Futures are certainly not for everyone, and honestly the majority of you watching this probably shouldn’t even be considering it. They’re are incredibly leveraged, are not standardized from one to the next, and have specific dates they expire, meaning you can yourself in a lot of trouble if you’re not being careful.
Today we'll go over the active trader and how it can be used to place your trades much more quickly. We'll also be adding a futures script to quickly view the futures tick size, tick value, and notional risk.

Thanks so much for sharing this thinkscript link!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many Thanks! 😃👍
shortthestrike is a great educator. He moves immediately to the lesson material. Well prepared and no corrections or retractions as he moves through the lesson. I appreciate that he does not franically cause the pointer to dance all of the page, and does not flip back and forth the pages. Excellent work.
Thank you for taking the time to make this! So helpful. TOS can be a pain to figure out sometimes.
This was super helpful, easy to understand, caring to explain details, straight to the point! Thank you for passing the knowledge down, keep up the work! ♥️
This was incredibly helpful. I trade /mnq and /mes from time to time. I had no idea how to set this up. I struggle with TOS, but you made it understandable. Much appreciated.
Hope it helps!
That futures script comes in very handy. Thanks for sharing!

Meticulously elucidated thank you!
Thanks this video was helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very helpful video.
how are the fees for futures on tos compared to other platforms?
For some reason this URL isn't accepted by TOS when I try to copy it into Open shared item
What if I bought 10 contracts and wanted to sell 5 and let 5 run...how can I do that on the active trader? Do you have a video for that?
That’s just called scaling out. Just put the number you would like to take out, obviously it would be lower than the total position you had. Then the remainder will still be in leaving you with what you have left = what you’ve taken out - what you had in.
how do i add or create that futures think script?
its the pinned comment
what I am confused on is the cost per contract. They cost 11k? is there a cheap way to trade futures?
That would be the initial margin requirement. But its because you're technically controlling over 200,000 of the S&P 500 with that one contract, so they're incredibly leveraged.
If you want to start smaller you could look at the micros, which are essentially just a 1/10th the size. /ES would be /MES, /NQ would be /MNQ, etc..
Crude oil, every penny move = $10. You did not explain how you knew that. Thanks : )
Thank you, bad ss
futures have points (not dollars) and ticks, each worth a number of dollars
I can’t acesss the futures study
My Thinkorswim does not have a futures in the studies.
You'll need to add it to your platform. It's a custom script to display the tick size and tick value. I've got the link and script on my website here: shortthestrike.com/best-futures-thinkscript-for-thinkorswim/
