Well, now that the KBash Kingdom Hearts marathon II.9 is complete, I will present my findings in video form. Kingdom Hearts was awesome. I don't think there'll be another series quite like it.
Dream Drop surprised me, 0.2 served its purpose, and 3 got me. Still hoping for Drive Forms in KH4, but I'll take what we got in KH3. I've got a little more to cover, but you'll see it soon enough.
**about the 0.2 not delving into Xehanort - I know Union X exists, I just wanted it to be more, uhh, grandiose maybe? a little more comprehensive and elegant at showing how Xehanort got to be the big bad? and maybe not locked on mobile...

@@lindblumpickles3407 It makes me sad that there were only a small handful of Unversed in Kh3.
      At first they're just whatever.
They needed a new enemy archetype because they explained that the heartless didn't exist (pure bloods are the exception) until "Ansem's research of the heart and created them.
But when you go against Vanitas for the last time and find out that they're literally emotional extensions of him, I don't know... I thought it was kind of badass as a concept. Vanitas can just create countless stans that do whatever and represent different emotions of the heart. It was cool as a plot point when you realized killing them did absolutely nothing but feed directly into Vanitas.

It does feels obvious that in Nomura’s original draft of the script there was a Xehanort prologue. There’s little reason for the game to open with his and Eraqus’ cutscene otherwise. When you consider that Scala ad Caelum was also supposed to be a hub world and Sora is in the Final World in KH3’s tutorial, I get the feeling Nomura was originally going for a Harry Potter 6 scenario where Sora sees the “memories of Xehanort” (which have been hinted since KH2’s Secret Ending). Dark Road is a shame. For who Master Xehanort was as a character and what he represents for the series, his story deserved much better treatment (either a cutscene movie or 0.2 style short game).

KH3 has its flaws, and I'd even agree it was weaker than KH2. Did it take too long to come out? Yes, but that's also a matter of perspective since some people had the wacky belief that the game was in active development as far back as 2006. I'm sorry for anyone who had all their expectations crushed with disappointment, but Kingdom Hearts 3 was still a pretty satisfying finale to the saga on its own merits, even if it doesn't have the same highs as KH2.

It's the same complaints over and over, attractions, no FF characters, I don't understand the plot because I didn't play anything after 2, combat is spam x till the thing dies, etc. I'm not saying they're wrong for having certain expectations, but the game doesn't merit the absolute deluge of trash it got for not being the same game over and over again.

Dude, please tell me if you think the story in KH3 is any good and explain to me why, because that was a big factor as far as the feedback this game has received and it definitely wasnt just combat. It's not about KH2. I have played a lot of the other games in the KH series thst I have genuinely enjoyed like 358/2 days and birth by sleep. this game was the worst one by far for me, KH2 being the best as far as combat. But when you have a game whose predecessor (KH2) already has established a high standard of what the game should be and the successor is just not that, then obviously people are going to complain. It's the exact same reason why people complain about how Sega hasnt released a good sonic game in the past 10 years when they have released games in the past that have already established a standard of how far the game could go. Instead of trying build on that, they make lackluster games, and sure, THOSE lackluster games can have elements to be enjoyed just as how you described for KH3, but that doesnt make the game QUALITY. It presents absolute mediocrity. That's why people complain

Your explanation of Dante and Ryu's personality being realized in their moveset is exactly why people call the sub-genre "Character Action", because the Action is dictated by the character that is being used because it is supposed to pair with that character's personality and lore.
While I wouldn't say it is the core sub-genre of KH, it is definitely one of the sub-genres that apply to it, and your explanation here explains why.

Dream Drop Distance is a game I slowly learned to appreciate. I'm a longtime fan of the series, but DDD was... strange at first. It took me a while to come to terms with it, especially the Dream Eaters, but after more and more playthroughs, it's actually tied with Birth By Sleep as my favorite entry in the entire series. The story's wild, the Dream Eaters are actually pretty fun if you really learn how they work, I can never get enough of the pinball minigame, and the entire ending is like an 8-fight boss rush. It's incredible. And THANK YOU for what you said about the Drop Meter. It really isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. You're given so many Drop-Me-Nots that make the meter almost completely irrelevant. It's gotten to the point where I pretty much never drop unless I deliberately choose to, usually because I've already finished a world with one character without dropping once, and now I want to do that world with the other.
Also, thank you for being so positive when it came to KH3. I wish I enjoyed it as much as you seemed like you did. That's not to say I don't like it -- I do. A lot, actually. Pretty much everything after the final Disney world is some of my favorite stuff I've seen in the series, and everything I ever wanted from the game, and I absolutely love it for that. But getting to that point had a lot of ups and downs for me. I need to give it another replay sometime, and look at it with new eyes.

I'm very glad you enjoyed the series and appreciated KH3 for what it was. If anything, I see any sequels of old franchises as a way to really reflect on how much I have changed since I first played the original games. All the people complaining about this and that have forgotten what it was like to love a game despite its flaws. I think it is because growing up and dealing with life is a draining process where we are disconnected from the children we all are at heart.

That whole Union X crap with the black box and what not took away from the Big Xehnort and saving the others plot. Sora's character, felt better than his DDD counterpart but he didn't seem as good as his first two game personalities. He came off as a doof after the intro and kept getting his ass beat.
