Great video! I do a lot of restorations. I have found the most efficient way to fix this kind of edge is water grind the blade at 90* to get chip less new metal, then add your bevels as desired. Otherwise, the tendency is to place too much attention/time at the chip area and the whole blade shape gets changed if not careful. The method you used worked very well but you are very experienced, a less experienced sharpener would likely have a better chance of good outcome with the 90* method. I always make time to check your new videos, never know when I might snag a new tip or two! Great job, great tips and always a great video! Thank you!
Thanks for pointer- I generally try not to go 90 for repairs but will many times take a much bigger angle maybe 35-45 mostly on belt sharpeners.I know many people do when it's really bad...My reason for not doing 90 is I find i have a lot of thinning to do if I go in at 90 but I totally see what you mean about how someone could over focus on the chips and then end up uneven. All important things to consider as a new sharpener develops their style
Is the Kodiak system available without all of the other attachments as listed on the website? I’d love to buy the tormek adapter and baseplates as pictured in this video but without all,of the other attachments.
I've been working through your videos over the last month and have been focusing on the Tormek with CBN wheels. After watching this video I was wondering if you would recommend the Kodiak system over the Tormek with CBN as my first machine for starting with sharpening?
If you are mostly doing knives get a Tormek if you plan to do lots of wood working tools like chisels then you want to get a Kodiak but most sharpeners do tuns of knives my CBN wheels on the Jet LPG is more of a specialty machine. A Tormek T8 will still do chisels it just takes longer
Good video and much appreciated. Just a head's up,, though, that the links don't all work. At least three of them flash a page saying "page not found."
Thank you so very much for taking the time to make these videos. For us ham and egger knife sharpeners they are very informative. I have a question on your 1x30 with the stropping belt. I your opinion what’s the best speed to strop at ?
Question. I looked at the Tormek add-on to the Kodiak Sharpening System just last week but was confused its lack of height adjustment. When you positioned the cleaver on the wheel you said was pretty much set to go, but what would you do you do if the angle was off? Does the horizontal adjustment on the Kodiak allow you to dial in the angle in the same way that the vertical adjustment does on a Tormek?
That’s part of the system they have a Tormek Guide so you can use Tormek Jigs woodturnerswonders.com/collections/kodiak-sharpening-system/products/kodiak-tormek-style-adapter-jig
Separately they have lots of optional attachments I really want to get the Kodiak Tool Rest for mine I keep meaning to grab that one. In fact Im pretty sure I have a gift card I need to use with them in my email someplace @@madlok9114
@@ALXSHARPEN good to know , but I think I will get some tormek support stands custom made like how knife grinders Australia does it, that system is too expensive
Since he died his stuff is hard to get and unfortunately no Tormek things are cheap the only reasonable stuff IMO is the CBN Wheels for Wood Turners Wonders, but they have become so popular they are often sold out. WTW has sales often so that when I try to get my things from them. @@madlok9114
Hi Paul. I like the Jet machine. With the wider spindle it gives you room to work. I think a brace wide enough to grind both sides without moving it would be nice, but it works like it is. Are those 8 inch wheels? How wide are the wheels you used on it? At the speed you were running I was surprised it took so long to grind.
One nice feature I forgot to point out is the guide bar can go in on either side of the machine so you can grind both edge trailing and edge leading depending on what side you set up on. When on a pedestal mount like I have it on in my shop. I use to have this on a bench but made it harder to use as I had to flip the unit around
Nice job. I've been watching your channel for a while now and not getting into sharpening knives for a living but love knives. I've always hand-sharpened my knives and really thinking about buying a T-8 after seeing a lot of your videos. I literally just bought a T-1 to keep in the kitchen its supposed to arrive Monday I'm hoping I don't regret buying it if I buy the T-8. Question I went to Woodturner to look at their CBN wheels and they're out of all of them is that normal ? Would I be better off with the T-4 Bushcraft they have the wheels for it ? I just don't want to jump the gun if the T-8 is a lot better and can do more with it. Thanks, sorry for the letter.
Tormek will tell you the T8 is for processional sharpening, but I know guys who love the T4 and use it professionally I don't own one so can't say anything about it from personal use. But Tormek doesn't make junk I can say that everything they make is well done. If you want to do it as a business I would say get a T-8 the Spartan wheels from WTW are out at the moment but the Tornado wheels that cost around $345 they do have I can check with my contact and see if he knows when they will get more Spartans in. Not uncommon they run out but the usually get them in on a regular basis.
That would be great if you can find out. I'm not using it for business I just have a lot of expensive knives and want I really good sharpener thats efficient and I can keep all my and my family's knives sharp. Real sharp. Thanks Again. @@ALXSHARPEN

Pretty nice system! Wow! Fast repair.
Thanks!
Cool machine 🙂
It sure is!
JET has a relatively new machine with 3 speeds, lowest is 900 rpm. Im using it with these CBN wheels . Works great. Haven't tried that jig though...
