  • The Xiaomi 14 Ultra offers a remarkable technological feature: a variable aperture that allows you to change the depth of field in the photos. That is, how much or how little the background is blurred in your photos. And it's all done optically, not digitally as we're used to with portrait modes.
Yes, it's a feature that will appeal mainly to experienced photographers, but on the other hand it has a very real impact on how the photos will look. And it pushes mobile photography a little further towards proper cameras.

Hello sir I really like mobile photography but mobile cameras don't provide as much depth as needed to make a photo beautiful My request is that you make a video about taking human portraits at 3x zoom with a 1.63 variable so that depth can be understood Please sir just make one video on this topic ❤

Into general, I'd like to see 3x a Type 1.0/1" Sensor into a possible 15 Ultra. Being curious about the 14T Pro into this fall. The best camera is that one, that's with you ~ Chase Jarvis. I don't lug my FF gear for hours anymore, even photowalks. Therefore, a phone is good enough, as ever ready camera. But the IQ is not up to the task, by design. It's no 36x24mm Sensor of course. Xiaomi 14 Ultra & Vivo X100 Ultra are two great state of the art phones, at the moment. But i'd never pay that amount of money for (just) a phone, which is old gear, just after 12 months, when the successor is being released. Therefore, all 3-4 years a new midrange phone is just enough for my needs. For anything else into photography, i have better gear.

Hi and thanks! Yes, it is a very good point: mobile phones really get old very quickly, much more so than cameras. So, the waiting game makes sense. I believe that in a couple of years, this might change, and the quality will become much more stable over time. Best, Jan

What's the point of controlling the aperture when the "background" that you get looks awful LOL

Well, I quite liked it in fact, most of the time, it is much nicer than the artificial blur of the portrait mode... And above all: what really matters that this feature of traditional cameras comes to mobile phones, which really changes many things... Maybe not in this type, but generally, no doubts... Jan

@ccj You must be Gen-Z, smartphone snapper only. Never used Film, never know about the ASA/ISO-Aperture-Shutterspeed triangle...nevermind.
