I’ve been playing golf for 13 brutal, inconsistent months. Was ready to quit because I just couldn’t get it right. This video completely transformed my game in ONE range session. Absolutely astounding what tucking my elbow in accomplished. Thank you, Eric and Tom, for taking me from Bud Light to the Land of Milk and Honey!
Fantastic to hear this!! Appreciate you being here with us!
Where was this video 15 years ago? Literally wasted my whole golf career until today. Forever grateful. Never knew about this. Thank you!
:)
This is a combo meal of crispy contact. Love this team up boys. Great tips and insights.
:) Thank you, Chris!
I have been an on/off golfer for 35 years. This tip plus keeping right wrist extension and rotating open more at impact to square the face has transformed my game. I feel as though I’m starting anew! Thanks guys, love both your channels.
Love to hear this Jamie! Appreciate your support my friend!
After years of looking for the HOW TO keep my right elbow tucked I finally found the video that clearly explains it starts with the set up. I was tying myself up trying to keep my right elbow tucked without putting my right hand in a stronger position at the set up. My distances increased beyond my expectations. I could not believe it was my ball I found on the fairway. By the way I am 70 years old and finally found happiness with my golf swing. THANK YOU
Love to hear that Raymond! Hope this one helps ya....similar one here you may like:

These two Italian Stallions are awesome together. Tucking that right elbow was probably the most important thing I learned last year & it's VERY important on the downswing too. I never realized till this past golf season how important the set-up & takeaway is. Now I pull my right shoulder & hip back, tuck my right elbow & take the club what feels like way out on the takeaway, but isn't, & from there try to maintain a smooth tempo & with the right elbow tucked on the downswing I am hitting more from the inside than over the top. BIG DIFFERENCE! The downswing feels like I'm going way to the right, but I'm not. Thanks guys, you both rock!
Thank you very much!! Appreciate you watching!
I found a video advocating this when chipping. It really enhances chipping body and arm connection. Natural to apply this to the full swing.
I like it!
Tom may make it seem like this is the end all but I’m here to tell you that he’s right. This one thing has improve my ball striking by 100 fold. It really is amazing how something seemingly so simple can be so powerful. Kudos to Eric for having Tom in some of his videos.
Love it, Ryan! Thanks so much for being here with us!
one of the best golf tips of all time! solves many problems in the golfswing within 10 seconds !
Love it, Steph!
What a fantastic segment. Even after 1 year ago this video aged well. This is one of the best segments and collaborations you have done with another golfer Eric. Good on you 👍
Thanks Tony! Appreciate ya
As great as you two are in your own rights, when you guys get together, you make magic. Love it. Thanks!
Thank you, Mark! Really appreciate it!
I tried this and it put the distance from my ball at address a lot closer. It hit a few in my net and felt that nice feel of compressing the ball. I think this has fixed my ball position and keeps me on plane. I glad I found your channel and Tom's!
Great to hear! Appreciate you being with us!
When the trail humorous is rotated clockwise to the golfer the elbow will tuck naturally. This insures the elbow to lead the way back to the ball. It also gives the player a better chance to allow the trail elbow to travel on its 45 degree ( path/ angle ) away and back to the strike zone. It's locked in to make it simple. To lock in the lead arm/elbow, the snuff box on the lead hand must be placed to the right side of the grip/shaft. This is what I referenced to and have named the Tennessee Triangle Grip. Always watch you two gentlemen and enjoy your information, some of the best on the game as can be seen on RUclips. Thanks guys!!!
Appreciate your support! Thanks so much for watching the channel!
I struggle when my grip gets SUPER weak. I’ve been working on strengthening my grip and this is the exact feeling I came across with a stronger grip. My take is it’s almost impossible to keep that right arm tucked with a very weak grip. Thank you for ALL of your AMAZING content. I’ve been around the game for 40+ years and your delivery of knowledge is the best I’ve personally seen!
100%!
thank you---I appreciate those kind words!
You may like this one as well...getting the right elbow more down and forward at setup (externally rotated) will go nicely with a stronger right hand grip (and making sure the trail shoulder goes back)

I've been learning how to golf for 6 months and struggling. Eric's 15 degree elbow bend videos (not just the supination part) and this one with Tom are absolutely must watch videos and have changed my entire approach and improved my enjoyment of the game tremendously.
Happy to hear this Chris! Love it!
This is similar to Jimmy Ballard's teaching of pointing the elbow down throughout the swing, Eric and Tom did an excellent job of showing the position of the elbow, I love that part of only having one swing thought. Big Thumbs Up
Love it! Thanks, Peter!
I keep coming back to both of you guys videos. The pieces have all started to come together and my distance and dispersion have i proved drastically since August when I started playing again after almost 18 years. Now I can hit way less balls before a round to find my swing. Thanks gentlemen.
Love to hear this, Dan!
Love the video! I see a lot of negative comments about it which really surprised me. I tried this and have been playing really well. My only guess on why so many people dislike this is because they are golfers that do not play and practice regularly and have other issues with their swing. I am a 3 handicap so I have a solid swing. And something like this to focus on and use as my one swing thought has helped me consistently make better contact with my irons and especially my driver, which is usually the weakness of my game,
but has been much better with this.
👊
Thanks Jack! Glad this one helped!
Good video guys. For me the main advantage of tucking Right elbow in is the positive effect it has on maintaining the radius of the swing. Particularly helpful for pitching and chipping.
Thank you, Harold!
This really worked. I know from a lesson that I had a chicken wing but didn’t have a solution until I watched this video. Tucking in the elbow really works. I’ve only played twice since viewing the video but I definitely see an improvement. I have a long way to go but at least I have a path.
Great to hear! :)
Fantastic explanation. Wouldn’t expect anything less from either of these guys.
Thank you very much, Joey!
I do this and have for years but after hearing all the "keep your hands away from your body" advice I kinda shied away from it. I started trying to extend back with both arms a bit on my back swing. Glad to see this video re-enforce my tight elbow. Thanks, guys!
Our pleasure, Raymond!
That’s my problem. After i tuck or keep my elbow closer to my body n keep it lower than my arm pit then i hit the ball more solid n more straight. Thank you. You guys save me from think about quit golf lol. No, not kidding 🙏🙏❤
Love to hear that---keep on it---I have faith in ya :)
@@CogornoGolf thank you
Very helpful! Thanks Eric for having crispy Tom on to share this move! Great swing Eric! 👍🇨🇦
Thank you, Anthony!!👊
That's the best sound I've heard in any of your videos at impact...
👊🏼👊🏼
Thanks guys! Took this tip to the GC today. Best golf I have played in months.
Love to hear that, Skip!
Tom & Eric are both Italians so they can teach in an affable & charming way. This bit of information is critical because the golf swing is more or less like a circle or an ellipse. A circle has one radius, but an ellipse has two. Keeping it real, the tucked right elbow defines the backswing and the downswing. If you rotate the right arm so that the elbow points at your liver at address & keep it that way, you will have a consistent arc like Ben Hogan did. For those of you who like Geometry, the left elbow bends and the right straightens about 30 degrees after the ball is struck, and the bending left elbow & the straight right elbow define another circle. Refer to 6:30 of Eric's video.
Two radii, some distance between them & you have described an ellipse. If your mind just turned to moist oatmeal, go review 6:30/10:59 & remember, the right elbow is the center of the backswing/downswing circle. Keep that relationship steady; don't chicken wing it out.
Lol love it
This really helped! I used this along with what Dechambeau does with his arms at setup and wow! One of the last pieces of the puzzle for me, thank you. I'm driving consistently farther than ever before. My club head speed is inching up every few sessions. Thank you both, I watch both your channels.
Love it!! Appreciate the support!
This is one good old school tips...both of u make great coaches...
Thank you very much!
Cracking video. Just 1 question should the right elbow touch your rib cage /abbs. Or do you still keep a space between the ebow and the body at set up? Thanks
Thanks Ian! Having the trail arm/elbow about 3" from the ribcage at the setup is a great place to start👍
Here's a video on the trail arm you may enjoy!
ruclips.net/video/MoFpoDxYF9M/видео.html
@@CogornoGolf Hi Eric thanks for the reply
And the video for a better understanding. 👍 Love the work you do. ⛳
“Must be tucked during the downswing - non-negotiable”. Great way to summarize Eric. To be so tucked in backswing may limit power for some.
Yes!
I totally agree and I am always trying to tuck my right elbow. One thing is I am not sure about whether (or there is no difference, but I feel that there is) on setup first tuck and then grip or grip and then tuck?
Hey Darius!
No right or wrong necessarily here...but the safest way to ensure a neutral to strong trail hand grip is to "tuck"/externally rotate the trail arm BEFORE you grip the club👍
If you grip the club with an internally rotated trail arm, the trail hand grip would tend to be too weak.
Hope this helps!
Thanks fellas for confirming my thoughts on the right elbow great video
Thanks Mark! Our pleasure!
The right elbow pit out and behind the left arm (looking from behind the player) helped a lot. What pushed me over the top though, was keeping that right elbow pit close to my rib cage throughout the turn back and through. I think that’s what they mean by keeping it tucked, but for some reason that wasn’t registering in my brain.
Yes!
Tucking the right elbow. The magic move. Love it
Hope it helps Steve!
Critical position in golf. Great video and collaboration. Love Saguto ⚔️
:) Thank you!!
Dang Tom and Eric. Golf instructions that gets you krispiest results.
:)
This is amazing! Thank you guys for another slammer of a tutorial, so appreciated!
Our pleasure! Appreciate you watching the channel!
Thanks for the video guys! I'll be practicing this on the range before I tee off today! Hoping to break 90!
I have faith in ya!
Great video as always, Eric. This is my major flaw. I’ve been standing up on the ball at impact and releasing too soon for 30 years. Is it reasonable to keep the right elbow tucked until I hear the club contact the ball and then I fully release it? I guess I’m looking for a cue to know when to release the club. You’re the best! Thanks!
Thanks Kevin!
I just spent an hour in the garage hitting into a net. It took a little while to get used to the tuck but after some time I could start to feel comfortable with it. Even felt a little more power from the right arm with this. Do you recommend this for driver? I would love to see a session about right arm tuck with driver.
Awesome! You CAN do same thing with Driver--yep! Driver need setup changes and head more back (tilt) and extension through the ball
I tried this a bit on the course the other day and had some mixed results. For some shots, it seemed like it clicked and I made a few of the most solid, neutral-flight iron shots I have had in a long time. A lot of times though, I would make good contact but ended up pulling it way left. Would that maybe be because I wasn't rotating enough with the body? And also, with this feel of "constantly tucking", is it ever an issue getting "enough" of a backswing? It feels like it restricts how far I can take the club back (but maybe that's a good thing).
Hey! Its REALLY hard to say and give you a good answer here without seeing your swing. Its a good question but I would just be guessing too much without seeing.
If you don't get it sorted send swings in to www.cogornogolf.com and we will fix!
Good video should you keep the elbow tucked as long as possible also should you keep the right hand fully extended as long as possible let me know thanks for your help Jack
Thanks Jack!
I think these two videos will answer your questions best my friend!

So I've been trying this and my golf game is incredible now but I also have a lot of trail elbow pain after each session now. What may be causing this?
Hey! Glad to hear of the good results! In terms of the pain---hard for me to say without seeing...I would go see a good physical therapist!
Increasing your tuck during the swing is absolute gold!
Hope it helps your game, Bob!
@@CogornoGolf it certainly has so far. Thanks to you and Tom!
That was one of my favorite videos by u guys, great job on that one, both of u
Thanks, Michael! Always fun with Tom!
Great video guys, this content is awesome 👍
Thanks Scott!!
Beautifully simple. I have to remember not to let my hips extend toward the ball on the downswing, or my elbow gets stuck behind me, even if I keep the elbow tucked.
Thank you! Hope it helps!
Eric, Do you find by keeping the right elbow tucked, that it automatically helps with the swallowing of the golf club as well?
Hey John...."automatically" is rare as that would imply it will do that for everyone....not much if anything automatic in golf swing but I hear your point----it helps, yes!
Eric, is it possible that for some golfers, there could be a physical issue? I mean for me, when i set my elbow facing the sky, my grip is kind if too strong, but when i try to turn it neutral, i know most of people can turn the wrist independently to the forearm, but to me, it seems almost impossible not to turn a bit my skyward right forearm back to the left a bit! Is it normal? It's still facing up, but not as much as you guys! Thanks!
Hey Denis!
Everyone has different ranges of mobility, that's for sure! We'd need to see a video of you to be able to give the best personal feedback and recommendations. Thanks for watching the channel!👊
Love the Eric - Tom team ups
Thanks for the support!👊🏼
Good stuff! If my right arm straightens at impact I hit hooks but if I keep my right elbow close to my body no hooks.
Thanks! Love it!
So how does this square w your driver swing video addressing straight arms for creating width?
The timing is the key.....the trail arm needs to fold in the backswing.....no doubt.....just not too much too early
I go through the AMOUNT of TIMING of the folding of trail arm here: ruclips.net/video/fDkoZCgSItE/видео.html&pp=ygUbRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHJpZ2h0IGFybSBmb2xk
Those are the literal amounts and timing we are looking for.
Eric I keep saying this , your swing is just fantastic
Thanks, Ro!👊🏼
I’m going to be working on this on the range soon. I have a bad over swing in the back swing which causes steep downswing. I think that is why, I haven’t had a tucked elbow
Hope it helps ya!
defiantly helps with my consistency but I noticed I lost a little bit of distance. Ive noticed pro golfers on their take away they don't tuck but when they start their down swing they start to tuck. Would that be a reason why i am losing distance?
Hey there!
Hard to say 100% without seeing your swing on video...we'd simply be guessing too much here. Send us your swings at www.cogornogolf.com so we can do a full analysis and build out a custom practice plan👊
Hope to see ya there!
Love Tom's Tips. great guy and Great video Eric.
100%! Thank you!
Eric, how does it work with driver set up, when trying to hit up on the ball?
Hey Brian! Check out driver vs iron differences here....not much needs to change with trail arm
ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/vj3py9jZ6q8/видео.html
Hey Brian! Responded here yesterday but I think YT not allowing me to comment with links for whatever reason. No change needed for right arm. Search my name and "driver vs iron" to see other changes needed between the two
Interesting tip and never really thought about it at address...first thought is do you feel like you have to adjust/strengthen/weaken right hand grip and feel like would hit some snap hooks at first but might really help 30 yr overswing 🤔
Hey Brian! Yes the more you do that the more it would pair with a slightly stronger right hand grip (which most average players need anywa :) )
Does this same concept apply to the driver? So far I’m loving it with the irons but struggling trying to good this with the driver.
Same general idea
iron vs driver differences here : ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
Amazing stuff guys!!!
Thank you Stephen!
Eric, do you also apply the tucket elbow to chipping and pitching?
You can, Ruud. Dont have to but better to be too tucked than the other way for chipping and pitching
My elbow will not tuck all the way due to surgery. So do I need to change my grip to fix my issue?
would make sure its not too weak
Eric does keeping elbow tucked apply to chipping and pitching also? Thanks! Love seeing you and Tom work together!
It doesnt have to BUT you can with those shots for sure. Better to be too tucked then the other way generally speaking
I have found that my 100 yard in game improved a lot when using this method on all shots. I even putt that way.
Thanks Eric! This is exactly what I've been working on for the last month. It feels like I'm taking the club WAY inside in the takeaway and then coming WAY over the top in the downswing. But when I watch myself on video I am just SLIGHTLY over the top. I'm trying to put your other tip in another video you made about taking the club outside in the takeaway to promote a shallow downswing but it feels almost impossible to do with the trail elbow tucked in at address. Any advice?
Hey AJ!
The club head would go more outside NOT by having the elbow disconnect NOR by the hands going outside....
It goes outside from lack of forearm/shoulder rotation and slight wrist hinge
Check this one out I do through in detail
ruclips.net/video/1B-3OuGTcsM/видео.html
Hey AJ! Thought I responded here but not seeing it for some reason.
The key for what you are talking about is getting the CLUB HEAD outside of your hands.....NOT.....having your hands go out.
Do you apply this swing thought to the hybrids too?
You for sure can Maria!
Tom is the man🏆🏆🏆
Yes he is :)
Excellent video Eric my feel when iam doing this my feel is especially in the downswing that my right elbow gets in front( or leads) of my right hand there for creating more lag 👍🏾
👊Thanks Anthony!
You and Tom are fantastic together. Love it. Another thought for a video….Can you have a high handicapper on and let us watch you work with him or her? I really enjoy watching you coach a bad habit out of a swing. I really enjoyed watching you work with a guy and his club face a while ago.
Thanks, David! Definitely something for us to consider! Would be fun!
I like the feeling of pointing my right elbow at the target from the top of the swing to start my down swing.
That can work!

Eric, great content, always love the different instructors. I thought you were in Pennsylvania when I see this location, filmed during summer ?
Hey Mike! We are in Bethlehem, PA May-Oct and down in Boca Raton, FL for winters!
This was filmed early OCT I believe
Great job guys, so awesome!
Thanks a lot, Ron!
when I do this I feel like i'm not getting as wide as I'd like on the way back and hinging earlier the right wrist earlier. Going back to one of your previous videos with Josh Koch and throwing the club away on the take away - how do you balance keeping width and keeping the right arm tucked?
Hey Anthony!
The reality is you wouldn't balance those two :)
This video good for someone who may have TOO much toss...too disconnected.
That video good for someone TOO tucked/needs more speed.
Got any of these for the club decapitating the neck down the line on the way down ? I struggle so hard to get the club below my neck on the way down, when when it’s shallowing
I would first make sure the backswing is deep enough (butt of club over heel line)
Then I would do this drill for 20-30 reps per day 2-3 days per week for the next 2-3 years
ruclips.net/video/qOQebVaJmOg/видео.html
Here would be another alternative drill to do for next few years
ruclips.net/video/APsIJ4M2oSY/видео.html
That actually works ! Cheers guys 👏
:) You got it!
Does this work with the Driver??
Same general idea
iron vs driver differences here:
ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
Does the elbow tuck also apply to the driver swing?
It can!
I have one of those blue Izzo golf arm bands that are supposed to keep you connected. Instead of letting the bands keep my elbow from separating I try to keep them so close together that there is slack in the bands. Seems to work pretty well.
I like it!
Great iexpert nformation!
Mr. Nicklaus and his flying right elbow?;)
You can get away with it for sure (I do) but it sure makes things more difficult for some who have less practice time/coordination.
So crispy. But buttery, too. Thanks, boys.
👊Our pleasure!
Good tucked right arm naturally causes a strong grip?
Doesnt have to....I like to see the V around the trail collar bone

This is the exact thing my coach is nailing me on right now ...
Hope this helps guide you!!
@@CogornoGolf it's definitely explained in translatable terms - super helpful 👌
Is this for driver too?
Driver vs irons differences here.....same general idea but setup different and head a bit more back in downswing
ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
how do you keep your elbow tucked and create width at the top of the backswing for more power?
Hey Scott!
The right elbow can get slightly farther from ribcage during backswing but then you need to get it back in front
They for the width is the amount of BEND in the trail arm. Less bend (90* ish)at the top is good. If you try you can see you can have your arm bent or more straight both with the arm staying "tucked"
You will like this one: ruclips.net/video/1rXgZHGyFBQ/видео.html
If a good player is stuck, is the elbow usually “too” tucked (i.e. behind the seamline of the shirt)?
That’s Gold gentleman!
Thank you!
I've figured this out by myself w/o this video. Only took me 25yrs! hahaha
:) Better late than never!
how do I know exactly when it's ok to let my right elbow drift a little further away from my body, at the top of my back swing?...thanks
From half way to top...but only a bit
@@CogornoGolf ok...I'll continue to work on it ..........thanks Eric

Love the tip guys
Thank you John!
Wouldn’t the tucked elbow kinda be the opposite of width?
Yep
This also helps with over the top and tempo
