- Today we'll learn how to trade futures on the thinkorswim desktop platform.
Trading futures can be a bit intimidating when you first get started. They’re crazy leveraged, can move incredibly fast, and are honestly not something most people should even consider trading. However, if you’re watching this ill assume you’re aware of all that, have decided they make sense for you and are now just trying to figure out how to actually trade futures in thinkorswim and how to setup and customize your platform.
So that’s exactly what we’ll cover today, going through the actual process of placing trades, adding custom scripts to use as quick references for different contracts, and some ways to setup the platform to be more conducive for futures trading.

Is there a reason my margin requires for nq is a lot lower than mnq? It seems like it should be the other way around!

HI quick question When you have a small account let’s say 3k do you get your buy power back immediately after you close a futures trading position or do you have to wait until the next day like option contracts?
On my thinkorswim I'm approved for futures but when I try to paper trade it I'm unable?
How to simply place a Buy Call or Sell Put using Active Trader when trading /ES for example. The method should be the same for Sell Calls and Buy Puts.

Super Video on the subject. Looking forward to seeing the other Videos of Futures Trading using TOS. I'd like to know when you place the trade before Sending it, is there some way to see "Max Loss" and "Max Profit" as you can with TOS when trading Options. Thanks!

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. Do futures work the same as option in terms of Buy to Open to cap risk? vs selling to open? It sounds like I have to "sell" to go short with options.
Would you still recommend TOS since they sold to Charles Schwab?

Just be careful, super leveraged. So learn as much as possible before diving in and start small

Question, how do you feel about the fees to trade futures with TD? I'm trying to decide if it's really worth it. Leaning towards it's not. Pretty much all of the competition has lower round trip fees, some are much lower. Sucks because TOS is what I've been using to trade options for a while now,. Think I'm gonna go with tradovate, and use ToS charts so it'll be cool if you can cover that platform in the...future.
They’re way more expensive then everyone else, but I don’t trade enough contracts where it really has an impact on me. Plus I like 99% of everything else on there, so it really doesn’t make sense for me to move any real money over just for futures. But they’re definitely wayyy more expensive than everyone else

Other platforms you have to pay for data monthly,and other features, that the ToS have for free, so I guess that's where it's supposed to even out.

Your initial margin requirements are lower than what mine shows on TOS.. Do they have different amounts for different people..? Looks like it.. My /MYM is $ 1300... yours is $825.00

would we be able to make this type of layout for futures on ibkr? i like tos but the commissions per contract is expensive. looking to change over to ibkr but the broker/layout is a bit difficult to navigate. any info would be great. but as always great video!

I believe the initial margin req is about $15,000 right now. Intra-day being about half of that

Essentially the same, I just had two different colors and abbreviated the label to make it smaller
Micros only newbies trade well futures is the way don’t let anyone stop you
