Probably the biggest issue with the WiFi power strip is that it is a 'dumb" device. If your WiFi goes down but the power is on the power strip will continue to operate as per its last command from the collective. If something turns on and the WiFi goes down, it'll stay on until the WiFi tells it to turn off. The XP8, on the other hand, is a "smart" device. If the WiFi goes down it will continue to turn things on and off as per schedules regardless of a signal.

I'm hoping this gets improved. It's by far their most unreliable product. I understand it should not have anything critical on it, and most follow this rule. But it will consistently drop out and show red icons for devices attached. This is a known issue, and wide spread. Just be aware.

It’s not an issue. It’s an issue for the few that complain the loudest as they think they have a good WiFi network, but also don’t read the directions. Most devices don’t tell you when their WiFi drops so it gives people a false sense about their network. This device will show whether or not you have a good network. You just need to have a dedicated 2.4 ghz network. You can’t use 5ghz with it. There are routers out there which switch between the two bands which is when there will be a disconnect. Also, mesh networks are not recommended due to those issues. Access points are recommended if you don’t have the router near your tank. I literally have 5 WiFi bars running for over 3 years now with no drops. It boils down to this…good network? No issue. If you don’t have a good network, then just get an XP8. Problem solved.

This sounds more like your WiFi systems has issues. I have units that may have dropped signal 3 times in the last 1.5yrs. If you do not have a WiFi network properly setup then you will have issues.

@@djmikefury1 indeed, if have a bad network then instead of getting a $40 Hydros power strip, get a $280 XP8. I can see no issues with that...

@@jp_2196 Even the guys who work for Hydros acknowledge that you should never put anything critical on the wifi strip.

This and their WiFi feeder are super unreliable. Everything else is great.

Wifi power strip is junk love hydros but the wifi power strip dont waste your money. Get the xp8 and save you getting headaches from the wifi power strip dropping out from time to time that is not good.
