen"? Then you could do a lot of videos on the different kinds of cooking that you do? Personally, I would LOVE to see more of your healthy meals videos.
I was wondering the very same thing . I normally stay a away from dairy as I have had issues with it in the past ,but wondering if this could be done with similar results with Almond Milk , Soy Milk, Cashew Milk ? I miss Yogurt and boy does this look delicious !
Oh Starry, your yogurt is soooo good! I have made and enjoyed several batches and ask God to bless you every time! Thank you so much for all your loving heart shares with us. From your Sister in Christ Jesus!

Eggplant Aubergine that's a good idea for the 110° long period.... thermos... hummmmm. Would large plastic thermos work. Usually used for water.

Great video! You are a wonderful teacher.
Just made this yogurt and it is so good. Thanks for sharing. Have a question though, my yogurt tastes great but it doesn't have the tang associated with yogurt
Thank you Starry. Bless u guys.
During the winter I put mine in a ice chest with hot water for a while and it firms it up. :)
wow, that looks great, I am going to have to try this, thanks
Dreamingofland TRY it you'll love it!!
I love your channel ☺️ I make my own yogurt out of coconut because I'm lactose
LOVE this..thank you! I am going to head to the store to buy the milk and yogurt :)
Cooking with Sonya go for it...make sure it has active cultures...been warm outside so should be able to put it out after you heat and cool it...be ready in about 4-5 hours..thick...lovely..smoothhhhh
I use a mesophilic yogurt culture, it is awesome because it cultures on the counter = no yogurt maker great for when SHTF
Using the whey from one brand to start yogurt on a different brand results in 'broken' yogurt -- yogurt floating on a pool of whey.
ty 4 the great info.
thank you...great to know! would I save the same amount as I do from the yogurt? Currently I do one gallon of milk at a time, which yields me two large quarts of Greek and a one cup starter portion to set aside for the next time...
h lynn keith , so I use the coffee filter before I set it out to thicken or after its thickened? can I add flavors ( vanilla) if so when? Thank YOU
I add my vanilla when I add the live bacteria.
Lynn Keith not answering. :-(
I so wish I could get raw milk here in MD. I love making cheese. Thank you for the video!!!
Thanks for the info. I think I can do that only one quart at a time. This is a good skill to know.
MJ_Preparer Namaste Yes and its so so easy!!! Good luck have fun!!
I like homemade yogurt waaay better than store bought.. Its not as sour.. Its delicious. Plus we go through a gallon of yogurt a week! Thank you
Esther Johnson I know its so ymummmy and n ot sour! I hate store bought n ow that I make my own!! And store bought is so expensive its a crime what they charge!
just shared this, and ordered my quart jars...
Is it the same process if you do use raw milk?
Trying this today! Thank you!
Great, clear and positive video! I have a question, I have heard yogurt can be made also without heating, have you tried that? What happens if you don't heat the milk up to 180 degrees first?
This is great. Thank you for sharing. Favorite.
Excellent information.
thank you....that's all....simply thank you.
Great recipe, thanks so much for sharing. :)

i always forget to save some for my next batch because my son gets to it when i'm not home . lolol boys will be boys , gotta love um !!!
Starry Hilder Off Grid Homestead is it 180 degrees f or c
Starry, do you just use 2 Tbsp. from the new homemade yogurt to place as the starter for another new batch of yogurt? We do it the same as you did with the batch you made?
Starry Hilder do you keep 2 table spoon of the fresh yogurt per quart for the next batch
Starry Hilder
I Love this! Thanks for this. God bless. :)

Billy Branch Homestead Blessings its very easy!
Just subbed! Love your videos! God bless
WELCOME!!!
This is fantastic! Its is 105 degrees outside today, Too hot to put them outside? I want to do this so badly! :D
What makes yogurt slimy is simply milk that didn't culture properly
Yaaay! Thank you for aharing!!!!
I usually put mine in an ice chest with the warm water, (small ice chest).
Starry, I am wondering how you keep your milk, eggs, yogurt, etc, cool. Do you run a small refrigerator on solar? I know you're not a fan of freezers. Thanks!
We have a 2k array!!
So you run a refrigerator on it? What would you do if the SHTF?
This is a good topic. You should do a video on it!
+Starry Hilder what's a 2 k array?
Jeannine Timp I assume she means a solid panel array that puts out 2000 watts
What I do is make two bottles of water hot and cover them. I warm the whole milk and cream (yogurt LOVES cream and you will have a much nicer finished product). Add a teaspoon of yogurt; mix, cover, and put into a tiny cooler with a hot water bottle on each side. Within 24 hours or less, you have a nice thick yogurt.
Why don't you have a segment on your homestead called "Starry's Off Grid Kitchen"? Then you could do a lot of videos on the different kinds of cooking that you do? Personally, I would LOVE to see more of your healthy meals videos.
Thank you for sharing., I'm going to make yogurt
Greetings!! ♡ Can I use any kind of milk/dairy? ? i.e. could I use almond milk to make the yogurt???
I was wondering the very same thing . I normally stay a away from dairy as I have had issues with it in the past ,but wondering if this could be done with similar results with Almond Milk , Soy Milk, Cashew Milk ? I miss Yogurt and boy does this look delicious !
Perfect! Thank you.
You mentioned about using regular yogurt over Greek yogurt as a starter. Why won't Greek work? Does it have something to do with whey?
