The Fair of Santa Fe de Veraguas: Visiting an agricultural Fair in Panama

Welcome to My Little Tropical Farm. We are homesteading on this small finca (farm) in Panama. This week we visit the fair in Santa Fe. It really gives you a feel of the culture of this small mountain town in the Province of Veraguas.

So here is my latest question🤔…why are the cows (in the road) so skinny? There seems to be a lot of pasture for them. Our cattle (Holsteins) never had their ribs showing like that. Any idea?

Samm, I can't say for sure but I don't think they are well fed. From what I see his pastures are very weedy not full of lush grass like many of the others. Some farmers feed a type of feed that is not nutrient dense (something I would never give my animals) and I think he relies on that during the dry season. He had a bunch of hay and seems to have sold it off instead of saving it for his animals. I don't understand it and complain to my friends daily but that is all I can do.
