@@lildad559if you haven’t bought it I highly suggest you do… I sold my 97 for a 99 legacy outback, pretty much exactly the same but in better condition. Gonna put forester struts on it, already got 17” forester wheels on it. Gonna paint it with black truck bedliner soon
lol, not competing but I was shocked to see a CLEAN white lifted bugeye wrx wagon and had to ask him why. his response, he had the parts and wanted to do it.
I love both. being the honest guy I am, jeep Cherokee 4.0 with np242 transfer case is way better in snow, mud, and off road. just don't skimp on tires.
Nothing about this video shows anything that would make me think this will outdo a Jeep off road. AWD is great for rally racing, 4WD is better for actual off road driving. No saying this thing is not capable, but a Jeep with equal amount of modification will most likely outdo this Subaru across a range of obstacles.
that first gear thing is all the 1996-2000 legacy outback, same with reverse, theyre straight cut gears, so sometimes they dont want to shift, no synchro. when you drive one for a while you get the special jiggle touch to get it into gear
One of the most versatile vehicles on the road imo, more cargo room than a ford exploder, off road capable, good power, stock ground clearance is ample. I plowed my driveway last winter because i wanted to, not because i had to.
I live in Colorado and I see these everywhere. I guess they probably aren't so common in Georgia, but there are more Subaru's than almost every other vehicle combined. It's great.
I have a 97 outback too, I love it even if it needs a lot of work. Currently in the process of making a battlewagon. I took the back seats out and have a foam mattress in the back to sleep on during my travels. Can’t wait until I have the money to upgrade this car
Haha i love this thing, it really made me smile. Love the creativity in turning an ordinary wagon into something that looks like it came out of some off-road playstation game. Maybe i'm nostalgic about subie wagons, i grew up with a white 1997 Legacy Outback that my mom drove for many years.
I'm actually doing something similar. I have a 1998 legacy outback, currently switching from auto to manual, and I do want to lift it and add general grabbers. Love my outback
As a Crosstrek owner that has been on a few Subaru adventures, I definitely have had a taste of the Subaru cult that you refer to. Even in stock form they are insanely capable, and I love to see all the modded Subaru's out there hanging out with other SUV's, Jeeps and Trucks. The BattleWagon is pretty sweet and it's crazy with all of that custom home made stuff that "just works" that the car still runs and functions normally. Gotta love those Subaru's!
Why is there no link to his RUclips account or some way to get ahold of him? I'd like to follow him as I just bought a 2002 outback wagon 2.5l 4cyl and like this guy and also live in Tennessee near Franklin. Thanks
I have a 98 legacy with a 3 inch lift with mud tires with white letters out man this thing looks like like a hot wheels.and it's so much fun in these utah mountains just blows away the jeep guys minds at what it can do.
My friend just started parting out his 98 legacy sti swap, had a 2.0 short block, sti trans, sti interior, precision 5858, wastegate, fuel mods, brembos and all that good stuff woulda been cool to go from review the battle wagon to that lol
I have that same subie but it’s white and hauls ass in the mud lol 😂 I was weary at first because I’ve been a Jeep guy but I was shocked that AWD works
Would the owner of the outback care to share how he did the lift? I've been researching this off and on the last couple months but I can only find shock piller plates for a 1.5-2" lift
Swap out the struts for Forester struts. Change the top hats from the Outback struts to the Forester struts (on the rear). Install control arm spacers on the rear also
dear god, I had that same Hurst knob on my '95 BK Legacy. That thing was misery if it was cold! Also, the 'not going into first' thing is pretty common for this generation.
I have a 97 Impreza outback sport and idk which way to go with it. Idk whether to put rims on it and make it faster, or I can lift it throw knobby tires and make it look like the “Battle Wagon” lol what y’all think?
My outback has a really low 1st gear what year is this one. And mine is a 2002 that will go through any hole almost completely stock. The only mods are a, maybe an inch, lift and a trailer hitch.
Rad. Austin's battlewagon has some damn character for sure! Love it!!! Bring it (and that rad cross trek you referenced too) to Moab and let's do a head to head to head out there with the 'ol Superu (dig into my vidz)... also a rad roo, but differently awesome. Not as extreme lift, but also a heavily modified roo. I call it the most modified stock roo.... save the rims and bumper its all factory subaru!!! :) ciao and good stuff!!!
sick build but u keep saying it's one of the only modded outbacks but wat about Gramps 2.0 ik it's a librity wagon but it's the same as the legacy which is the same as a lowered outback
I just my 96 outback's transmission rebuilt and it still doesn't want to go into first gear unless you're at a dead stop. So it might not be unique to this one.
Thanks for watching guys!
What do you think of the BATTLEWAGON?!
ThatDudeinBlue pretty cool! PS: saw you on TV, Good Job ;)
ThatDudeinBlue both you and slaptrain posted at the same time... who do I watch haha. I'll love this
Thanks dude!
Both because you are about that life!
Always know your videos are awesome! Wish I had money to do the things u do! Soon.. keep it up!
This car is glorious. Simply glorious. It is everything that is right with Subaru. Love it.
He's rebuilding it right now, sucks I met him cant even go for a ride right now 😥 lives like 5 mins from me
William Suter Well tell him it's awesome! Can't wait to see it again. Best of luck to him!
I would sell literally my balls for a subaru like this
Its dope, heres mine. A work in progress. ruclips.net/video/HMqlC_g-xAA/видео.html
I love when people do this to Subarus.
Heres mine, its a work in progress. Im making my own 2.5 lower lift brackets. ruclips.net/video/HMqlC_g-xAA/видео.html
I have a 97 legacy outback I’m turning into a battle wagon soon

A Subaru thats not slammed? what is this another universe?
B0rikua45 i wonder if the owner vapes or not as well? lmao
Krzysztof Kunka I dought it, seeing as its lifted.
Krzysztof Kunka nah he chews instead cause its lifted
B0rikua45 its how it was meant to be
lol, not competing but I was shocked to see a CLEAN white lifted bugeye wrx wagon and had to ask him why. his response, he had the parts and wanted to do it.
Obnoxious = badass
Jake TheGardenSnake does this make the owner a customizer?
Oh hey jake
Have your newest video open in the other tab. haha
Jake TheGardenSnake Oh that's why you're so badass
Jake i love you.
So.... why did you not take it off road ?
That would require logic to be used in one of these reviews.
yeah i think what thatallredheadude said is quite obvious
Because we are saving it for an offroad shootout video. This was to introduce it.
ThatDudeinBlue sooooooo..... where's those off road videos at?? Lol
This is perfect!!! I've been looking for the perfect, no fucks given Outback and this is super goals!!
Battlewagon: looks at Jeep
"...Get the fuck outta my way..."
Doesn't change the fact that this station wagon can and will outdo them offroad

Danny Hampton it's really locking differentials and breakover/approach angles that matter
lol. jeeps are great miss my old jeep but my stock honda crv out preformed my buddys stock jeep. on the trails

That looks like something from forza horizon 3 hahahaha
RedRex I have a car in that game that looks just like that but it's not a wagon hahahaha
Boosted Buckets ikr
The Crew, anyone? :P
Boosted Buckets I play Forza horizon 3

The vehicle reviews of the older models have been great. Keep it up.
I bought mine last week, its 1997. Was "love at the first sight" hope keep together for years.
How’s it been? I feel that way about a couple I’m looking at now, a 97 and a 98
If it looks stupid but it works then it's not stupid.
I live in Colorado and I see these everywhere. I guess they probably aren't so common in Georgia, but there are more Subaru's than almost every other vehicle combined. It's great.
bout time you posted this i saw you filming it last month
I’d romp in that. Just bought a outback to daily. When you are a off-roader you always need a capable rig for when you see that new dirt road
The way this car was made is most likely why we are all on this channel and still loving any car we get to see 💃💥
David, a friendly criticism, more exterior exhaust notes please.
Whenever I'm bored, I come by and watch this, LOL!
Lmao duct tape and spit mentality. Gotta love it!
I have a modded outback lol. It has an sti engine and all terrains
me too, minus the STi motor, check out mi chan.
BurqueBill nice swap, what year outback?
Hey I have an STi swap too (Ej20G V3 JDM 1996) in my Outback too! What's in yours?
Can you make the same review but this time go OFF ROAD.
Никола Балканджийски he will this is just an intro vid
Никола Балканджийски I think he will in another vid

I usual hate subaru builds because they lack personality but this is awesome. This has so much personality! Great review!
i had one almost the same in flat black with 31 inch tyres, they are an incredible car, driving something like that puts a smile on your face
how did u lift it? i have a 99 outback
I. L O V E this thing!!! with cars like that it is all about function, and you can't have function without FUN!!! i so would rock this car every day
David, this is easily NOT the most obnoxious Outback ever. I can tell you that lmao.
I'm actually doing something similar. I have a 1998 legacy outback, currently switching from auto to manual, and I do want to lift it and add general grabbers. Love my outback

ive been following this owner on insta since ages and its awesome to see it here
this is absolutely amazing :3 wonderful review, thatdudeinblue! and absolutely awesome outback, Austin!
I just got my first Subaru...1997 Subaru legacy outback and I love it
Hype you are back to all these reviews
Reminds me of something from Mad Max!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video...the narrator...and the unique character of the vehicle in a day and age of group think. Thank you!
He should make a video of him taking it to a Subaru dealership for an oil change 😂
I remember when u only had 200k. Hope u hit a million soon
I have a Subaru Legacy of a similar year, but I want to mod mine for the street and swap it.
JDM outbacks have a optional gearbox with factory high/low factory reduction gear. there is a separate leaver by the handbrake/emergency brake.
Lord Grease Earl of Maggot 90% of the au early forester have hi lo range. Up to about 07ish
My 2000 outback has dual range, it's no where near as noticeable ratio as a real 4wd
I saw this at Import Alliance last fall!
That Outback was awesome!!!
thats when you have to stand back and just think "what am I doing with my life?"

"you have to shift into second then first gear" is there any subaru's that you dont have to? lmao
I would never want to work on a Subaru again, but I friggin love this car.
I’m so torn between lowering (just enough to get rid of wheel gap) or lifting my 99 Outback 😭
Please do a dedicated video to "Why I like cars." "What cars mean to me." "Why I Am An Enthusiast"
Where is the vape life?
Not a slammed WRX so no vape life here
theres something about cars like this that i just love...mad respect for all the 0 F#!$ given cars out there

the lights on that Subaru look hella awesome
that second to first thing might be a sign of the TOB going out
I love my legacy wagon. And my shifter does the same thing.
Let’s go! It’s such a rare occurrence we see our kind here
This guy lives right down the road from me ! 😂🤣 hahahaha
I have that same subie but it’s white and hauls ass in the mud lol 😂 I was weary at first because I’ve been a Jeep guy but I was shocked that AWD works

There is a lot of those here in northern MI. I will be lifting and swapping a dual range trans into a first gen legacy this summer
This thing looks rad!
I have a red wagon legacy 5 speed 2.2 NA. I am torn between lowering it a little or raising it. besides the manices I just removed my res and muffler.
The intro track is whos got your love by stonebank, its a decent song xD
I have a Subaru like that and was thinking of making it like that. Where did you purchase the lift kit?
dear god, I had that same Hurst knob on my '95 BK Legacy. That thing was misery if it was cold!

Keep doing what you are doing. This is amazing.
Will we get to see it go off road in a future video? I think we need it chief👍🏾
FIVE YEARS have past . ThatDudeinBlue have you changed and become older and different from when this video was made?
nice ride! i am looking for a suspension kit to improve my ride too which is the same model as yours. What suspension upgrade did you get?

I watched the whole ad for you Dave 👍
This car is sick, great review dude
Totally do another video on this thing! Maybe do some more lifted vehicles!
bad ass. id totally drive that. probably tears it up in the winter
This is not hilarious. This is awesome!!
Yes. Outbacks are awesome, I really want one of those particularly. First gen outbacks.
Holy shit that looks like my old "Zombie Wagon".
Love it !!!!! 😂 This Friday I'm going to look at one, a 1998 Subaru outback 😎💪💪💪
Id like more info on the suspension how the builder was able to achieve 4 inchs of lift. Is there build videos on youtube on this car?
What year is it?
Is it a 3.0 6 Cylinder?

Mad Max Subaru. It's perfect!
Once you say Battle Wagon that is a mic dropper. You got your what I got my Battle Wagon brrrrrrrrrr. I would love to do some mudding it that.
What did he use to lift this? And what tires and wheels is he running?
You should make the beginning of the video where you show of the car a little longer. In my opinion it just feels really short
I really want to see a part two offroad review.
I want see some off-road action not just a car show 😂
With a few more modifications, this thing would be a good candidate as a Zombie Outbreak Response Vehicle.
sick build but u keep saying it's one of the only modded outbacks but wat about Gramps 2.0 ik it's a librity wagon but it's the same as the legacy which is the same as a lowered outback

When will you be releasing the video with rhd kev ??
Just bought an 06 Outback with manual high low range gearbox and plan on modding it up for camping.
