    How did Red make out with the vet? How is her eye?

    • @Mylittletropicalfarm
      @Mylittletropicalfarm 11 дней назад

      Not great. The vet came and didn't have an answer - which is unusual for this vet, he is very good and has sheep of his own. He consulted with another vet that specializes in sheep and I still didn't get an answer. He recommended an injectable for three days to get rid of the maggots that had gotten in her ears and that worked for the maggots but we are now trying something new (that I got from the US) for her rash and now wounds in her ears - I just can't really spray it around her eyes so it isn't going to solve the problem fully. It does seem to be helping but like I said I don't think it will help her fully. If I can get her ears healed I have another idea for her eyes but trying anything around her eyes will be hard. Sorry for the long answer!

    Hi Nanci, Looks great! I have two questions. How often do you run into snakes when out doing chores? I am terrified of them. Seeing you walk thru the grassy areas has me holding my breath til you get “back to safety”,lol. Also, when you talk about the animals and how you will cull the boys to one rooster/duck/sheep, doesn’t that cause inbreeding if that male then mates with his sisters/mother? Or is that not a concern with the animals? Is one of the new mama sheep the mother of the boy that got them all pregnant?

    • @Mylittletropicalfarm
      @Mylittletropicalfarm 22 дня назад

      Good questions!! I don't see snakes often but try to keep the grass under control so they don't have many places to hide. It is a balance of keeping it long enough for the sheep but short enough to not be surprised by a snake. The last time I saw a venomous snake (fer de lance) it was in with the ducks and while I went to get help the male duck somehow chased it off. I have seen 1 coral snake, I fer de lance and a two boas (the snake that ate two of my chickens I thought was a fer de lance was actually a boa) - these are all dangerous but only the fer de lance is both venemous and agressive. And I have seen green vine snakes a few times - they are not dangerous. To answer your inbreeding question - it does matter in sheep but I believe it does not matter for the ducks or the chickens. Unfortunately, that means that none of my lambs can be used to breed and will all be used for meat unless I can find someone that wants a pet. Thanks for the questions!!

    Isn’t your fundamental problem that rooster? Without him, that broody hen can sit on eggs all she wants, but they won’t hatch. (Just don’t leave them so long they rot🙄)

    • @Mylittletropicalfarm
      @Mylittletropicalfarm 3 месяца назад

      Yes, but while they are broody they don’t eat well so I would rather they just don’t get broody. But if they are going to be broody they might as well give me more chickens.
