They are too all over the place. Need to stop trying to beat Marvel in the short term and focus on the long term development of the universe. It took Marvel 10 YEARS to go from Iron Man to finally facing the big bag Thanos.

How it should have gone: Man of Steel The Batman Wonder Woman Aquaman The Flash Green Lantern Corps Justice League 1 The Flash 2 - Flashpoint (At this point they could change what wasn't working by changing the timeline) Superman 2 - Brainiac Batman 2 - Red Hood Wonderwoman 2 Shazam - Origins Justice League 2 - Darkseid There would be no harm in copying the Marvel schematic, since it is a logical progression. You can't simply throw out characters that are unknown to people who don't read comics in a match up movie like they did in Justice League and expect anyone to care about them. I like DC, but they are haphazardly throwing crap to the wall and hoping it will stick, and hiring horrible writers in the process.

A joker origin story sounds terrible, part of why that character is amazing is cause he's a force of nature, a cosmic event. I don't want some story humanizing him and explaining why he is the way he is
Justice League has the most overused plot ever to unite a team: random alien invasion one day. How many times has that happened?! The future movies will set things right as you point out. Aquaman will be a standout with the underwater scenes and battles, Flashpoint will have the alternate universe plot, JL 2 might have team vs team battle. I think critics will like what the future holds since the first round was cliched ridden.

The DCEU is already broken based on this film lineup. That is the one thing that Marvel is doing right. They at least have some continuity. It's insane to me that they are considering a Joker spinoff movie that is not part of the DCEU while still having Jared Leto playing the Joker. Worse yet they are trying to make it some origin crime story focused around the Joker. As Heath Ledger's Joker once said to Batman "You complete me." Without a Batman there really is no joker. DiCaprio would be smart to stay away from this potential dumpster fire.
That’s what made the Joker great. He never had a origin story and that made him the best villain. What made him become the joker, who is the joker, who knows. An origin story is literally the worse thing they could do with the character.

Like it or not, it's not Marvel that makes DC movies look bad; DC movies are bad because that's what they really are: Bad. They have huge flaws. I'm not saying MCU is flawless. The thing is that Marvel learns from their mistakes and improves while DC doesn't. And the flaws that MCU makes are easily forgiven because comedy and a safe and smooth plot is Marvel's redemption factor.
How can he become Nightwing? Didn't the Robin in the Dark Knight movie have a different name than the one that became Nightwing? In BvS the other Robin was killed. Then that might create two Batman storylines in the DC films.
It feels like DC are too busy trying to catch-up and compete with Marvel, they should have taken their cue from Marvel and concentrated on slowly building their universe, one movie at a time. Each major character should have had at least one or two solo movies before bringing them together for 2 Justice League movies, then they should have continued building some more with solo's for the likes of Shazaam, Constantine and Lantern. Then a third Justice League movie where they introduce the Injustice storyline bringing pretty much the entire DC Universe together. Because that's the storyline everyone wants to see, they want to see Superman kill Lois, Metropolis get flattened, Joker get his heart ripped out and Superman go completely schizoid and take over the world and the entire DC universe kicking each others ass. Come one DC, pull your fucking head out!
Also doesn't help that their TV series exist in different universes. Marvel also gets that right and I think they will only improve on that in the future.
well personally i don't think they need to do that. i'm not saying current movies are better then marvel, one thing they did right is interaction of other superhero in the movies while their solo movies is happening, for example man of steel fight Bruce Wayne was there, in suicide squad also. The only thing DC needs to do is stop playing catch with marvel.
Playing catch up is exactly what they need to do. By the time the MCU was 5 years in, they'd put out 8 movies, including standalones for 4 different characters, multiple sequels, and the first big Avengers team up. The DCEU is 5 years in now, and they only have 5 films, and only 2 of those are standalones. The problem is that they are playing catch up the wrong way. They decided Avengers was the goal, so they tried to jump right into the team up movies after Man of Steel. They also had the same guy do every movie except Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad. They're not doing what they need to do to put out movies fast enough, so we don't get the standalone movies to build up the characters, so the team ups feel really forced. It doesn't help that 60% of the DCEU is directed by Snyder, a guy who thinks that fight scenes in the rain are all you need for good drama. If they really want to ape Marvel, they need to hire better directors to make better movies (preferably directors that know there are colors other than grey). They need to hire more directors to make the movies faster. And they need to make several standalone films to build up the characters before they make each team up film.
They should try to strike a deal with Netflix once Marvel pulls all their content from them. It'll be awesome to have some R rated series like Daredevil but with DC characters. And maybe they can tie it into the DCMU.
They literally just need better directors and writers, every new dc film gets compared to Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy and they're never gonna compare unless they work on the root of the problem
Honestly, what they could do is use Flashpoint to be their scapegoat with switching the Batman's. Flashpoint is all about changes in timelines, so they could say that was a ripple effect.

DC is currently filming a "Titans" series for their upcoming streaming service. It looks like their plans are for a "Robin" era Dick Grayson (maybe Nightwing to come), but they will have Starfire, yes.
I really hope they bring Starfire to the big screen. You can't really portray her (her orange skin and her awesome powers) on a TV show budget. Early set photos from the Teen Titans show have pretty much confirmed it

MONTY the cinematic universe doesn't even acknowledge the Netflix/ TV shows exist. They are technically the same properties but the relationship is impossibly one sided. The cinematic universe started off with a movie about an indestructible green rage monster, lets you know pretty much right away this isn't a story or group of stories grounded in reality.
Actually he is the producer on DCCU movies like BVS and JL. So he is still working for DC/WB . But he is not a director any more most likely because he does not understand DC characters as his Batman clearly demostrates. Let's say he is not as respected by DC fans as he is with movie goers when it comes to DC flims. He just had a lucky break with Joker , his first movie was almost a flop, the 3rd was terrible saved by Tom's Hardy performance and the huge sucess of 2nd one. Personally I still try to understand his insane casting choice of Catwoman in the 3rd one. H could not pick a more unsuitable actor and make Catwoman more boring even if he tried very hard. Great director though, I am huge fan of Inception and interstellar. The problem is that he excels at realistic looking movies and that would not work for DC Universe movie because there is no way you sell those stories as easily as realistic as he did with his Batman movies.

Anyone else feels that DC films are more successful when the sway a little away from the sucker punch/tongue in cheek feel of Marvel films, I mean look at TDK trilogy, it was gritty and realistic which is why it was so popular and for me that defined DC at that time, now it's just like they are trying to copy Marvel by playing catchup.
yes. oh my gosh. The comics are so much darker and that's what's good about them. There's no need to do what marvel is doing. They're great when they're done well and not mashing together story lines and putting in humor where dark intelligent dialect should be. I think them always trying to make the movies pg13 is one of their main flaws. They're constantly trying to grab every last dollar they can by making sure children can see it, and it's losing value. That's the one thing Marvel did right with Logan. They rated it R and we we're so grateful for it. Hopefully DC figures that out sooner than later, because the charters have such depth that it's ashame to watch them go down this preteen friendly path.
you're very right hayley. but remember that the only reason fox/marvel took a chance on making a rated R logan movie was cause of the success of their rated R Deadpool film. So the real risk was taken in making Deadpool rated R. they wouldn't have taken that chance with wolvie due to his popularity, so once they saw the money rolling in for deadpool I assume they were like "if this many are seeing deadpool, imagine wolverine, green light it"

If you have seen Django Unchained you know he can play a bad guy, really really good. Just look at Heath Ledger, when he was announced as the Joker, fanboys doomed the movie, and he ended up doing the character more than justice
I think leonardo's futur is in playing more evil character. Hes good at it, the joker's voice is particular though. And dicaprio dosent change his voice very often but ill give him a shot as i think he is one of the best actors.

Don't trust the box office man. According to the box office, Transformers and Avatar are some of the best movies ever made. And to be honest low sales for Justice League probably has more to do with how bad Batman v Superman was.

Dicaprio as Joker will save the DCEU and will probably make him one of the best actors of all time. He already has an amazing line up of classics. A joker film would just cap it off.
Problem with DCEU movies... They're rushed. They have no order. The MCU did it perfectly, with Iron Man being an accidental thing originally meant to merge with a Hulk movie. But they reworked it and made the movies in order to make it seem like you're watching a show... DCEU released one origin story after BvS which sparked the collab movie Justice League. But no other origin stories for the other members beforehand. They want to compete and catch up to Marvel so badly that it is a huge entertainment turn off. They can still salvage what they're doing by putting some type of order in these planned creations, but they'll lose the general audience with this type of convoluted timeline. However... I am hyped for Wonder Woman 2, Black Atom and the Joker Origins. :)

They said Batman vs Superman was supposed to be a 2 part movie with a Batman movie staring affleck to come out prior to both and then they fast tracked everything decided to cut the Batman movie and then squeeze 2 movies together to play catch up. Really is a shame, because with DC you have staple characters to lean on and then imo way better villains than MU. Darker story telling as well. If DC decided to release a bunch of pg 13/17 and rated R movies with time then they would make some of the best movies to date.

Indirectly, BvS and Justice League, lucky us Weadon save the justice movie changing the fucking color palette and some directions, if you watched the movie compare it with the trailers and the dark knight and you will see why im saying this. I love the dark knight tryilogy but it made think a lot of people (like Snyder) that DC is only dark, emo depressing.

Idea: In the Flash movie (or new Justice League?), the Flash goes back in time because Superman goes evil due to the way they (stupid Justice League) revived him. But he doesn’t get too far back in time; Luther is already president; in the meantime Superman has been in his grave long enough that he comes alive himself (better continuity since on BVS you see dust levitating over his casket), he breaks out of the casket; someone finds him on the side of the road, wearing a suit (he was buried in) and covered in dirt, long beard, he can barely speak; they lay him over some hay in the back of their truck to take him to the hospital, when he looks up he sees a home he recognizes. He rolls or jumps out of the truck, walks with some difficulty, still pretty weak, knocks on the door: it’s Pete at the door. He falls over him. Pete takes Clark to his home. It’s been foreclosed; they can’t get in. Clark asks Pete to help to take him to the shed; below some boxes Clark breaks a wooden floor plank to reveal an artifact (kryptonian...obviously); Clark puts his hand over Pete, and they are teleported to the Fortress of Solitude. (Yep) The rest I don’t know, but the fortress is where he puts on the black suit that helps him regain strength (maybe we can see how Superman shaves his beard? Lol. But, yeah?) also while he’s out because it helps him absorb sunrays even more efficiently; don’t know what other role Pete would have here… all I see from here is Superman in the black suit with Lex wearing an all white suit (maybe coming out of an event?)... just to use it as a take on light to dark... good coming out of the dark, evil that is “light”, in plain in sight...(somehow Lex proved his innocence… He is evil genius after all...) Justice League could be involved or maybe better: this could be the next Superman movie with the Flash in it...I think that would be really cool. And seriously if there are any Hollywood directors or writers reading this, please feel free to copy this idea and just make it bad ass movie please. If you feel any of this is good.
DC just needs to take it one movie at a time, so they can focus on making each individual movie awesome. I think they should stop obsessing over trying to keep up with Marvel. So they can start making quality movies.
I grew up watching all of DC’s comic series and the best part was that they all come to a full circle. The fact that Justice league made its debut at a preemptive stage left DC fans in great confusion especially since not all the characters were separately introduced. I hope the directors learned well from it and know better on their upcoming movies because DC is a relevant comic stature that perfectly coincides with marvel.

Cinematic universes only work when done right. Marvel did it right by giving everything time to get up to speed before properly mixing them together. The Dark Universe was rushed and failed. The DCEU is dancing along a very fine line between success and failure we don't know which way they'll go. It's just a matter of time.

Red Skittles I should have said recent DC movies. The Christopher Nolan movies are amazing. I liked man of steel as well. Old Tim Burton Batman movies are really good too, and probably the first amazing comic book movies. Christopher Reeve Superman movies were good, but not great.

"Evolved Fanboy", the only parts of Marvel that suck are anime and animated movies (They do have a couple of good ones like Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2, and Hulk VS.). They also have some of the best animated series, live-action shows (Daredevil and Jessica Jones alone blow away everything else), comics and games (Marvel games outsell DC's anyway).
Wonder Woman is siiick, one of my favorites, but damn, that Thor Ragnorok was just absolutely outstanding and all the other Marvel movies are right up there.

Justice League has the most overused plot ever to unite a team: random alien invasion one day. How many times has that happened?! The future movies will set things right as you point out. Aquaman will be a standout with the underwater scenes and battles, Flashpoint will have the alternate universe plot, JL 2 might have team vs team battle. I think critics will like what the future holds since the first round was cliched ridden.

The DCEU is already broken based on this film lineup. That is the one thing that Marvel is doing right. They at least have some continuity.
It's insane to me that they are considering a Joker spinoff movie that is not part of the DCEU while still having Jared Leto playing the Joker. Worse yet they are trying to make it some origin crime story focused around the Joker. As Heath Ledger's Joker once said to Batman "You complete me." Without a Batman there really is no joker. DiCaprio would be smart to stay away from this potential dumpster fire.

It feels like DC are too busy trying to catch-up and compete with Marvel, they should have taken their cue from Marvel and concentrated on slowly building their universe, one movie at a time. Each major character should have had at least one or two solo movies before bringing them together for 2 Justice League movies, then they should have continued building some more with solo's for the likes of Shazaam, Constantine and Lantern. Then a third Justice League movie where they introduce the Injustice storyline bringing pretty much the entire DC Universe together.
Because that's the storyline everyone wants to see, they want to see Superman kill Lois, Metropolis get flattened, Joker get his heart ripped out and Superman go completely schizoid and take over the world and the entire DC universe kicking each others ass. Come one DC, pull your fucking head out!

well personally i don't think they need to do that. i'm not saying current movies are better then marvel, one thing they did right is interaction of other superhero in the movies while their solo movies is happening, for example man of steel fight Bruce Wayne was there, in suicide squad also.
The only thing DC needs to do is stop playing catch with marvel.
Playing catch up is exactly what they need to do. By the time the MCU was 5 years in, they'd put out 8 movies, including standalones for 4 different characters, multiple sequels, and the first big Avengers team up. The DCEU is 5 years in now, and they only have 5 films, and only 2 of those are standalones.
The problem is that they are playing catch up the wrong way. They decided Avengers was the goal, so they tried to jump right into the team up movies after Man of Steel. They also had the same guy do every movie except Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad. They're not doing what they need to do to put out movies fast enough, so we don't get the standalone movies to build up the characters, so the team ups feel really forced.
It doesn't help that 60% of the DCEU is directed by Snyder, a guy who thinks that fight scenes in the rain are all you need for good drama.
If they really want to ape Marvel, they need to hire better directors to make better movies (preferably directors that know there are colors other than grey). They need to hire more directors to make the movies faster. And they need to make several standalone films to build up the characters before they make each team up film.
I do hope that these upcoming movies will be good.

MONTY the cinematic universe doesn't even acknowledge the Netflix/ TV shows exist. They are technically the same properties but the relationship is impossibly one sided. The cinematic universe started off with a movie about an indestructible green rage monster, lets you know pretty much right away this isn't a story or group of stories grounded in reality.

Actually he is the producer on DCCU movies like BVS and JL. So he is still working for DC/WB . But he is not a director any more most likely because he does not understand DC characters as his Batman clearly demostrates. Let's say he is not as respected by DC fans as he is with movie goers when it comes to DC flims. He just had a lucky break with Joker , his first movie was almost a flop, the 3rd was terrible saved by Tom's Hardy performance and the huge sucess of 2nd one. Personally I still try to understand his insane casting choice of Catwoman in the 3rd one. H could not pick a more unsuitable actor and make Catwoman more boring even if he tried very hard. Great director though, I am huge fan of Inception and interstellar. The problem is that he excels at realistic looking movies and that would not work for DC Universe movie because there is no way you sell those stories as easily as realistic as he did with his Batman movies.

yes. oh my gosh. The comics are so much darker and that's what's good about them. There's no need to do what marvel is doing. They're great when they're done well and not mashing together story lines and putting in humor where dark intelligent dialect should be. I think them always trying to make the movies pg13 is one of their main flaws. They're constantly trying to grab every last dollar they can by making sure children can see it, and it's losing value. That's the one thing Marvel did right with Logan. They rated it R and we we're so grateful for it. Hopefully DC figures that out sooner than later, because the charters have such depth that it's ashame to watch them go down this preteen friendly path.
you're very right hayley. but remember that the only reason fox/marvel took a chance on making a rated R logan movie was cause of the success of their rated R Deadpool film. So the real risk was taken in making Deadpool rated R. they wouldn't have taken that chance with wolvie due to his popularity, so once they saw the money rolling in for deadpool I assume they were like "if this many are seeing deadpool, imagine wolverine, green light it"

Timo D'orio, so true. Super heroes fight crime, which has a ton of REAL action. In the flash, he’ll fight better or worse against different villains. That’s why the Arrow (in my opinion) is better than all of the other DC shows. Legends of Tomorrow is my least favorite. Sarah kisses someone new every episode. I think leonardo's futur is in playing more evil character. Hes good at it, the joker's voice is particular though. And dicaprio dosent change his voice very often but ill give him a shot as i think he is one of the best actors.

It is really embarassing to be a DCEU fan nowadays. Thor, fucking Thor is getting much better reviews and box office than the holy grail of superheroes Justice League (reviews are subjective, but box office determines the continuity of the characters we love and care about on the big screen)

Don't trust the box office man. According to the box office, Transformers and Avatar are some of the best movies ever made. And to be honest low sales for Justice League probably has more to do with how bad Batman v Superman was.

Dicaprio as Joker will save the DCEU and will probably make him one of the best actors of all time. He already has an amazing line up of classics. A joker film would just cap it off.
Problem with DCEU movies... They're rushed. They have no order. The MCU did it perfectly, with Iron Man being an accidental thing originally meant to merge with a Hulk movie. But they reworked it and made the movies in order to make it seem like you're watching a show... DCEU released one origin story after BvS which sparked the collab movie Justice League. But no other origin stories for the other members beforehand. They want to compete and catch up to Marvel so badly that it is a huge entertainment turn off. They can still salvage what they're doing by putting some type of order in these planned creations, but they'll lose the general audience with this type of convoluted timeline.
However... I am hyped for Wonder Woman 2, Black Atom and the Joker Origins. :)

They said Batman vs Superman was supposed to be a 2 part movie with a Batman movie staring affleck to come out prior to both and then they fast tracked everything decided to cut the Batman movie and then squeeze 2 movies together to play catch up. Really is a shame, because with DC you have staple characters to lean on and then imo way better villains than MU. Darker story telling as well. If DC decided to release a bunch of pg 13/17 and rated R movies with time then they would make some of the best movies to date.

Indirectly, BvS and Justice League, lucky us Weadon save the justice movie changing the fucking color palette and some directions, if you watched the movie compare it with the trailers and the dark knight and you will see why im saying this. I love the dark knight tryilogy but it made think a lot of people (like Snyder) that DC is only dark, emo depressing.
Snyder also fault portraying Batman and Sup , is like if he has read Batman Return and Year One and thought to himself that he is the indicated to do a DC movie and someone had the fucking stupid idead of giving him the direction.

Idea: In the Flash movie (or new Justice League?), the Flash goes back in time because Superman goes evil due to the way they (stupid Justice League) revived him. But he doesn’t get too far back in time; Luther is already president; in the meantime Superman has been in his grave long enough that he comes alive himself (better continuity since on BVS you see dust levitating over his casket), he breaks out of the casket; someone finds him on the side of the road, wearing a suit (he was buried in) and covered in dirt, long beard, he can barely speak; they lay him over some hay in the back of their truck to take him to the hospital, when he looks up he sees a home he recognizes. He rolls or jumps out of the truck, walks with some difficulty, still pretty weak, knocks on the door: it’s Pete at the door. He falls over him. Pete takes Clark to his home. It’s been foreclosed; they can’t get in. Clark asks Pete to help to take him to the shed; below some boxes Clark breaks a wooden floor plank to reveal an artifact (kryptonian...obviously); Clark puts his hand over Pete, and they are teleported to the Fortress of Solitude. (Yep)
The rest I don’t know, but the fortress is where he puts on the black suit that helps him regain strength (maybe we can see how Superman shaves his beard? Lol. But, yeah?) also while he’s out because it helps him absorb sunrays even more efficiently; don’t know what other role Pete would have here… all I see from here is Superman in the black suit with Lex wearing an all white suit (maybe coming out of an event?)... just to use it as a take on light to dark... good coming out of the dark, evil that is “light”, in plain in sight...(somehow Lex proved his innocence… He is evil genius after all...)
Justice League could be involved or maybe better: this could be the next Superman movie with the Flash in it...I think that would be really cool.
And seriously if there are any Hollywood directors or writers reading this, please feel free to copy this idea and just make it bad ass movie please. If you feel any of this is good.

DC just needs to take it one movie at a time, so they can focus on making each individual movie awesome. I think they should stop obsessing over trying to keep up with Marvel. So they can start making quality movies.
I grew up watching all of DC’s comic series and the best part was that they all come to a full circle. The fact that Justice league made its debut at a preemptive stage left DC fans in great confusion especially since not all the characters were separately introduced. I hope the directors learned well from it and know better on their upcoming movies because DC is a relevant comic stature that perfectly coincides with marvel.

Cinematic universes only work when done right. Marvel did it right by giving everything time to get up to speed before properly mixing them together. The Dark Universe was rushed and failed. The DCEU is dancing along a very fine line between success and failure we don't know which way they'll go. It's just a matter of time.

"Evolved Fanboy", the only parts of Marvel that suck are anime and animated movies (They do have a couple of good ones like Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2, and Hulk VS.). They also have some of the best animated series, live-action shows (Daredevil and Jessica Jones alone blow away everything else), comics and games (Marvel games outsell DC's anyway).
