Everyone says that the impactful part is "Their smiles below say I don't owe them my life", but as someone who has lost nearly everyone I held dear the first 18 years of my life, I can confidently say that, "As I live all the years that they left me behind" is the line that breaks me. Never take for granted the people important to you. They always leave sooner than you think. Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean for this to sound like a "feel sorry for me" comment. I just wanted to share my experience lol
Even in chiptune form, i still manage to get misty eyed because i can still hear "Their smiles below say i don't owe them my life" because i've stared into the darkest abyss before, it's not worth it. Think of those you miss most and live out all those years they've left you behind, so when you finally do set sail, you can tell them all about your voyage.
Oh, I bid farewell to the port and the land And I paddle away from brave England's white sands To search for my long ago forgotten friends To search for the place I hear all sailors end As the souls of the dead fill the space of my mind I'll search without sleeping 'til peace I can find I fear not the weather, I fear not the sea I remember the fallen, do they think of me? When their bones in the ocean forever will be Plot a course to the night to a place I once knew To a place where my hope died along with my crew So I swallow my grief and face life's final test To find promise of peace and the solace of rest As the songs of the dead fill the space of my ears Their laughter like children, their beckoning cheers My heart longs to join them, sing songs of the sea I remember the fallen, do they think of me? When their bones in the ocean forever will be When at last before my ghostly shipmates I stand I shed a small tear for my home upon land Though their eyes speak of depths filled with struggle and strife Their smiles below say I don't owe them my life As the souls of the dead fill the space of my eyes And my boat listed over and tried to capsize I'm this far from drowning, this far from the sea I remember the living, do they think of me? When my bones in the ocean forever will be Now that I'm staring down at the darkest abyss I'm not sure what I want, but I don't think it's this As my comrades call to stand fast and forge on I make sail for the dawn 'til the darkness has gone As the souls of the dead live for'er in my mind As I live all the years that they left me behind I'll stay on the shore but still gaze at the sea I remember the fallen and they think of me For our souls in the ocean together will be I remember the fallen and they think of me For our souls in the ocean together will be
I'm loving this album, but boy, I don't know if my heart's ready to hear this song. My eyes grow moist whenever I hear this Bones in the Ocean, must be the damn salt.
I may not relate to this song as others would but me and my friends enjoy this song a whole lot. It will probably be the one of the few things we remember each other for
Came here since comments are turned off on the original. This song saved my life once. Might again someday. “Now that I’m staring down at the darkest abyss, I’m not sure what I want but I don’t think it’s this.” Bless the Johns!
Really one of the most sad and tragic songs I've heard. Somehow the chiptune makes it sound sadder, almost like a song lost to time, just like the sailors in the song...
I recerched the meaning of this song and it was so sad but had a somewhat happy ending. I wish more songs these days were as deep as songs like this. Many songs today have great tunes but stupid lerics.
@@yasininn76 Ah yes, the anime man berating someone on their reading comprehension skills. My brother in christ, it would seem the irony has flown just about 100 feet over your overinflated head.

Internet hugs for you, bud. Sorry for your losses. I’m sure they’re proud of you
That's my answer too
You and me both. No matter how often I listen to the song, that line makes me bawl my eyes out.
Memento mori. i think that works well on my levels for this comment

Welp, as soon as someone can mod Sid Meyer's Pirates with this music, can they let me know?
That would make a great game better
Ah yes, you make Ben number 46
Literally my first thought when I first heard this album. What's your favorite version?
It's enough to make a grown man cry.
and that's ok
"Their smiles below say I don't owe them my life"
1:50 Still just as powerful even in chiptune form. You know what I'm talking about.
Agreed
Here here.
cheers.
Bones in the ocean is very powerful and this style fits it extremely well

This song gets me every time. I recently lost my father, and this song makes me think about him so much
It's like the song that'd play during the Video Game Credits
I can easily see this on an old GBA game, brings back those memories. I love it
I LOVE this simple imagery. This has been one of my favorites since I first read the lyrics, and the picture fits it so well
From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Dave.
The video with this song speaks a thousand words when considered with the song as context. Bonechillingly beautiful.
It's amazing how this music can still make me cry even like this
The only thing in the world that makes me cry every time without fail.
Man even the pixel animation is hitting me in the feels
Thanks my dudes. Ive always had a love for chiptunes
The art draws up nostalgic memories of **(I Fell in Love With) The Majesty of Colours**

Even in eight bit this song hits like a train
I ain’t cryin’. You are. And so is me.
Never fails to bring a tear to my eyes, even in 8 bit
Love the reflection of the shipwreck
First it was only my favourite shanty. Now its my favoutite 8-bit song too!
This is so much more beautiful than it has any right to be, and I love that this is a thing that exists.
Bones in the ocean? Sound like a boss fight to me!
This was not what I was expecting when I clicked on this video, but this is pretty chill
Sobbing this is the one I was most excited for and I was not disappointed
8 bit tears are more painful that real ones
Amazing
crying everytime i hear this, even without the lyrics
This is making me more sad than the original. Who knew chiptune could have such an effect
I love this cover! keep doing it like this!
❤️
Fantastic work!
Very creative, will share
nice one!

Why exactly did you feel the need to research the meaning of a song which lyrics are so clear even an infant could understand em?

Y’all, did Black Flag get a lot less pretty and a lot more sad?
this lowkey feels straight out of monkey island
