Hi there Elsa - thanks for getting in touch. We're thrilled to hear that our video was so useful to you! We try our best to cover as many things as we possibly can, so it's great that we were able to help! Thanks again, Elsa. Best Regards, The Printerbase Team
just purchased this printer and so far its great and fast. one prob I'm having is on some things I print it comes out all black or 1/3 of it all black or a few paragraphs all black instead of the word copy i'm looking for. Thanks for your advice
Hi Merle, thanks for getting in touch. It sounds as if the issue could be a problem with the driver and so firstly I would make sure you have the correct driver installed for your operating system. It would also help to know if there is a particular type of file you are experiencing the issue with or is it on all files? A driver update would be the first recommendation but failing that it would be worth also speaking to the manufacturer to see if this is a common issue as there may be a straightforward solution available. The HP support team number is 0845 161 0030 I hope this helps. Many Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi WordSandStorm, Thanks for getting in touch, The HP LaserJet ProM477FDW printer ships with a 2,300 page black toner and a 1,200 page cyan, yellow and magenta toner. Many Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi Ryandinho, thanks for the question. Yes, the HP LaserJet Pro M477FDW will produce very good print quality and will be ideal for most business needs. However, the printer can print up to 200gsm, business cards normally range from 300-500gsm, if your after a laser printer to print business cards you will need to go for a high end A3 laser printer like the Xerox Phaser 7800DN I hope this helps Many Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi thank you for your informative video. I have the mfp477 fdw and am from Australia. I have changed the settings in the properties for printing duplex which works fine but I can't work out how to automatic scan duplex, I have googled and looked in the manual but have found no solutions. Hopefully you don't mind letting me know how to do automatic duplex scanning. Thanks for your help
Hi Michelle, thanks for getting in touch. It slightly depends on how you are scanning. If you're scanning using a software on your PC, then the settings will be within the software itself. But if you are scanning from the machine to a shared folder then we've found some instructions on this HP forum which should help -h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/how-do-i-duplex-scan-on-my-new-MFP-M477fdw/td-p/5802794 If you're still struggling after this then we'd advise you contact HP directly for help in doing this. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi Anthony, thanks for getting in touch. White toner printing is a specialist application and only available on a limited range of machines, none of the current HP Laser printer range offer a white toner option, which is also true for most other brands. However, we do offer a white toner laser printer, the Sunangel 32DW, which makes use of a white toner in place of the black toner usually found in 4 colour laser models. Designed with craft applications in mind, the 32DW allows you to print white toner onto dark or coloured media. Depending on your exact requirements for white toner, the 32DW may be a suitable option, however, we would be more than happy to discuss your requirements if you would like to call either Bob or Chris in our technical team. Take a look at the Sunangel 32DW here - www.printerbase.co.uk/sunangel-32sw-white-toner-printer.html I hope this helps. Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi there, I had bought Hp Laserjet Pro 200 M277 dw. The printing was fine but the scanning was a problem. The scanned images were tilted a bit. It was noticeable when I scanned a employment contract after printing and signing it.I tried to align using the paper guides in the document feeder but nothing changed. The support team tried to help by supplying a new printer and later upgrading the firmware and even reinstalling the driver software but no luck. In the end they picked up the printers and refunded the money. I wish to buy the Pro 400 M477fdw which has duplex scanning feature which will be nice but I am now hesitant given the fact that the printer is similar to M277dw. I was wondering if you have tested the scanning part and noticed any tilt in the output. I don't mind the tilt for things which are not important but when one has to scan important documents, it won't look nice. Any help will be much appreciated. When I posted this on the HP forum 2 users somewhere in the world had the same problem so I was definitely not alone. I am from New Zealand. Thanks
Hi Priyank Rao, thanks for getting in touch. The alignment issue you had previously with the HP machine could be caused by a couple of things. It could be that the scan head itself was misaligned, which is unlikely, or that the document itself was getting skewed when being pulled through the ADF on the machine during the scanning process. Whilst the guides are there to limit this from happening, it only takes a small difference in pressure on one side of the feed rollers to skew the page and result in a ‘tilted’ image. This effect should always be minimal but due to the nature of scanning using the ADF it is something that can happen on any machine, not just HP models. The M477 shares the same print engine as the M277 and in likelihood the same scan setup so with this in mind I would expect that this effect may still happen on this model too when using the ADF but it is just dependent on the above factors rather than a direct issue. The only way to ensure on any machines that the scans are 100% aligned is to use the scanning platen on any machine as this removes the feeding aspect of the process and would prevent accidental skewing of the scans. Here's a link to the M477FDW - www.printerbase.co.uk/hp-laserjet-pro-mfp-m477fdw-a4-multifunction-colour-laser-printer.html I hope this helps! Thanks The Printerbase Team
Thanks a lot for your prompt response. I have a feeling that its likely to happen as I feel its a design fault.HP mentioned that unless a lot of users don't report it, there technical team won't work on it.The retailers here don't have a demo unit to test,so you have to take a chance again. I have a canon inkjet printer which has a document feeder as this feature is very important to me. I never had any issues and the images were always perfect.I was trying to move away from inkjet printers as the cartridges would dry up soon and cost a lot.I am looking for a printer with the same features and found a brother multifunction which is more expensive and also has drums which can add to the running cost in the long run.My usage is very less and I cannot find a color laser jet with scanning functionality in my budget. If you can suggest a printer that will be great. I do need a copier and document feeder, don't need fax. Cheers
It is likely that the scan issue with the HP is inherent to the way it feeds the sheets, but as you say, unless enough people complain they are unlikely to try and remedy it. There is no real measure to see how accurate a machines scanning alignment is unless you try it, which is of course only possible with a demo unit. What I would say is that we don’t often come across this problem. Bearing in mind that you have had good experiences with Canon machines have you considered purchasing one of their new inkjet models? Such as the Maxify 5455 - www.printerbase.co.uk/canon-maxify-a4-colour-multifinction-inkjet-mb5455.html, these use a pigment ink which won’t dry up but also have a large capacity meaning they are cheap to run. Also, as they are inkjet they don’t have the drum units to replace, which you will get with most laser machines these days. A similarly priced laser would be much more expensive to run and have more consumables to replace, so it’s definitely worth a look. I hope this helps! Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi Stefano Gatto, Yes, the HP LaserJet Pro M479 Series is still current, however these are going to be going end of life later this year and replaced by the HP LaserJet M479 Series. I hope this helps Many Thanks The Printerbase Team
Thank you for the clarification. How do I print only black and white without the rest of the colors appearing? That is, can I cancel three colors and keep only black?
If you pause this video at the 1:11 mark, you can see the option on the menu screen that gives you the choice to select either black (and white) or color.
Hi Maria, thanks for getting in touch. The default setting of the device is determined by the global settings applied when the machine was first installed, and it appears that colour has been selected as the default setting in your case. To change this, access the print driver via the devices and printer settings (if using Windows), right click on the printer icon and open printer preferences, which should open the driver menu as you would normally see when you print. If you then change the colour settings here to black and white/greyscale and apply these settings, then this will be the default setting when you print in the future. If you have multiple devices your printing from then this would need to be done on each device unless the driver is being used via a network server. I hope this helps. If you continue to have issues, then it might be best to give us a call to go through this with one of our printer experts. Kind Regards, The Printerbase Team
Hi Nan, Thanks for the question. The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M477FDW takes a 6,500 page black toner, which costs £108 ex VAT and 5,000 pages of cyan, yellow and magenta toners, which costs £145 ex VAT. Many Thanks The Printerbase Team
HI, I have the same (unanswered) question as below (plo Kery). Having to change the black cartridge for the first time the tray - standing on an uneven surface, rushed out and seems to be locked. I am unable to return the cartridge dramwer to the machine
Hi there Jens Jakobsen, Thanks for getting in touch. Could I please double check on what you mean by this (apologies for the confusion) - if possible, could you please clarify if the paper tray is stuck out, or if the cartridge loading bay is stuck? Thanks in advance. Kind regards, The Printerbase Team
printerbase.co.uk Hi. Thanks for rapid answer. It is The latter - the cartridge loading bay that rushed out due to the tilted position of the printer and got stuck. I was unable to reposition it, and decided to empty the bay in order to facilitate the procedure. Now I could remove the bay, but am unable to reinstall the "thing". I am pretty sure that I haven't broken anything. Greetings from Denmark
Hi again Jens Jakobsen, Thanks for your patience with this - and no problem at all, we are always happy to help :) In response to your issue, I can now advise that the toner cartridge holder assembly slides out at the front (see here) and because it was tilted forward, it sounds as though it has slid all the way out and came off the carriage slides. Unfortunately, we do not have the service manual to fully detail exactly how it slots back into the machine, although they usually rest on a couple of runners in the same way a drawer does in a cabinet. Rather than trying to force it, we would recommedn you contact your local HP support centre for some further assistance/advice, as this could well get damaged if not inserted correctly. HP Denmark would probably be the best port of call: www8.hp.com/dk/da/contact-hp/contact.html I hope that this helps! Kind regards, The Printerbase Team
Hi Tim, The HP LaserJet M477FDW is still a current model, we haven't heard anything from HP about replacing this printer anytime soon. Many Thanks The Printerbase Team
An interesting question: I have had the predecessor MFP 476 dw for 8 years , which brings the same performance but in gray housing and with "right" operation. Recently I ordered a GX7050 because I was sure I could buy a newer better performance now. Far from it, my device stands here like new after 5000 pages and the half as heavy new device from CANON can not overtake at any point. The price of a used 476 at AMAZON is now 100 € above my original price 8 years ago. 😊
Hi The M477FDW will definitely print on envelopes, however we're not sure if there are any restrictions regarding cheques. We're looking into this for you. Printerbase team.
Hi Sorry for the late reply. As far as cheques go, the only limitation we can think of is the thickness of the paper. As long as what your printing on is between 60 and 176gsm you should be ok. We hope this helps Printerbase team
Hello printer base i have some problems with this printer I was sorely disappointed to find that the scanning on the machine is terrible! Can you check what size in kb have printer that scan file by adf 10 pages to pdf 300dpi color? In my HP m477. The file sizes of the scanned PDF files are easily 15 - 25 times larger in file size than most other MFP's in it's class from other vendors at the same resolution (eg 300dpi black & white). The 1 page test of an A4 receipt I did scanned in at 598KB, for ONE page! Ran it though a PDF converter and the file size dropped to 26KB!!! Virtually the same quality as the original. That's 23 times the size. Couldn't see a way of attaching the PDFs to this post. Obviously, owning a MFP that has scan to network, I don't want to be manually converting every file we scan, the whole point of getting a network folder scanner was to simplify the process! I've upgraded the firmware on the device hoping this would fix it up, it didn't. With the firmware not fixing the issue I've done a bunch of research online and others have indicated it's because HP are using an ancient version of Adobe to do the conversion? Not sure if this is accurate.
Hi Rosmarko, Thanks for the question, My best suggestion would be for you to contact HP directly to see if they can advise him about how to reduce the file sizes. As far as I can tell only using standard PDF on a lower resolution would create smaller files. The HP Support number is 0845 161 0030 Many Thanks The Printerbase Team
there is problem in my laser jet printer says unauthorized supplies which the colors cartages have been tested in another machine they are good , so if you have any idea how can I solve this problem I will be thankful
Hi This may be a silly question but it's important nonetheless. Are the cartridges you're using genuine HP cartridges? If so, then this is something you'll need to report to HP. If you're using compatible (fake) cartridges, then these problems are more likely to occur. We recommend using genuine consumables from the printers manufacturer and nothing else, as issues like this are much less likely to happen. If your toners are genuine, then the next course of action would be to contact HP directly and let them know you're having a problem. We hope this helps. Printerbase team
How do you get automatic duplexing to work? I have the MFP 477FDW version and it only let's me manual print. I have to take the one sided prints and reinsert them into the second tray. The options on the printer don't even have an option to make sure it prints both sides automatically. Even the options on my PC only say manual printing :/ please help.
Hi King Mitchell, thanks for getting in touch. From the software program, select print, then properties or preferences and click the finishing tab - You should see an option that says print on both sides. Please navigate to page 37 (it will say page 49 at the top on the PDF nav) in the user guide here for exact instructions - h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c04636804-2.pdf I hope this helps. Please let us know if you continue to have any issues. Thanks The Printerbase Team
From the print screen, click layout. You should see the option to turn on 2 sided print, then you choose if you want it to turn on the long end, or the short side (horizontal).
Hi there Komesha Essentials, Thanks for getting in touch. In response to your query, I would suggest going over your printer settings to ensure that everything is set up correctly. From what you're saying, it sounds as though the mirror print setting has been enabled in the printer driver. The setting to check should be in the 'advanced' option of the driver and can be found here - support.hp.com/za-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/7902014/document/c02227495 - under the heading labelled 'layout and formatting.' If this is not the cause, I would strongly recommend contacting HP support for further troubleshooting advice. You can call HP directly on 0207 660 0596. Kind regards, The Printerbase Team
Hi Dmitry, thanks for getting in touch. 4 hours is the default time the printer will auto-shutdown after entering sleep mode. However, both the sleep mode timer and shutdown timer can be changed in the menus on the device. I hope this helps. Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi Dmitry, Unfortunately not, the maximum time allowed in sleep before the device turns off is 8 hours I believe. From looking in the user manual, it appears that you may be able to delay shutdown if the machine is connected on the network to a constantly active network port or fax port. I hope this helps. Thanks The Printerbase Team
Can you explain please what does it mean "active network port"? My devices are turned off, but printer still doesn't go in sleep mode (as I want) for more than 8 hours. All this is so strange. It does what it wants and settings mean nothing!
Hi Dmitry, An active network link would be a ‘live’ connection to the machine. If all of the connected devices are turned off then the machine would not have an active link and the printer would then enter sleep and auto-off mode. If the device was connected to an always-on print server for example, then this would likely constitute an active port and prevent auto-off mode taking effect. At this stage I would recommend contacting the HP support team as they would be able to advise the best combination of settings to achieve the result you need. I hope this helps. Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi Mundle’s Income Tax & Accounting Services, thanks for getting in touch. I can confirm you can scan documents to either of these formats as well as a number of others if you needed to. I hope this helps and please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi Ashik Mohamed, Thanks for the question, here is a video guide how to setup double sided printing for your HP printer - ruclips.net/video/FosLXDB-0mA/видео.html I hope this helps Many thanks The Printerbase Team
I have this printer but not sure I would buy HP again. They send unwanted updates to their printers to make them error on non HP printer toner. They charge crazy prices for toner. Over $600.00 to replace the toner with XL over 300.00 with the tiny size toner. Maybe as well toss the printer out after 2000 sheets of paper. Then it becomes an over priced scanner only
Hi Usman Ali, Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, the HP LaserJet Pro M477FDW can scan up to 216 x 356mm sized paper from the ADF (Automatic Document feeder). I hope this helps. Many Thanks The Printerbase Team
Hi Pascal, thanks for getting in touch. This would need to be purchased directly from HP and from Tanzania you can contact them on (+255) 22 212 1601 I hope this helps Many Thanks The Printerbase Team

I hope this helps and if you have any further questions then please let us know. Thanks The Printerbase Team

Hi Nan,

Thanks for your patience with this - and no problem at all, we are always happy to help :)
In response to your issue, I can now advise that the toner cartridge holder assembly slides out at the front (see here) and because it was tilted forward, it sounds as though it has slid all the way out and came off the carriage slides.
HP Denmark would probably be the best port of call: www8.hp.com/dk/da/contact-hp/contact.html
I hope that this helps!
Kind regards,
The Printerbase Team
Is it capable of printing inventory...?like counting how many pages being print by specific user? thanks
Hi
Unfortunately there is no job accounting option on the 477fdw.
Printerbase team.
Thanks for the info..
Windows should be able to tell you that kind of information based on what is sent to the spooler.
They are still selling this model - but it's now 3 years old. Any sign of a new model on the horizon?
Hi Tim,
The HP LaserJet M477FDW is still a current model, we haven't heard anything from HP about replacing this printer anytime soon.
Many Thanks

An interesting question:
I have had the predecessor MFP 476 dw for 8 years , which brings the same performance but in gray housing and with "right" operation.
Hi, I would like to know if this printer can print envelops and cheques. Thank you.
Hi
The M477FDW will definitely print on envelopes, however we're not sure if there are any restrictions regarding cheques. We're looking into this for you.
Printerbase team.
Hi
Sorry for the late reply.
As far as cheques go, the only limitation we can think of is the thickness of the paper. As long as what your printing on is between 60 and 176gsm you should be ok.
We hope this helps

Hi Rosmarko,
Thanks for the question,
My best suggestion would be for you to contact HP directly to see if they can advise
him about how to reduce the file sizes. As far as I can tell only using
standard PDF on a lower resolution would create smaller files.
The HP Support number is 0845 161 0030
Many Thanks

really
there is problem in my laser jet printer says unauthorized supplies which the colors cartages have been tested in another machine they are good , so if you have any idea how can I solve this problem I will be thankful
Hi
This may be a silly question but it's important nonetheless.

Please navigate to page 37 (it will say page 49 at the top on the PDF nav) in the user guide here for exact instructions - h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c04636804-2.pdf
I hope this helps. Please let us know if you continue to have any issues.
Thanks

From the print screen, click layout. You should see the option to turn on 2 sided print, then you choose if you want it to turn on the long end, or the short side (horizontal).
I have a new MFP M477 HP laser jet. It only prints mirror image of my documents. How do I make it print properly?
Hi there Komesha Essentials,
Thanks for getting in touch.
In response to your query, I would suggest going over your printer settings to ensure that everything is set up correctly. From what you're saying, it sounds as though the mirror print setting has been enabled in the printer driver. The setting to check should be in the 'advanced' option of the driver and can be found here - support.hp.com/za-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8710-all-in-one-printer-series/7902014/document/c02227495 - under the heading labelled 'layout and formatting.'
If this is not the cause, I would strongly recommend contacting HP support for further troubleshooting advice. You can call HP directly on 0207 660 0596.
Kind regards,
The Printerbase Team
How long can it be turned on in sleep mode before I must turn it on manually to print?
Hi Dmitry, thanks for getting in touch.
4 hours is the default time the printer will auto-shutdown after entering sleep mode. However, both the sleep mode timer and shutdown timer can be changed in the menus on the device.
I hope this helps.
Thanks
The Printerbase Team
Can I turn off auto-shutdown to make it always wait in sleep mode?
Hi Dmitry,
Unfortunately not, the maximum time allowed in sleep before the device turns off is 8 hours I believe. From looking in the user manual, it appears that you may be able to delay shutdown if the machine is connected on the network to a constantly active network port or fax port.
I hope this helps.
Thanks
The Printerbase Team
Can you explain please what does it mean "active network port"? My devices are turned off, but printer still doesn't go in sleep mode (as I want) for more than 8 hours. All this is so strange. It does what it wants and settings mean nothing!
Hi Dmitry,
An active network link would be a ‘live’ connection to the machine.
Thanks

Does this printer scan document as PDF or picture?
Hi Mundle’s Income Tax & Accounting Services, thanks for getting in touch.
I can confirm you can scan documents to either of these formats as well as a number of others if you needed to.
I hope this helps and please let us know if you have any further questions.

thank you my bro very realable advise
I have this printer but not sure I would buy HP again. They send unwanted updates to their printers to make them error on non HP printer toner. They charge crazy prices for toner. Over $600.00 to replace the toner with XL over 300.00 with the tiny size toner. Maybe as well toss the printer out after 2000 sheets of paper. Then it becomes an over priced scanner only
can it scan legal size paper?
Hi Usman Ali,
Thanks for getting in touch.
Yes, the HP LaserJet Pro M477FDW can scan up to 216 x 356mm sized paper from the ADF (Automatic Document feeder).
I hope this helps.
Many Thanks
