Good video and detecting the cause.
I had a quick power surge today and heard AC Compressor making loud roaring noise and seemed struggling. With neighbors advice, I turned off unit for 5 minutes and turned back on and all is well. He explained as you, When a scroll compressor shuts off, the refrigerant pressure causes the scroll component to run backwards. If power returns too soon while scroll is still turning backwards, the compressor will restart in the reverse direction

Did you fix the problem? I’m kind of doing the same thing shut it down and turn it back on after 10 min. Called service company and they suggested to install a surge protector. How did you solve yours? Thank you

Surge protector is always good to have reach out to your electrical company and see if the offer a surge protector at the meter, but you probably need a time delay on break , so if power goes out the outdoor unit will wait 5 minutes until it start back up you can also add that feature on the thermostat depending on the thermostat

Found my unit running backwards after noticing the house was not cooling very well. Condenser fan running backwards and a lot of heat coming out of the unit. Shut it down and did a restart and everything was ok. After a storm same thing happened. I replaced the capacitor, but the unit did it again. The unit is not a heat pump.
Looks like you need a time delay switch on the out door unit or check if your thermostat time delay is on
Is there a technical name for why the compressor reverses
For the compressor to stop runs backwards so if you apply power while is stopping it will run backwards
@coldflashac6443 would a hardware delay mounted on the ubit have 100% prevented this? My thermostat has an electronic delay but it didn't help.
Your explanation of why it is running backwards, doesn’t make sense. I have seen them run backwards after power surge. The solution is to change the position of L1 and L2 at the input side of the contactor. I have only seen this anomaly once after a power surge.
Changing legs wont do anything only on 3 phase motors
Go to your ac unit and trip the water safety switch and let go after half a second and let me know what your compressor does if you dont have a timer delay switch or your thermostat dont have a time delay

@@coldflashac6443 acuity I found a few cases of Bad smell in indoor unit. Initially when unit start there is a bad smell in room but it’s gone after outdoor start. All units are brand new (fujitsu General brand). Problem resolved after evaporator coil replacement but can’t understand what the issue with coil.
@@powerliftingthehouseofpain4966 could be biological growth inside the inside unit , try adding a uv light
