I own a c3 and think lego did a very good job transferring it to the blocky lego medium. Just think the roof should have been 2 removable curved tiles since it’s a t-top car, and they should have included a pop up headlight feature as that’s a iconic part of older Corvettes.
Corvette and lego enthusiast here. I personally will definitely buy this set. It is simply brilliant! 2 full cars for the price of 1½ (but significantly more in europe)? Now that's a deal, and it's celebratory of the corvette's whole theme! (Much cheaper than the competition in america but quite expensive in europe). Now to the builds. I personally love both cars, but only because I love the real life counterparts. The corvette c8.r's front isn't made properly. The spokes that go up from the front splitter should be at a 45° angle but they're at 90 degrees on the lego version. The headlights desparately need to be made from real bricks (pretty hard to do but it's possible- I made it myself). The side air intake isn't didn't get enough attention (I personally replicated it on one of my mocs without it being fragile). The whole rear could've been sculpted better and not just use stickers. Now to the c3. Because it's simple there aren't many things wrong with it, but I got so upset with the little things that I made it myself. The front, while made pretty well, could've been sharper (that goes for the c8.r as well). The part over the rear wheels should've had more of a bulge. I personally would've prefered one of the later models (like the 1969 L88 for example) with side exhausts. Btw, yes the stingray wasn't introduced until 1969 and went until 1976.
As a nut about classic corvettes. I can say that I'm genuinely impressed by the 68. When I first saw the image on Google, I thought it wasn't right. But here, it looks a lot better closer up. I agree with other commenters, one issue is the roof being a little wide at the top. Sadly, no parts that lego has will accommodate the correct shape, so I can live with it I *really* wish they could've found a way to angle the rear end slightly. That would produce a better shape, the hump over the wheel, and the sloped taillight panel that was so characteristic of these cars.
As a casual car fan, these look like some of the best Speed Champion models they've done. Some of the more minute shaping is definitely a challenge with bricks, which would stick out more to bigger car fans.
Just got this set from a friend for Christmas. I thought the corvettes were awesome renditions and had fun building them while everyone exchanged gifts. Couple of missing pieces but I managed
More than 500,000 models of the C3 were sold! There was also different engine options like 427, L88 and more. The C3 Corvette was based on the 65' Corvette Mako Shark ii Concept car. Later redesigned into Manta Ray in 69'. The reason why the C3 went from 1968 to 1983 was because Chevy was gonna build the C4 as a mid engine car in the 1970s. Although, they were unsuccessful. So they decided to keep the C3 production going. But with a few changes. This is how the 'Stingray' disappeared. But it was brought back in 2014.
I have this kit and it's, without any doubt, the best LEGO set I've ever bought. In fact, I have 4 cars in the Speed Champions lineup and they look about 99 percent accurate to the real cars that only the rich and hardcore collectors could even afford
I will definitely buy this set, primarily because of the C8.R. I love that car and I'll buy it because of it. I will definitely do a few modifications to make the car look as realistic as possible.
Yet I see and here a lot on how the 68 is very unrealistic... personally I agree with you too. 68 actually looks decent. The C8 is the one I'm having problems with, mainly around the front end. Luckily, I just got the set, so when I do build it, I will try modify it to hopfully make more accurate. I'm almost certain I could do a better job. I guess I'll find out.
The setting with a classic Corvette in a racetrack with the C8Rs reminds me of that one scene in cars 3 where all these new cars came in and zoom pass lighting McQueen Also the C8R is my more favorite of the 2 in this set
No matter what instance of a given model Lego re-creates they tend to use the first year that specific design was made for the C3 that would’ve been 1968 but the classic cursive stingray is just so iconic they would’ve had to put it on
When I first saw this in store I thought it was a 67 Stingray. Nice of them to include the "Stingray" door badge if someone wanted to make a proper Corvette of it.
A set I will definitly get, I'm so pump up by it ! The Corvette C8R in the exact livery and color scheme will soon be available in Hotwheels 2021 Mainline (which I collect since 2009), first we had the yellow livery then will come (K-Case) the grey one ! The 68 is also very excitig to me !
Ok. So: C3 has a very cool color and quite interesting technique for building rear lamps. C8. R is also great, only those front wheel arches could be like in Koenigsegg, and the rear spoiler could be higher. Overall, the set rating in my opinion is 9/10.
i would say no, the accuracy of this 68 is not true completely. the 69 is the only year they introduce the "stingray" badge to the corvette. and they discontinued it in 1980 until it was reintroduced in 2014 with the C7, but i might be wrong with the discontinuation of the badge
Thank you so much for reviewing this set! Just wanted to let you know I'm a huge fan of your channel as well! However, these sets are kind of a letdown. Like you said in the review, they just don't look that great. It seems to me like Lego just isn't able to capture the look of the corvette in lego form. The old speed champions Corvette isn't my favorite, the Technic one looks odd, and these are just... I don't know. I don't hate them, they look ok, but not as great as I wanted them to. I'll probably still buy them though, I have every lego corvette so far.
I really want them to make a creator expert scale c3 because there’s only so much of the curves and edges you can get in such a small scale. I think a creator expert scale one would look a lot better but I’m still going to buy this.

From the front, the C3 looks very good. Cut the roof and the rear end look a bit wrong. In the original, the back is more curvy. But well, maybe it wasnt possible better.
After hearing about Lego making a Speed Champions set based off of the C8.R, I was pretty hyped. I'm a big fan of the C8 Corvette and I wanted to see what Lego would do with it. But to me this set doesn't live up the the actual real life car at all. I have seen many MOCs that look way better than the one Lego did, and with zero stickers. I'll still probably get this set but I just don't think it's as good as it could have been.
@@dodgerfloof7424 anyway, why does every lego person say "MOCS ARE BETTER LEGO OFFICIAL SETS ARE TRASH MOCS LOOK NICER WITH NO STICKERS" kind of like you. even with legal techniques, it would still be too fragile.
Thanks for the review. I don't know if you know or not, but I'm trying to find out of the 512 pieces, how many make up the 1968 Corvette and how many for the CR.8. Would love to know - if you know. Don't think that anyone did a separate inventory so far, at least it's not on rebrickable. If you really want to know the most straightforward way is to go through the building instructions and count/mark the parts for the 2 vehicles.
If you need a almost perfect 68 corvette check out brickvault they have a 3 muscle car set of instructions which are all amazing! P.S. just so you know im not a huge car guy so I don’t know mush about the corvette so excuse me if I mess up the name and it’s a stingray
Why is it always Classic Chevy vs Modern Chevy? Granted, we have a Classic Ford vs Modern Ford set, but we have more Classic Chevy vs Modern Chevy sets than anything.
I'm glad Lego has finally begun putting details like engines and gearshifts into Speed Champions sets
I’m glad they the wheels larger so they’re more proportional
Agreed
"engines"?
@@labounti The lego c8 corvette has an engine in the back of it
@@hinkleprincess I know this. What I didn't know was it has visible engine details. I've never built the set..
The 68 Corvette looks awesome. Just wish it was in bronze/gold color to park at the base of the Saturn V
I would've prefer the mainly yellow with a touch of grey one
I was building this last week and apollo 13 was on TV, the scene where Gary senise watches the launch sat by his corvette...
For the low price i think this set is pretty decent

I'm getting this set for the C8. I simply love how the car looks, even if it's not that true next to the real thing.
One day lego will figure out how to line up the steering wheel to the driver. One day.
They did it with the Bronco
I mean they did with the Elva, so they are on their way at least
