The ending is one of those that gives space for John to return - the scenarios are endless, throughout the series the assassins know where a fatal wound would be or how to manage it. Winston's final words are "Farewell my son" and seeing that he has John's family symbol tattooed on his hand - Winston might be a proper father to him and hid him. If there is ever a return of John Wick in years to come, it will be the moment when something happens to Winston. At the moment it is better he is assumed dead to keep the legend alive - Its like the ending of Batman Dark Knight Rises.

Winston shot John in JW3 to get the Adjudicator off his back. He shot John’s bulletproof suit knowing he’d survive, and John falling off the building just made it more convincing. None of this is ever implied, but it best explains why John wasn’t vengeful towards Winston in JW4.
The shots taht Cain landed on John were the same wounds that John gave the doctor in chapter 3. The doctor indicated those two places as non fatal wounds.Above the clavical and in the lower left stomach. No way John died from that. We've also seen John get stabbed in the stomach several times in one movie. I think John Wick the legend died since John could get out. They buried the Baba Yaga, but John the man is still alive.
They need to do a Prequel and show us how he actually became john wick, how he started , the impossible task he was giving and killing 3 men in a bar with a pencil! We have to see it. Then show us how he met his wife and how she changed him so much that he wanted to quit.
Something I’d like to point out as well. The fresh marker that Winston gave to John at the end of Chapter 2 was never used in Chapter 3 or 4. A lot of people confuse it with the marker he got from his Library book, but it’s not the same. So perhaps if they ever want to do a Chapter 5 they could do something with that. But then the question is, why would John want to open a fresh marker when he is finally free again? All just ideas and possibilities should they choose, but more likely they just threw that in and forgot about it.
Something got the dogs attention at the grave site when the Bowery King asked Winston whether he thinks John is in heaven or hell. At the same time Winston replies who knows. That is why I believe he is still alive.

I do not believe he is dead. When Winston asked the king if he thought John was in Heaven or hell, the smile and laugh by the king seemed knowing. The reference to Heaven/hell seemed more of an analogy of whether Johns new life away from the assisn life was good or bad for him. Besides, they would make a 5th movie at the drop of a hat, so he needs to be alive for that possibility to happen. Sometimes the heros fake death to disappear. Think Dark Knight rises ending scene.
The only things I was disappointed about is that we never see some old assassins return. For example Cassian, John spared him so I hoped to see him again but he never returned. It's a small complaint but i hope they'll return even if in the spin offs
Cassian can't come so quick after that fatal injury to the heart, Especially that the event of John Wick 3 and 4 takes place just a few days/weeks after the events of John Wick 2

I agree. They are meant to be entertaining and a love letter to spaghetti westerns and martial arts films. They deliver on that and then some. They built a solid world and mythos for each character. Can't ask for more than that. And the beautiful long take fight scenes and lighting / locations.
The Kevlar bulletproof suits are actually real. Someone replicated the 3-piece suit and test fired on a mannequin. The Bullets didn’t even past through the vest
Regarding the Akira and Caine scene, if the director and Keanu is not trolling people at the interview, they mentioned at the IGN interview that at one city's JW4 premier has a slightly different post-credit scene compare to the rest of the world...if people can find out what it actually show (if it even exist), then it might definitely show a clearer picture of what happen to Caine and Akira afterward, or something like the Dark Knight Rises ending as a post credit scene (john is alive and stopped Akira from going down the hole of revenge)

Building such a great backstory and legend for him to just die would be a bum ending. Best way would be for Winston to die and John take over as New York King. Amazing movie and a worthy conclusion(maybe) to an all time great franchise. My only criticisms are the runtime; I think a tighter runtime would’ve made the movie even better. And the “Nobody” bounty hunter. His arc wasn’t particularly interesting and the actor and overall character seemed out of place among the mysterious, larger than life personalities we have in the series.
It felt like they were setting him up for a TV show but he's literally a nobody so he's gotta interact with john so he seems like a big shot in his own show or something.

The Hacksmith video on creating a bulletproof suit was pretty interesting. One possibility that ties together his disappearing wounds/scrapes, his ability to travel undetected, the director saying "take him to the lifeboat", and JW walking into Casablanca from the docks (?) in chapter 3 is traveling the slow routes by boat or possibly cabins on freighters w/ entirely different levels of scrutiny...

They are smuggled for sure from country to country also Continental hotels aren't entirely exclusive to criminals and likes but for other rich civilians too, the concierge will know that you are an assassin if you give him a gold coin thus giving the person a more VIP hospitality. Also authorities don't give a shit about it because even authorities are under the table at least the majority of them.
They made it clear John Wick is a video game. The over head shot confirmed it for me. The holes in the floor, the hard falls and the character gets up and keep moving is a video game with they typical story line. Right on the same lines of The Last of Us.

When the marquise wanted to kill John, taking advantage of the fact that he had been wounded, then John used his last bullet, killing the Marquise. But when John kills the marquise when he tried to kill him believing that he couldn't defend himself, doesn't this nullify the duel? It is supposed that once the Marquise chooses Caine is the one John must fight but John kills him and Caine does nothing else. Isn't this a pact between Caine and Wick? I am curious about the duel at Sacre Coure. I've never seen a spent casing taken out before a new bullet is loaded. Is this a dramatic effect or is the model of the weapon just different? No way he died… when he passed out on the stairs at the end, I interpreted that as utter exhaustion from all hes been through. It reminded me of when he passed out at the end of JW 1. He was overwhelmed with a bunch of emotions while also being wounded, and just desperately needed a break.
Here's one no one has touched on. John meets the bowery king and Winston at the metro station "Porte des Lilas" which is at the eastern end of the city. Sacré cœur is towards the north of city. The bowery king says he'll get him as close as possible only to drop him off at the eiffle tower which is at the SOUTH WEST end of the city marginally further than where he initially was. And from there on he follows a realistic succession of location throughout paris so it's not like they decided to remodel the city to fit the narrative 😅 (as someone who lives in paris it was a disconnecting and almost hilarious moment)
I like to think he was Helens father, and became his father in law but father figure he needed, or is his biological father who knew John would be used against him by the table so he put him in the Russian orphanage instead of linking him always making him a target before he’s ready
Why nobody realises that John Wick is a mutant like Wolverine from Xmen or that he is an android like the terminator.- and that explains a lot about how he survives big falls from buildings. There is one scene in the movie, where a goon tosses Wick straight on a lamp pole or something and when his body hit the pole, there is a huge metal sound coming from the impact. I mean how can a normal human body produce metal sound on an impact if it wasnt of metal itself?
I was completely sold on John being dead UNTIL Winston said "Who knows?" when King asked him about where John went. The way McShane delivers the line is one thing, but the way Fishburne reacts just makes it seem like the "John Wick" persona is dead. John, the man, is totally alive out there somewhere.
The suit that is given to him by the bowery king is the buffer as to why he survives such outrageous injuries. Still not realistic but at least they aknowledge that this might not be perfectly accurate. Good enough for me it ties everything together just as all the other sub plots to the movie
I'm surprised he wasn't wiped out during the fight with Killa, the Arc de Triomphe scene, the point where he launched himself out of a window onto a van onto concrete. Being booted down 300 steps or his suit armor giving way after being shot 20x at point blank range numerous times throughout the movie. They really dialled the absurdity up to 11 with JW4, which made for a fun movie but they completely gave up with any sense of realism.
Why didn't John die when he fell in the nightclub? That fall should have - at least - created multiple fractures, if not actual broken bones. Not to mention serious internal injuries and bleeding. You don't just get up from a fall like that.

To fufill Johns desire to no longer being under the table, "John Wick" had to die. Not just to get him out of that life, but so the table could save face. John is now free to choose another name and walk into the world a free man with no attachment to the table. So yes, "John Wick" is ded but the man is still alive.

One possibility that ties together his disappearing wounds/scrapes, his ability to travel undetected, the director saying "take him to the lifeboat", and JW walking into Casablanca from the docks (?) in chapter 3 is traveling the slow routes by boat or possibly cabins on freighters w/ entirely different levels of scrutiny...

John never used the last bullet in the duel, implying a possible pact between him and Caine. When the marquise wanted to kill John, taking advantage of the fact that he had been wounded, then John used his last bullet, killing the Marquise. The rule was that John should challenge the marquise to a duel, but the marquise chose caine as his representative and it was with him that John would duel. But when John kills the marquise when he tried to kill him believing that he couldn't defend himself, doesn't this nullify the duel? It is supposed that once the Marquise chooses Caine is the one John must fight but John kills him and Caine does nothing else. Isn't this a pact between Caine and Wick? Caine did not try to finish John off to make sure that he had actually finished him off. Right then John asks Winston to take him home and Winston says "Sure John". Didn't Winston take him somewhere? Winston front the Lapid said Farewell Son, they never said GoodBye son. John it's not dead.

Why do people assume these bullet wounds were fatal? Remember John Wick 3, John shoots the doctor to make sure the table thinks he was forced to help John. And he shot the doctor in the left shoulder and left side exactly where John got shot by Caine.
I am curious about the duel at Sacre Coure.
I've never seen a spent casing taken out before a new bullet is loaded.
Is this a dramatic effect or is the model of the weapon just different?

I know they mention his wedding ring specifically but I don’t believe that it’s gone. Someone on the high table has it.
No way he died… when he passed out on the stairs at the end, I interpreted that as utter exhaustion from all hes been through. It reminded me of when he passed out at the end of JW 1. He was overwhelmed with a bunch of emotions while also being wounded, and just desperately needed a break.
Here's one no one has touched on.
John meets the bowery king and Winston at the metro station "Porte des Lilas" which is at the eastern end of the city.
Sacré cœur is towards the north of city.
The bowery king says he'll get him as close as possible only to drop him off at the eiffle tower which is at the SOUTH WEST end of the city marginally further than where he initially was.
And from there on he follows a realistic succession of location throughout paris so it's not like they decided to remodel the city to fit the narrative 😅 (as someone who lives in paris it was a disconnecting and almost hilarious moment)

Why nobody realises that John Wick is a mutant like Wolverine from Xmen or that he is an android like the terminator.- and that explains a lot about how he survives big falls from buildings. There is one scene in the movie, where a goon tosses Wick straight on a lamp pole or something and when his body hit the pole, there is a huge metal sound coming from the impact. I mean how can a normal human body produce metal sound on an impact if it wasnt of metal itself?

I was completely sold on John being dead UNTIL Winston said "Who knows?" when King asked him about where John went. The way McShane delivers the line is one thing, but the way Fishburne reacts just makes it seem like the "John Wick" persona is dead. John, the man, is totally alive out there somewhere.
The suit that is given to him by the bowery king is the buffer as to why he survives such outrageous injuries. Still not realistic but at least they aknowledge that this might not be perfectly accurate. Good enough for me it ties everything together just as all the other sub plots to the movie

These are pretty cool ideas. I think he's alive.
I'm surprised he wasn't wiped out during the fight with Killa, the Arc de Triomphe scene, the point where he launched himself out of a window onto a van onto concrete. Being booted down 300 steps or his suit armor giving way after being shot 20x at point blank range numerous times throughout the movie. They really dialled the absurdity up to 11 with JW4, which made for a fun movie but they completely gave up with any sense of realism.
Why didn't John die when he fell in the nightclub? That fall should have - at least - created multiple fractures, if not actual broken bones. Not to mention serious internal injuries and bleeding. You don't just get up from a fall like that.
Never got any closure from Aurelio and his Mustang project.
FYI a kevlar suit was made by a youtuber that works! Stops submacine fire and pancacked a full metal jacket! NO penetration. Looked as sharp as the movie too! Completely wearable, check it out on the Hacksmith Industries channel
Ok, so here is the FREAL story behind the ending. First, is John Wick dead? Yes.... and no. To fufill Johns desire to no longer being under the table, "John Wick" had to die. Not just to get him out of that life, but so the table could save face. They "killed" John Wick" But not the character the Keanu was playing, he walked away like promised. John is now free to choose another name and walk into the world a free man with no attachment to the table. So yes, "John Wick" is ded but the man is still alive.
Looking back now I kinda wish John would have gotten shit in his suit a little more . The fall damage thing I can forgive to an extent tho
