thanks for the tips bro..I been in this rap game since 1996 and im loving this channel. Great inspiration..I can't wait to keep growing and build a bigger fan base and subscribers
you're right about recording what you write. you'll forget and lose it forever if you don't record. flow like you talk? hmmm it depends what style of flow you're tryin to make. i try to flow in the old 90s hiphouse rap flow mixed with other rappers. you're also right about imagining your voice as a percussion instrument- not only must it go on beat but it must fit the rhythm's composition - not just flow anywhere. and yes accounting the breathing when you write is important. but i've also learned that if you can hear it in your mind - you can perform it with your mouth it just takes a lot trial and errors and little by little knowing where to breathe in and out goes as your perform it over and over. i bought my rhyming dictionary when i was 18 and yes it is a very useful tool that i still use but i find them lacking in the way they structured the book. for example hat and cat rhyme in the book but pack and rat are in different sections of the book so i made my own rhyming dictionary 10 years ago. damn you wrote 48 songs in one month with only 6 hours a day?? i wish i could make that much in a month. my problem is i rarely like what i make so i lag when i've made so much and feel like either i want to erase a lot or start over on a new song and in between it's a lot of harsh self criticism which also slows me down. I have a question for you smart rapper-- if you were to write a specific rhythm first, for the flow of your rap, and after filled it in with words, don't you think it would be very difficult to throw in punchlines as well and make the punch come out at the right time in the rhythm. i rarely get lucky like that. if you can do this please make a video showing how you do this. My main thing is flowing with complex music composition and i haven't been able to throw the punchlines that much because i write over rhythm that i hear in my head first as i hear the music. i really appreciate your insight.
I give it up to him, he made a great catalog off the most common sense information... This is for someone who just decided to make music but has never made it before
Good technique when you run into writer's block is to try what I call a rhyme tree... Say you got a dope bar and you get stuck with connecting the next following bar, just go head and take the main end rhyming word or phrase in your scheme. Forget focusing on the actual full bar at this point. Just focus on the syllables and sound of your rhyme and make a "tree" branching off Into as many rhymes as you can come up with that match. Once you got a good amount of unique rhymes you can browse through them and start using the best ones to craft full bars with when possible. Usually just doing this exercise will help jog your creativity and get your ideas flowing again, even if you dont use all or most of the rhymes that you branch off. Example: The first bar: Ya better mention me when ya mention the greats/ Benjamin's face Pendulum sways Penne on my plate Better with age Venomous snakes Selling em weight Tell by the taste Them margielas is fake Get head on a date Gelatin shape Pelican steak You dont have to do the full multisyllablic rhymes, you can break it into each word of the phrase to rhyme individually then develop the phrases until you're able to easily craft multis. Have fun with it. The rhymes in your tree dont even have to make sense at first, just see how many rhymes and slant rhymes you can come up with. It will greatly improve your writing skills especially if you do it as a regular drill, but it can always be busted out in emergencies when you start getting writers block in the middle of creating a verse. Reply with some bars y'all can come up with using this method to follow up my example bar. Use the tree I started to help.
