How anyone could deduct points from this game's score because of the voice acting is beyond me. The voice acting is one of the best parts! The characters are loveable, the dialogue is witty, the voice-acting is superb, and if you plan to replay levels over and over to grind for hearts or items or achievements, you actually have the option to turn off the voice-acting! Not really sure why you'd consider it a con at all!
its genuinely one of the best parts of the game, even after months of not playing ill come back to it and still be able to quote the chapters almost word for word - especially if it's Hades
+yungmatt009 I got this game over a year ago. by the time I started playing I know no one who was on multiplayer. if you do start playing again, would you consider adding me and playing multi-player modes?
This needs a remaster in the Switch!! Such an awesome, well made game that's ruined by its controls. Not Sakurai's fault though, Nintendo higher ups never told him about the circle pad pro...
The controls are amazing. What are you talking about? Sure they're kind of confusing at first, but you just have to get used to it. And once you do, they're very comfortable.
The issue with both the Circle Pad Pro and the Switch (if there were a port) is that it'd be difficult to translate the stylus controls to a 2nd analog stick. The game doesn't actually control like other 3rd person shooters, in the sense that the crosshair is actually a moving cursor and not a static part of the screen that stays still while the screen moves around it. If you were to port the game as-is and replace the stylus with a 2nd analog stick, it would feel REALLY weird, like playing a light gun game with an analog stick, like Resident Evil Survivor or something. Dragging a cursor around the screen with an analog stick would be very weird. It'd probably be simple enough to change it so that it DOES control/feel like a 3rd person shooter, but that would require more than a simple remaster or port; they'd need to change up the aiming/shooting controls, probably change animations on top of it to compensate, and more. Uprising is actually optimized FOR the cursor, so you're able to move Pit around in full 360 motion (on the ground sections) while still aiming with the cursor and moving it around the screen, and if you were to change the game to be a standard 3rd person shooter with dual analog controls, you couldn't do this. It could possibly be mitigated by having a default 360 degree free-look control scheme by default and entering an "aiming" mode by holding L or something, where it locks it over the shoulder a la Resident Evil 4 or Dead Space, but that then raises the issue of the unique shooting mechanics like side/back step charge shots and the like. Not saying it's undoable, but it'd take some reworking. If they just ported the game and upscaled the visuals while only mapping the stylus aiming to the 2nd analog stick, it'd honestly control horribly. It'd need some control overhauls, but people don't tend to think about this aspect and think it'd be fine just to port.
Says the story is great, doesn't like how the characters are always talking. Wait, isn't that THE story? Without it, the game would be dull and plain. I sound like a idiot saying this but it gives the game life
Dude, I know.Play it all the time. I wonder if they'll remake it on the wii u.Maybe it's a bad idea but ign did make some undeserved calls. Did you guys even know there's a setting where you could make them stop talking. Such idiots. :P
I hate how he criticized the controls for this game. I felt they were one of the best parts. It allowed me to move while making precision and quick adjustments to my aim. The controls were unique and make great use of the 3DS's dual screen format. Also I never had any soreness playing this game at all. The only issue with controls is that it take a little bit to get use to, but really I was use to the new control scheme after 1 level.
The controls were alright, but it's severely limited by the platform it's on because of the small screen and one joystick. It could've controlled so much better on the Wii U
Kid Icarus ruined 3DS gaming for me. I don't think I'll ever find another game with such intriguing characters, fantastic music, and solid game play. So far (in my opinion) the top games for the 3DS would be Kid Icarus Uprising, Resident Evil Revelations, Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, and Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon. Dunnoe what to grab next- any suggestions?
Nah, the controls were pretty horrible. It would've been better if this game were released on the Wii U instead of the 3DS because you can actually move the retical around without getting loads of hand-cramps all the time. But yeah, the rest of the game was phenomenal.
I got used to the controls after a few hours so i don't think that theyr that bad also it gives you the option to turn off the voice acting after you beet the final boss if you want.also i really like the voice acting.
Really? I think the stylus in the ground makes pit very dynamic, as he is not on a stiff 3rd person shooter mode and it makes aiming lightning fast and more fun
My only two complaints with this game is how stupid stamina is in this game. In other games, when you run out of stamina, you can still walk and attack. But in this game you're a sitting duck. My second complaint is that the In-Peril auto dodge modification messes me up far more than it actually helps me. I don't know if it's just me who has this problem, but when that modification is active, Pit usually "dodges" into attacks that would've missed. Other than that, I really like this game c:
This game came out in a pre-New 3DS era. I wonder if Uprising benefits from the New 3DS XL because your hand isn't as cramped. As a 3DS owner since Holiday 2011, I have yet to play this game. I'll gladly play it on my New 3DS XL.
This game has the best soundtrack, I´ve ever heard for a videogame, even better than "Zelda" or "Halo", and it´s not just the great maintheme, there are dozens of themes, that are just awesome! The music is responsible for most of the fun and the epic feeling, great game and a legendary soundtrack!
i actually started the game this week and yeah i love it. i have no problem with the controls but i do agree that there's too much talking going on while i'm trying on concentrate on the battles i do actually like the voice acting and want to pay attention to what they say but i wish i didn't have to listen to them and fight at the same time..
I just got this game like a few days ago and I really love it. The controls aren't bad but it would be greatly appreciated if there was a second joystick. This game is pretty awesome and if there was a Wii U sequel, I'd buy it in a heart beat.
The Wii U is awesome, people are just salty. Did you check out this year's E3? If so, then you know the Wii U will get awesome games in the future. The only game I didn't like was the Project Robot or whatever it's called. I even liked Yoshi's Wool World cuz it reminds me of Little Big Planet.
I never understood why people think the controls are annoying, of course its weird with the stylus, so just grip it with both hands and use your right thumb, it's very responsive :)
You basically have to use the stylus all the time while playing the game, so that means you have to hold the 3DS using your left hand only to play the game.
As much as I loved the commentary, an option to turn it off anytime would be better. Like saying if they allowed subtitles to be turned off or on or switch them from top to bottom only if you beat the game. It's the player's loss if they miss out on one of the best parts and the story.
There's nothing wrong with the conversation. The characters are hilarious.. It's one of the game's strong points imo. There's nothing to dislike about this game.. I absolutely loved it ♥
Too bad this game won't have sequel, but at least Pit is gonna be in the next Super Smash Bros. and to me it earned its place as one of the best games Nintendo has made yet.
you know you can hold it with both hands right .-. one hand for circle pad and 3 fingers for holding the ds and index and thumb for stylus not that hard
Gameplay somewhat reminded me of asuras wrath, shooting powerballs from his fists vey rapidly while flying n running through epic sequences in levels, its not a bad thing....just sayin
I actually love the voice acting and it never gets old, when I do achievements after the game I just turn off dislodge easy solution and I know a lot of people don't like the controls but I got used to them pretty quickly but it was still hard s times and I'm disappointed Hades was the only real boss fight in he air when all he other ones were land battles (I'm not counting the short segment with the hewdraw in ch 3) I've never played a game like it before since I don't really like shooters but now kid Icarus is up there with my favorites like the Mario and Luigi series and Mega Man X games :)
Oh come on.This game is FLAWLESS.I had no problem with the controls whatsoever, the voice acting didnt annoy me either(it is preety good). You guys are just nitpicking
***** Am I weird if I ended up buying sticker star for 700? I figured being a lefty I wasn't entirely interested in Kid Icarus, since i'd be force to use my right hand for stylus, and Star Fox I played so much as a kid I don't really need to revisit it again right now, and paper mario is a new adventure I haven't played yet albeit the weakest in the franchise but I heard it's still pretty decent.
Dylan Fallis I would've went with Kid Icarus, but the controls are terrible so I'm going for Star Fox instead since it's been so long. I've never played the Paper Mario games, but they seem to have pretty solid reviews so I don't see why not. I only have 650 coins so I'm trying to figure out If I should buy, Bravely Default, Ocarina of time, or Project X Zone so I can get the extra 50 coins I need, but I'm stumped :(
Dylan Fallis I love Ocarina, but I just finished (ALBW which was amazing) and I'm currently playing WW on Wii U so I'm afraid I might burn out on too many Zelda games. Thanks for the advice though, I think I'll go for Bravely Default since I liked the Demo.
8.5? this could get a 9.5 -The history is INTENSE -The gameplay is good -The option of the weapons is a very good idea -The multiplayer is great. -The game is funny
i could barely play this game at first because of the controls, it felt like i was always about to drop my 3ds. i eventually got over it and its still a great game
This is terrible. Sakurai stated the Circle Pad Pro wouldn't work with the KIU controls, and I don't see how it would. Thus another IGNorant review by a player who has never actually played the game or learned it's controls.
when you want to turn it's really odd, the camera is fixed and you need to move the stylet fast, it's pretty weird in my opinion. This completely ruined teh game for me.
Honestly this isn't a good review, I bought it when I was on a trip to my sisters college and I loved the dialog, cheesy but good and some humor at some points and the controls were perfect, just as I would have expected. Though the graphics were blotchy the everything else made up for it. But the part that bothers me is he didn't mention as good of a game as it is it is extremely repetitive. From a person who loves games get it but at more of a 30$ price range and you'll be happy.
How anyone could deduct points from this game's score because of the voice acting is beyond me. The voice acting is one of the best parts! Vinny Dupree Plus Hades is a pro comedian
Because IGN is too picky...
It's weird that he found the voices annoying because that was One if my favourite aspects of the game.
its genuinely one of the best parts of the game, even after months of not playing ill come back to it and still be able to quote the chapters almost word for word - especially if it's Hades
I love the dialogue so much that I can quote almost entire levels.
lol
I cannot imagine the game without it. It OOZES charm.
ThrillingDuck Agreed. I gotta start playing it again. I had a lot of fun in multiplayer. I really hope it gets a sequel
Likewise ^_^
+yungmatt009 I got this game over a year ago. by the time I started playing I know no one who was on multiplayer. if you do start playing again, would you consider adding me and playing multi-player modes?
the voice acting is one of the coolest thing of the game
+Sean Slayton I agree.
This needs a remaster in the Switch!! Such an awesome, well made game that's ruined by its controls. Not Sakurai's fault though, Nintendo higher ups never told him about the circle pad pro...

"The dialougue gets pretty annoying."
I believe there's a thing called settings....
I think there's a thing called turning down the volume
Caleb Roberts To not listen to this soundtrack? Never!
@@ShouldOfStudiedForTheTest you can adjust sound effects, music and voice acting individually

I love how much they talk

You can have a story without constant banter. That said I'll take extremely well written banter over story any day.
+bestpsychosean hasnolastname Luckily it is well written
It never bothered me it made it more lighthearted rather a horror like game
Nova Watch And it's funny
Nova Watch Not at all, I agree I don't mind the talking and they do make a lot of funny commentary.
The dialogue is amazing. What are you talking about?
Wat
You rated it 8.5 becuase of controls you can change? It deserves 9.5 MINIMUM!!!

Graphics, voice, sound is amazing... just the controls on the ground can be tedious.
the Circle Pad Pro DOES support Kid Icarus:Uprising -_-
For reals? I mean I'm not gonna get the circle pad pro but it's good to know it works.
but its only to support left handed people, it just flips the controlls around
The Bright Cube as of the recording, it didn't. Now it does though.
Not really. Only supports some left handed people by flipping controls

Deserves to be remade / remastered on the switch
Idk sakurai had a hard time with ultimate he needs a break
Remasters rarely involve a game's original creative team. They get outsourced all the time
In my opinion the dialogue is great, the controls work well and the ground battles are better than the sky battles
Did....Did I see a metroid?
Reference to Metroid. XD
No you saw a Kamayto.
Nope, completely different universe.

There's a stand that helps left-handed players.
Circle pad pro is great for left handed people, it's not that expensive either.

There are no frame drops in this game aside from the deliberate one's when you kill something, but that's purely for effect... and feels awesome!
