I have wanted a foldable after the first Fold, but was waiting on the market to mature and more players to enter the game. Got my Open last week and I am blown away with the experience. Feels so refined and polished for a first offering from OnePlus (Yes I know its technically a 3rd gen Oppo folder). They did a great job and I am stoked for Samsung and Pixel fans because this will push the entire foldable market forward.
The specs for the camera looks good. But I hear it struggles when objects start moving because the slower shutter to compensate for lack of light getting to the sensor.
In fact, 512 gigabytes is the only storage configuration available for this device. In addition, you can actually ram swap up to 12 extra gigabytes for a total of 28 gb. Frankly, this is the best foldable that I've seen to date. The only thing that I don't like is the fake leather that some people keep calling vegan leather for some weird reason. However, the notion of spending $1,700 for any smartphone rubs me the wrong way. Furthermore, it really makes me want to check my birth certificate just to make sure that I wasn't born yesterday.🤣 Besides, I purchased my Oneplus 11 back in February and I absolutely love it. I really don't see myself swapping up anytime soon.

On the contrary I find the faux leather on the back quite refreshing, it's nice soft and grippable and would definitely withstand some impact if fallen versus an all glass back. Phone manufacturers must go back to try to make their phones more robust and able to withstand a simple drop without cracking. Most phones these days are nothing but glass. Which of course mandates everyone to buy cases. I wish OnePlus would have taken at a step further in fact and made the edges also leather, let's make these phones as durable as possible so we can extend their life and get our monies worth!!
@@apex_chris frankly, if they had taken it a step further and went all fake leather I wouldn't bother with the device. In addition, whether it be polycarbonate or glass I always use a case. Once more, I don't view it as a mandate. A mandate is something that is required by an hegemony and that is obviously not the case. Of course, no pun intended. Lol. The other option is owning a device with abrasions and scratches at the end of its use. The primary reason most flagship devices utilize glass is due to wireless charging and 5 g antenna bands. Glass allows for better signal reception and is far better with wireless chargers. Then again, this phone does not offer wireless charging which doesn't really matter to me. The green is so eye-catching. I just realized OnePlus phones don't have their own proprietary music player app. That's annoying. I was interested in getting a OnePlus phone too 😢
It is $1499 if you trade-in a phone, even if it is 20 years old and does not work. So, you are wrong and he is right, but that is a limited-time offer, though OnePlus generally has deals all year round.
Nah it’s a Prettier looking Samsung Z Fold 2! No Water resistance, no wireless charging, no S Pen capability, & based on its software it is similar to Samsung vs the smooth Better experience you get with the Android maker, Google Pixel Fold! I mainly like how the Camera looks and front screen is wider than the Z Fold and build quality. That’s it…
Imagine tech reviewers pushing foldable phones when the adoption rate is Anemic. It's like EV's and telling everyone how great they are...yet they only represent 1.5% of all vehicles on the road. Here's a reality check....the camera housing is the size of a hockey puck...You can still see the crease and most people will just be using the devices main display and try to figure out how they were hoodwinked into getting this....
Disagree with this completely. I am a self-confessed tech enthusiast so obviously have had folds since they started to come out. But to the extent that the adoption rate is anemic, this is purely price driven. And a little based on the hardware. Once foldables cost 1k and look like a normal fold, but that opens up to a tablet, I think most people will want one. And that is where the tech is going. There are already two Chinese phones that nail the hardware, if not the price. And the One Plus Open comes close on the hardware. And with the early bird discount I paid £1,340. If I had traded something in, it would have been close to £1k. When it costs what a slab phone costs and it looks like a slab phone, but opens to a tablet, who wouldn't want this?
@@adskee69 I liked the way you made ur points, good job. As far as the part about who wouldn't want it we have to remind ourselves that plenty of folks aren't as tech savvy as you sound, and I think though that even they would be curious as to why for even as low as $1K, which isn't exactly dirt cheap, for that thousand bucks the device doesn't have weatherproofing and/or wireless charging, technologies which competitors have had integrated into devices for awhile now. That's an awkward problem that hits me like lead.
Contractor here, the screen isnt your worry, the hinge is, once it's filled with a bunch of crap it'll soon take the screen out from the bottom. Plus both open and folds come with inner protectors from factory so maybe it's a price issue for you?
That is fake. The OnePlus Open has 4 years OS updates and 5 years of security. The same as Samsung. I do not know why Galaxy Fold fans have to give the wrong info to justify their purchase. Both phones have pros and cons, so best buy what works for you.

I don't know. We'll have to see.
@@thejasontlewis I hope I am wrong.. if these foldables are going to become something? We need more companies going at it!!!
idk about everyone else in the u.s. but personally, I love the competition w samsung. I'm def not in the tech world but have been obsessing over this phone for 2 months and pre-ordered right after watching them launch.
Interesting
Vegan leather is best for animal lovers
The problem is I am not not a fan of foldable but I am becoming less fan of OnePlus as the year goes by no matter how good the phone is.
at this point form factory wise there is a folding fold for everyone. but samsungs software and watch is the best to me
No such thing as vegan leather. Let’s be honest.
I eat vegetarians.
Yes there is…Its made from polyurethane
Learn about it
The green is so eye-catching. I just realized OnePlus phones don't have their own proprietary music player app. That's annoying. I was interested in getting a OnePlus phone too 😢
Sony going to make foldable phone next year probably.
Good content. Sorry but it's 1,699, not 1,499. If anyone get this phone they better get a very strong case.
Yea I saw $1499 on Greggles TV link
It is $1499 if you trade-in a phone, even if it is 20 years old and does not work. So, you are wrong and he is right, but that is a limited-time offer, though OnePlus generally has deals all year round.
@amfrepo true, but the regular price is 1,699. With out trade in. So who is wrong🤔
@@jeromegold3216 let's call it evens then.
The website was selling them at $1499 when I made the video. That was the only price I saw.
@adskee69 agreed! not a techie but love the foldable concept and the early price sold me, esp with those specs! can't wait to get my order!
My biggest concern is still the plastic screen. I really won’t get super interested in folders until I can’t scratch the screen with a finger nail
I never got the impression the screen was scratchable in the way you describe.
Contractor here, the screen isnt your worry, the hinge is, once it's filled with a bunch of crap it'll soon take the screen out from the bottom. Plus both open and folds come with inner protectors from factory so maybe it's a price issue for you?
Oneplus open only 2 years android update max. Galaxy fold5 4 years android up max.
I going to choose Galaxy fold5.
They promised 4 years of android and 5 years of security. Along with 5x more folds at 1 million folds with the open
That is fake. The OnePlus Open has 4 years OS updates and 5 years of security. The same as Samsung. I do not know why Galaxy Fold fans have to give the wrong info to justify their purchase.
Both phones have pros and cons, so best buy what works for you.
You don’t know what you’re talking about
You don’t know what you’re talking about
No wireless charging
No esim
Not a buy
Only comes in 512GB variant, no wireless charge, no reverse wireless charge, no stylus support, etc. And that crease will certainly show over time. Nice prototype nonetheless.
