Sawadicap, sabai di mai? wow.. i was shocked when you said "Spanakopita" ( from Greek Word Spanaki - spinach and pita - pie) .. and not spinach pie.... with a perfect accent and i thought that i was listening to a Greek woman! 5555555 :) thank you for your lovevly recipes.. i have made many of your dishes and it's amazing. today i did the hot chicken and i love it:) tomorrow i will make your curry puffs. greetings from Cyprus.
Hi, Pai. The word "Karee" or "Kari" is a Indian dialet for curry. So a Thai would understand this food as curry puff. It happened to sound like a Thai slang for unscrupulous working girl. I enjoyed Thai variety of Karee Puff , which mainly made from regional pastries. We will try your recipe. Thanks.
Ms. Pailin, Enjoyed your video. It's a good video, explanation was very clear and instruction were clear. Your personality was very lovely. You should think about doing this professionally in American Cooking shows like Cooking Channel. You cooked well and speak very well. I could tell that you were either born here or came to the US when you were a child. Thanks for your video. Using egg roll skins are clever and creative. Keep up the good work. Thanks
The answer depends on what is Thai according to you. The title stated that it "Thai-style" samosa. This is one. Second and I've seen many foreigners misunderstood soe hope you don't mind my explain. TH does not comprised of an ethnics. It has a lot of people from other lands who came to trade and later settled since centuries ago it even said that you could not find pure Siam anymore. Chinese, Indian, Shan people in the north, Sub-group of Tai ethnic like Tai-Lue, Tai-Yuan or Tai-Yonok, Karen, Mon, Myanmar, Malayu people, even western and Persian. This happened long before the concept of country as we see today exist. These people also bring their own culture and they mixed with local, same with people. That why Thai also have samosa. It comes with Indian who come to live here. If you said that it's from Indian so it's not thai, with the same logic you could also said that all dishes with cheese and many more ingredients eg.potato, wine, beer, tomato, etc. are not Western since these ingredients also come from other culture.
It is nearly impossible to find a white fleshed sweet potato here on the East Coast of America in New England. I am in Maine so I don't have a big city like Boston. I live in the biggest City Portland. My friends from Djibouti make the same thing and call it sambusa. It tastes like an Indian samosa. So my caregiver made me 40 vegetable ones with potatoes and peas and other vegetables that I like and then we cook them in the air fryer and they came out brown and crunchy and beautiful! The remainder were frozen uncooked and I put them in the air fryer and make a salad and that's my supper when I don't have anything ready to eat. Let me tell you those sambusas do not have subtle Heat they go from almost no heat to I'm going to blow your face off hot! I had my kid give her make mine with a nice degree of warmth because I don't always want heavy heat in my food every time I want to eat these.
I like how you explained the slang implication of the names it’s important to know these as someone not familiar to the culture. But I would’ve expected you to make the dough from scratch and making them puffier
Sawadee Khap Pailin. You may use 150 gram of water would reach the scorched stained on your wok, mix 150 gram of vinegar. Leave it overnight or 24 hours, will be easier to scrub off the black stained. It's easy, I used this way to clean mine.
Hi... Love love watching your channel. You make cooking Thai food a breeze😊 Can you tell me where you got the brass utensil for frying the samosas from.... it’s really good.... thanks.
Hi why does egg roll wrappers break when seperating the sheets? I left it in the fridge for a couple of days before using them and when i used them, half of the packets gone to waste as the sheets were breaking... any idea why that would happen?
i have to make lots of samoosas indian and looking for easy pastry do you think momo wrappers will be better then springroll wrappers?what to get that workd best that is ready made pastry?
I like the « simplisme » of your recipes, thank you so much. By the way, i live in france, i cannot find cilantro here , can i remplace cilantro by lime zest? Bernie
What brand of spring roll wrappers do you use? I tried using rice spring roll wrappers, but I think I didn't roll it tight enough and it bubbled up and didn't crisp very well when frying even at the recommended temperature
Thank you for this recipe. I am going to make it ,but i want to try it with Rice paper ,the kind you use for Vietamese Spring rolls. I love the texture of the rice wrappers ,and they are gluten free .

Can we use all the same ingredients but this time use turmeric instead of curry?
I suppose the pairing would be even better with ground beef and potato.
Pai, can one assemble these, refrigerate them and fry them hours later after guests arrive?
I love the fact that you used sweet potato instead of potato. I have a question- do you reuse the oil that you used for frying the puffs?
