    In Deadlock, they have the Mk I and II Vipers that have specific flavors. Mk I’s are slower but possessed more armor than their Mk II successors, which relied more upon their pilots skill and the ship’s increased maneuverability. The Viper Mk III seems to be an successful attempt combining both attributes, only suffering due to the material shortage occurring at the end of the 1st Cylon War.
    I would love to see a video(s) about Deadlock’s Taipan, what the Mk IV - VI Vipers might have looked like, or all the Cylon basestars in canon and how they evolved from the first to the most recent one.

    I hadn’t considered the atmospheric advantages the Mk.III had over the Mk.II. For the most part, I considered it more of a “strike” variant of the Viper because of the increased carrying capacity for ordnance and the (possibly) greater thrust capacity its larger engines would have offered. By the same token, the added armor would have been necessary to absorb the amount of anti-aircraft fire the Cylons would have thrown at these Vipers because of the more predictable attack paths they would have been required to follow in order to hit certain targets for which fighter-role air/spacecraft would not normally be tasked.

I don't think the idea of Cylons slipping a virus into a fleet wide computer program was anticipated. We're not sure how long the network defenses would hold without that back door allowing them to be bypassed.
      Besides there was no logical reason to expect the Cylons to return at that point. The second war occurred because the Cylons threw all logic out the window.

    X-Wing versus the Viper!

    • @VegetaLF7
      @VegetaLF7 11 месяцев назад

      Depends on the Viper. The reimagined ones might have a slightly higher survivability due to their agility but unless they're the ones with missiles I don't see them effectively punching through X-Wing shielding quickly enough. The original series ones stand a better chance of taking a X-Wing down due to their laser weapons being so similar to the starfighter weapons used in Star Wars, but the lack of shields lower their survivability, making the Vipers basically TIEs without the giant solar panels. Basically the original Vipers have a better chance to kill a X-Wing, the newer Vipers have a better chance at dodging one long enough to maybe get a missile shot off, but none of the Vipers could tank X-Wing shots and expect to survive.

    • @TheAchilles26
      @TheAchilles26 4 года назад +1

      Long story short, unless your fighters are capable of faster than light travel, they're pretty much pointless in space. A carrier launching its fighters an entire star system away from the target, those fighters jumping in and spraying tactical nukes around before jumping back to the system with the carrier, and then the carrier moving on before the enemy could possibly identify the system from which the strike was launched and retaliate is a very different animal from how space superiority fighters are used in Battlestar Galactica or by the Empire in Star Wars (although what I described is pretty solidly the official Rebel Alliance space combat doctrine, albeit with moonbases replacing the carrier)

    • @DrownedInExile
      @DrownedInExile 4 года назад +2

      Nah. Starfighters are cool, but they don't belong in The Expanse. A small unmanned drone-fighter might work. Hard to detect and hit with PDCs. They could be used as spotters for their command ship to deliver precision attacks. Their only armament would be an electronic warfare suite, or perhaps mines that could be laid directly on the enemy ship's hull.

    • @TheAchilles26
      @TheAchilles26 4 года назад

      @@DrownedInExile, um, there's no way those drones would be harder to detect and hit with PDCs than missiles.

    • @DrownedInExile
      @DrownedInExile 4 года назад

      @@TheAchilles26 A missile or torpedo isn't exactly subtle, putting out lots of energy as it races to its target. Perhaps a drone would be mistaken for floating space debris. Unless you get too close, then it rockets up to your hull before you can deploy PDC turrets. But now that I think about it, a drone would only be useful for asymmetric warfare, not a direct fighter. If they were carrying explosives or other weapons, yup they'd be spotted.

      I know, right? It’s pretty sad to hear, especially since Valkyrie’s my favorite. I’ve heard some muttering that one of the devs or loremasters on the game doesn’t think that her being in the first war shouldn’t be or straight up isn’t ‘canon’, hence why it’s not available in campaign. I have no idea if it’s true or not, especially considering the evidence to the contrary is fairly...obvious, but it might also explain some of the more ...questionable (imo) directions that they’ve chosen to pursue lorewise in the first war period.

      Maybe ending up scanning some wrecks that have been floating around for 150k years and get ourselves the blueprints for a juicy Mk2 or Mk7 fighter ^^
      Even better, while scanning we suddenly get a warning for a system intrusion and everything just shuts down (like with the Thargoid hyperdictions), except we now have a face-to-face with a Raider. We get that red scanning light, then there is another flash of light comming from the player (implying the player is a descendand of Hera) and the Raider just turns around and leaves ^^

    Didn't Battlestar Galactica Deadlock Ghost Fleet Offensive kinda retcon the Mk III out of existence by not featuring them? I'd make their durability comparable to the Mk I with slightly faster speed but equal damage to the Mk II. And have them be very pricey (3 times the Fleet points of the other specialized Support Craft like Assault Raptors).

    • @Duncecap64
      @Duncecap64 4 года назад +11

      I dont think this is so much a Retcon as much as it was simply a hard issue in terms of the campaigns balance and design. in the Campaign even on higher difficulties the MK II Vipers are already very effective VS Groups of raiders and can easily tear them asunder in the MP as well hence why most raider groups in MP tend to keep at an arms length till the Vipers are weakened or support from friendly captials like the Revenants or Cerestes can rip into them. They are quite dangerous enough on their own they dont need more to make them stand out and the MK III would have quite a tough stat line to balance out compared to the MKII. Just because it wasnt included as DLC as part of Ghost Fleet Offensive doesnt mean it got retconed as both were approved by the production company to be part of the same universe, just there may have been other reasons for its lack of inclustion.

They've done it only with Vipers which is a shame. Pilots from the "modern" Galactica wear virtually the same uniforms, flight suits as their counterparts from a war that was fought 50 years before them. Like imagine soliders in 1990s having the same uniforms as those from ww2. Would be more interesting if cylon war era pilots wear uniforms and suits resembling those from og series, as well as helmets. Colonial commanders wearing the same capes as og Adama. Hell, even Galactica could had white coating, that either degreded from colonial war to darker colors or being just repainted. That would give a nice touch.
