In these days of low combine losses, and corn breeding that focuses on the ear rather than the stalk, it doesn’t seem like there’s much left for the cows from afar. Then look at the condition of the cows, after being on the cornstalks for a month. Filled out, strong, ready for calving. The Sonnes know how to manage their herd. Just look! 👍
Project Idea!!! Some late fall after harvest/before calving, go through your home barn, Cole, and create some open concept-ish calving barn layout. Fill in the concrete where you need to to be able to use the skiddy over all of it, re-enforce the structure, refurbished gate for your skiddy, turn those feed pens at the back into calving pens, etc...
Loved hearing the history of the older structures and why they are better than the newer ones! Although, along with that those new lights are great. Brian, I would have taken the number 13 just because I like Halloween. I love Brians humor and you understanding most of it, it would seem. The cold is coming, and this is where you guys show your toughness! I think Brian raised you right. 😉
Another great Sonne teamwork video. As I have watched these over the years, it is amazing the knowledge Brian is passing on to Cole based of his years of experience and the planning and forethought that comes from these ( prepping barn for calving having experienced storms in the past, determining when to buy hay with drought situations or when to sell cattle, etc). This cannot be learned from books and Cole is so fortunate to have such an amazing mentor and father. Wishing you all the best during calving season.
I can almost smell the vintage aroma! Even the wood has a unique feel to it after all those years of touching, rubbing. Ah, nostalgia. Even better when it's still functional! Here's hoping we get to see it in use this winter.
I realise that any cattle that don’t comply go for a ride to town but you have a nice line of cattle, all the same I like that. And the right colour too. And when you are trying to get them out of the bush they don’t call them cows for nothing 🫣 You should thank your lucky stars you don’t have hills. They always go to the top back corner without fail especially the calves. You know the one that can’t see the open gate its mother just went through!!!! Regards from Tasmania Australia
There is nothing in this world like an old wood barn. 5+8=13 but 8-5=3 and 5-8=-3. This could go on, the point is how you look at something like the tractor going this way and it also goes that way. Watching you guys move some really good lookin’ beevos while picking out another batch of good ol Oklahoma pecans for the freezer. I like this member thang goin’ on. Weather folks saying we might get some snow later this week too. I hope so. We need some frozen stuff on the ground. But they don’t know. Thanks for sharing your hard work. Thanks for feeding people. Storla Station
Great job fellers, another gem from Sonne frames🤣haven’t heard that in awhile so I thought I’d throw it out there. Oh and don’t forget claves…lol. Y’all stay safe and sound and God Bless us all in 2024🇺🇸💪🏻🇺🇸
Jobs well done! I always felt better backing the skidsteer on the trailer..I knew it couldn't roll over the bucket! You fellas smartly have all the right tools to do every job, whether it be shopwork or gathering cattle in the open spaces. Enjoying your videos from SW Wisc
I think everyone is pretty happy with the warmer temps during this season, but mostly us farmers. Tight squeeze in the old barn, but you gotter done, good thing your uncle Jeff had that smaller skid loader. Yeah we got some snow too, hopefully it's not too bad for ya! Thanks for sharing, hope your weekend goes good!
Thanks Guys definitely a couple good laughs in this Video just never know where the tractors are going. Shop lights are nice work bench lights will still help keep shadows away when working at bench.
My Great-grand father had a farm in Dakota Territory/South Dakota. He had two barns, one for cattle, one for sheep during the winter. He placed chickens in the hay lofts which kept the sheep and cattle calm. I never asked my grandparents, why the chicken kept the animals calm, I knew, WHY.
Got many hours in a skid steer Cole, if you back up the ramps it’s way easier, than going forward you won’t pop a wheelie. You can turn skid steer around facing forward once your on your deck no problem. Cool videos!!
Brian, We call the Stalls in the back of your Barn, Box Stalls and the tall small boxes in the corners of the Box Stall are for small grain to feed those critters with the long faces. You know the ones Cole says " hey why the long face." Around here we have Cowboy's riding Horses or the other group Gasoline Cowboy's riding Four- Wheelers.!!! , Great Barn and thanks for the Tour .
Were getting 2 1/2 inches of snow after being green all through the Christmas and new years season and its still coming down here in BC 🇨🇦 loving it but we're in a small town... loving your video's love the new lights god bless Sonne Farms 🙏
Bryan What you said was a feeder for the cattle appears to be the manger at the front of a horse stall Probably are holes in the top plank for tying them also
This weather has not been the typical winter for sure. I'm in west central Minnesota & they had a piece on the news that showed some people fishing in their boats on the lake & even some people water skiing here in Minnesota in December for crying out loud. However it is actually snowing now as I write this.
If your ever afraid to back down a skid steer because of front end being to light you can use your skid steer skills and do a 180 on the trailer. Works wonders
Farmer P in the UK has a love affair going with his Mustang skid steer. puts it on two wheels as needs be. Right now he is deliberating how to upgrade to LED lights.
Shop lights are fantastic 👍😁 🎉HAPPY NEW COLE, BRIAN, JEFF & Families...🥂🍾🎊 GBY ALL with Peace, Good Health & Happiness throughout the New Year 2024 🤗✝️🎊
The Pacific storm is already ashore up north, it'll arrive here on the Central Coast before midnight. It's a fast mover, marching across America, gonna give snow to Northern New Mexico (folks in Albuquerque are being warned, many don't have a clue how to drive in snow.)
I love Ellie. She is the bomb, thanks for including her in your video. Cole, I feel the same way about snow, yuck. I do hear farmers like the precip. Brian is right about his number but he's in the big time now, love it.
You guys amaze me with all your talent for doing so many projects to make your operation better and then you hire a electrican to install some lighting in the work area. I guess Brain doesn't like easy jobs.
Thanks for another great video. It was interesting. The little skid loader fit in the old barn just right. Good to get it cleaned out before winter and caving. Looked good with fresh bedding. Enjoyed hearing about the old barn from Brian. History on old barns is so interesting. Good job done while the weather was good. You did great rounding up all of your cows. Thought originally you were doing half but went so e well, you decided to round them all up. Appreciate the way you handle your herd of cows. You both are excellent herdsmen. You take it easy with them and easy does it. Works great. You and dad had a busy day. Nice the weather is holding. Thanks for everything Sonne’s. Take care and be safe. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
That is the reason you will be happy you chose that size mini-excavator. One of these days you'll need to get it into a really small area and when you find that "magic number" on the tape, you'll be saying it fits! when you take the measurement. It may be tomorrow, it may be next year. Eventually your going to need it.
That old barn needs renovations to help you handle beef cows and calves so you can use the whole thing! And yes I know it takes time and money! Keep up the great work guys!
Great video from balmy SD. Some of those cows are almost too wide for the chute. When are you going to get those bug-eyed sunglasses on your merch page?
8:30 "that is bright" - yes the new lights are brighter than expected, and use a lot less electric. Win win. You might be able to put a dimmer on it rather than an on/off switch, check the specs of the light.
So great to see you in your dad working together. Y'all have such a good time. A fun time God bless me. May you get some snow soon cause you need the moisture in the ground
Great video guys! 🐃❤🐃 Weatherman says we are about to get hit with an artic blast and I'm 2 states south of you, so I'm sure you guys will be in the deep freeze. The old barn looks warm and great for the cows! Love the new lights. ❤
I see you two and your farm is still going strong - that's good - hope and pray that your preparing for this coming summer considering this how this winter is so far? 🙏😕🙂
I designed a couple different net warp cutter tools using a standard utility blade and placed them on Thingiverse for printing. Asking ranchers to print one off and try to break it. Thanks for sharing, Brian and Cole.
love the song of the day today , love that old barn , and as you said the roof is so much better in the old sheds for condensation , good you have the extra bit too if weather is really bad with calving
Ever think about picking up an older cattle trailer to pull with one of ur semi tractors?? Seems like it would speed up moving those cattle, as much as you guys have to move them around.???
@@briansonne814 true story. .but I'd bet you'ld use it more than you think after those cows load & unload a few times, you just open the door & they run on...just a thought...but you know best
Thanks!
very kind of you!
thank you!
Love hanging out with you guys. What an awesome year of content! Way better than anything on TV!
In these days of low combine losses, and corn breeding that focuses on the ear rather than the stalk, it doesn’t seem like there’s much left for the cows from afar. I love the way you move your cows so quietly! It keeps them from having such a cortisol rush. So much better for the claves!
Cole, the jammin biker dude was just heading to Sturgis to get a jump on everybody else. Wishing y'all plenty of rain this year.
Loved the old barn tour, awesome that you guys still find a use for it, stay safe
Cole, you are a great Son! “You are going to hurt your back!” Brian’s camera work and comments are always timely and often funny!
“Run away bale”. Love this episode and your new lights are a BIG improvement…….huge!
Hey Cole it would be super cool if you could do a tour of all of your outbuildings barns/ shops/ old abandoned houses etc.
Anyone know why there wasn’t a video on Monday?

You two always find some to say that makes me smile or laugh. Look forward to all the Corny sayings.

Great description of the old barn Brian. Glad yall are having a warmer winter so far.

i appreciate this
And Brian's giving Cole old school terminology like Pucker Scale LOL 😅
I never miss any of your videos. I think a big part of why I like your videos so much is the love and respect you give each other. ❤
Thank you so much 😊
Intriguing old barn. I'm glad you can still utilize it. Reminds me of our heifer barn.
I can almost smell the vintage aroma! Even the wood has a unique feel to it after all those years of touching, rubbing. Ah, nostalgia. Even better when it's still functional! Here's hoping we get to see it in use this winter.
Thank you Cole and Dad Brian for sharing everything.God bless you and your family.
That old barn is bigger and way cooler than I realized! I would so clean it out and rework it to being functional for you.
Great job catching your cows and moving them home Brian and Cole
Tractor traveling direction a very important point to ponder !!

Thank you Sonne farms!!
Ya know what this channel needs? An Ellie-cam! A day in the life of a top notch cattle shepherd. 🐶
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO COLE AND BRIAN 😊
And the workshop said, let there be light. And there was light, and it was good. 👍
And to make a winter motorcycle ride better, you just gotta have Huey Lewis and the News blasting! 🤣

I remember, back when skid steers first came out, they did not have any rops on them. I am surprised that we all didn't get hurt operating them.
Great video again. Goood looking cattle.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great job getting the cattle in. The sunset was amazing good filming.
“Sonne frames Self unwinding cornstalk bales” the new hit of the farm show circuit! Get yours today.
Thanks for the video.
My favorite comedy team. You guys are great.

Beautiful blue skies! You are blessed to work outdoors under that wonderful blue sky. Great video!

Cleaning out that trailer looks like the cattle got into the AG1 drink!
You are smart to get as much work done as possible when the weather is decent. Take Care and Be safe on the farm. Out
Its Saturday 1-6-24 and its dumping the snow down in Six Mile Run,PA
we are getting really cold next week!
Really good cattle men, farm and video. Right on target and a great way to start the year.

For those dull knives? Get yourself a Lansky sharpening kit. You can go from butter cutter to surgical knife in short order.

Your content is always interesting. Thank-you. ❤🎉
thanks!
Those light in your shed is a huge difference. You will still want the lights above work bench to cut down on shadows.
Great video as always
Good show today, I'm glad it wasn't too cold ! 👍

It is moisture. We have some snow that may stay for awhile here in Humboldt Saskatchewan. Winter has finally arrived.

You could play "Shave and a haircut" with those shovels cleaning out the manure in the stock trailer. 😂
I love Ellie. She is the bomb, thanks for including her in your video. Cole, I feel the same way about snow, yuck. I do hear farmers like the precip. Brian is right about his number but he's in the big time now, love it.

I upgraded my shop and garage to LED a while back and absolutely love it!!
