Thanks Jason, just switched out one of my back windows with a pop out window from the same Ebay seller you used. He was a very fast shipper and communication was good. Also instead of sanding, I decided to try both Goo Gone and Goof Off products to remove the adhesive residue. Goo Gone was way better than Goof Off. Just make sure you have plenty of paper towels. But this method allowed me to keep the factory paint. Thanks again Jason for this post! Even though it is two years old it is still giving the community value! Now if I can only find a window delete kit for the other rear window on my Econoline...

Hi Jason, it’s been 2 years since you posted this video and I’d like to say thanks. I purchased 3 windows (2 back- left and right and one side door- smaller one) from the same eBay seller. The items came quick and I’m impressed with how the windows were packed, complete with the hardware and window seal. Your video gave me confidence to do all 3 windows in 7 hrs. Cleaning the old black residue took awhile. Thanks again.

Thanks! I just finished my 2004. At salvage yard I forgot the backing plates for the latches, I had to go with nuts.
My additions to your informative video
use plastic tools, plastic putty knife, avoid scratching the paint
    no metal scrapers needed
The door doesn’t need immaculate cleaning. After scraping majority of old seal. An acetone-wetted rag will rub off small seal remnants enough so it won’t interfere with new seal.
Wear gloves. My old seal was difficult to remove (a sticky rubber paste) from doors, clothes, and skin. Acetone worked for me.

When I had my van I swapped out my fixed glasses for pop out glass but eventually modified my window to swing almost a full 90 degrees with a prop rod and the factory latch still works. I used my factory glass and it had 5% tint because it was a work van that didn’t have the factory steel cover. I did have a window AC mounted in the drivers side rear window before I mounted an RV rooftop heater/ac combo. I also had a 5 kw 240v inverter on my van and installed a second battery behind the passenger headlight. I had the ambulance prep package on mine so it had a 370A alternator. Had to replace the smog pump with an idler pulley from Summit. I had a 96 E350 with a 5.8 and F350 rear axle and front axle and suspension.

Right to the point, step by step, gives me a lot more confidence than me alone swearing at the shattered glass 🍷🥂 all over the ground etc...
The seal seems rather thin, narrow, for the seal - that's just me.
Also, should I have them tinted before installing them?

I really would like to have rear windows that open in my Econoline conversion van.
I had those in my Dev Express conversion, and it's nice.
Kind of claustrophobic without windows that open. The side windows are practically worthless.

    HI JASON 👋
WHEN I HAD MINE THEY'RE REALLY NICE , BUT DON'T HAVE THEM OPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR BACK ROADS . WITH THE AIR COMING FROM OVER THE TOP OF THE VAN & FROM UNDER THE VAN ALL THE DUST / DIRT FLOATING AROUND IN THE BACK OF THE VAN WILL END UP INSIDE ALL OVER THE VAN . EVEN WITH CURTAINS UP !

Tnx for sharing- nice work. I am a bit surprised by the installation sticky tape I expected something more substantial, like these thick rubber glue type of thing that comes out of a tube on a pressure gun. Like they use to fix permanent car windows. I wonder how it will last in the cold, heat, dust, moisture and vibrations. Let’s hope that it does but would be interested on a longer term update on this and the make of the tape.

I learned to drive on a 1971 Ford Econoline with the blunt nose of the era. It had the flip-out windows in the rear and I'd sometimes get the whiff of leaded (!) gas exhaust as I drove. Rarely used those windows while moving.

To remove the frames in a yard just take a flat head wedge it in and slowly twist and brake loose don't force it too much. Also remember to not over tighten the nuts the studs are only in plastic. Had to change the the frame on my big opening window because some stripped out the bolts. Same process for the side door windows

Just nabbed a set from a local junkyard myself. Butyl for the frame to body (3M makes a window seal butyl that is highly recommended), but I’m having a difficult time finding the appropriate bulb seal that goes between frame and glass with the adhesive backing. I understand you bought this as a kit, but did you happen to see any identifying numbers on the bulb seal you used? I’ve yet to install mine, but would love to give that frame to glass seal a refresh on the bench rather than run into leaks later only to remove it all again. Thanks man, love your content.

  • @SpecVans
    @SpecVans 3 года назад

...actually after rewatching... it didn’t appear you replaced the frame to glass seal, just the frame to body. Curious how that turns out in terms of leaks, most suggest using “3M windo-weld” for the frame to body (essentially it’s a high quality butyl) but it appears you were provided with a bulb type seal. Nonetheless I would still be interested in looking into the build seal you used frame to body, as it appears to be very similar to the seal used on the frame to glass. Wondering if it may be the correct fit for my needs.

I done this too all my vans... Let me give you some advise..Do not let that window edge touch the ground. It will shatter into a million pieces..Why I duct tape the edges. Then put duct tape across the and down.. Till it is in... And always assemble the whole thing on the bench first.. Then install it. As I broke two before...
I might add. They make a 12volt fan. That fits in the bottom part. Across the whole bottom...It pops in once the window is open. It has 4 little fans that help pull in or exhaust air..
