Working German WW2 Air Raid Siren

- Not often you get to hear history. Listen to what Kids in the European Theater heard almost daily during WW2. No time for warnings with today's technology. Still working after 80 years. Turn up the speakers, good sound quality
Damn... German's version are creepier than British one
HyouMix ! Yeah it’s interesting that different types and manufactures had different tones.
The Germans fear American war machines.
HyouMix ! Ik
the Germans were actually most scared of Britain, so much so that they tried to get Britain to become nationalist socialist and join the axis.
@@aimarramadhan2380
Americans didn't do shit. You only swooped in the european theatre when it was clear that the brits and the russkies were going to win and you wanted a slice of the germany pie.
that thing is 80 years old and still works?! cool its still loud
oldschoolfan german engineering⛔
@@Julien_22_ yes sir
Americans sirens are nearly 100 years old and still works...
@@sprintertrueno1985 Calm down now, this is not a competition or doesn't have anything to do with American sirens. This is about a German air raid siren. I would also like a source to that.
@@Juubelimies Federal Electric Model B started producing back in 1918... And they still work today, there is a guy on Facebook in the Siren Enthusiast group that got one of the early Model B siren and she still screams even if she's 102 years old..
"Calm down"?? I'm calm I wasn't threatening someone lmao
Imagine being in Dresden used to this sound signifying a drill but this time it would tell the citizens this is the night the city will fall.
NorCal Aviation It’s an ominous sound for sure
I was just about to comment this. Dresden was one of the biggest war crimes of WWII thats yet to be acknowledged
Not just Dresden, but anywhere in Germany. Pretty much the whole country was carpet bombed.
Dresden?
Dresden was bombed a hand full of time but not the most. The people of Emden were used to the sirens much more as Emden was the "bombs dump" for the allies.
Got some bombs left after an air raid? Throw them off over Emden.
My grandmother told my mother (as I never met her) that she remembers seeing Emden burn on the horizon from a village over 30km away.
The city was 95% destroyed.
@@MichaelJ44 No it wasn't. Köln was destroyed significantly more, and don't get me started on Warsaw. Dresden was a major logistical hub and a legitimate target because the Nazis were still happily murdering jews on their territory and if the bombing made it stop just a day early it was worth it.
The only downside is that they act as if they were the victims today and most of saxony is voting for the nazis again.
imagine reading a story to your child, and the next minute you hear this and your child gives you a look, as if you know you both will not see again. or at least want to.
Its not the action, the death, or consequence of whats happening, its the silents of before and after the violance
I remember hearing this siren while playing Battlefield 4 with my friends when a dust storm approaches the map. This gives me chills the moment that siren plays
My home town of Frankfurt was 80% destroyed by Allied bombing. Even in the 1960's I remember many bombed out buildings still standing waiting for repair.
Thanks for your comment. My mother survived the Bombing of Tokyo. They lived in the upper floor of a book store near the university, owned by my grandfather. It was totally destroyed. Ironically my father was with the 8th USAAF, 351st Bomb Group stationed at Polebrook England. He participated in missions over France and Germany during 1944.
I have some videos in my military history playlist you might find interesting.
My mother died 06 December 2021. She and her family were in Marienfelde. Mom had just turned 17 when Germany surrendered.
The carpet bombings over Germany will remain amongst the worst atrocities in history.
That is crazy. The Allied around the clock bombing on Germany was relentless. I can’t even imagine how terrible it would have been for the citizens.
This sound scared me!
R.I.P all civil people in world war 2..
German or not
That's always an eerie sound to hear even today but technology has gotten so much better. Also air raid sirens have there own "accent" to them depending on where your at.
This give me chills and the heart beating fast. Must be terrifying to listen that song and all you could do is cover under something and wait for the worst. Oh boy... chills...
For whom lived that time and there, this could be the sound of seven trumpets, because they were in a apocalypse and there was a great chance of them to die.
Chiiiilllsss
nobody wins the war.
The only winners in war is who's left.
Best Quotes Ever
Allies won the war. Someone does win
Flynn Jacobs the European people as a whole lost, even the ones on the winning side.
Nikki... no one wins immediately. War is mankind’s growing pains. If it wasn’t for World War II we wouldn’t be living in the safest time of human history. I would have certainly not been born. My mother was Japanese and her house was destroyed during the allied bombing of Tokyo. My dad was a US bomber crewman in WW2, responsible for killing many German and French civilians. Japan has evolved into one of the most peaceful nations and is third in economic power. It appears they learned something From the war. Google how many French civilians were killed on D-Day by Allied bombing and shelling. “Those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it.” Let us remember those who were killed, do not let their death go in vain. It’s not how far you fall put how high you bounce back up.
I should imagine there's not many left that will recognise that sound fkn creepy tho imagine been in bed then that goes off and there's a 1000 bomber raid coming in .
steven Cooper I guess they expected to hear that at some point. My mother was Japanese and survived the bombing of Tokyo, while my Dad was with the 351 st Bomb group over Europe. Japan still has alarms for earthquakes and tsunami’s. In the 60s I remember the civil defense sirens being tested once a month in the San Francisco Bay Area. I agree they’re all very eerie
imagine just having a restful sleep from a stressful job in hannover or dresden and this blairing out and waking you up terrified damn.
I live in Nürnberg one city that was destroyed heavily during allied bombing during world war 2. I put this sound on while walking at night in my headphones and the feeling I felt was so terrifying, imagining a peaceful walk at night only to hear what could be the sound of your death or your loved ones. Truly sad and heartbreaking this was the sound most heard last in their moments on earth.
Thank you for the enlightening comment. My father was a crewmember on a B-17 Flying Fortress for the US Army air forces. He flew 35 missions during World War II. My mother is Japanese. Her home was destroyed during the bombing of Tokyo. The firebombing of Tokyo killed more civilians than the atomic bombs. Just when you think mankind has learned a lesson, we fall back into the same behaviors. I was in Nuremberg in 2008. The vice mayor at that time was Michael Kaiser. He oversees a private museum in Nuremberg, which is housed in a World War II flak tower/bomb shelter.
Sounds even scarier than the British one- and also I like how they overengineered it as usual
Sounds so scary god
KING_GIRLS Vang yes. Sirens always mean bad news
Such eerie sounding peices of equipment
I simply can not imagine the horror my Grandma has had to feel when she heard those at the age of four years. I‘m still mad that the Allies didn‘t face a punnishment for those air rades on civilians
The Axis did air raids too, either way its fucking brutal.
@@airforceexp3835 i know but the Axis faced punnishment while the Allies depict themselfs as clean as Jesus and the pure saviours of the world
@@biver1878 Of course.

POV: When you Pause the video/end the video its still playing
Imagine living in Dresden and hearing this before the bombing and fire storm that killed 45,000 people.
Definitely wayy more than 45k , 200k-500k
Interesting that both sides had not only the same siren idea but also the same warbling intervals.
I’m sure there was some science done to come up with the most effective tones etc. thanks for watching!
The carter air raid is 100 times creepier lol
How to scare your grandfather:
I dub this biggie the baritone of all air-raid sirens worldwide.
That's what I was thinking
These low pitched sirens were actually used for purposes other than air raids, such as fire calls. Higher pitched sirens were reserved for air raid warnings. This way the population would know which siren is which and not be confused and/or panicked unnecessarily.
My new ring tone!
That is actually a 2 tone siren. But the top tone only works which is the low tone
Thanks for the information and thanks for watching
This video played randomly when I was listening to music while sleeping. Scared the shit out of me
lol… sorry I hope it doesn’t cause PTSD! 😉
R.I.P Kids in the school
It's neighbor must love it
Its actually broken bc some sound differtley
That siren looks scary
Must have some good bearings being around so long
You must either be a mechanic or an engineer With that train of thought … LOL
I know present to you as the oldest german siren
1:34 that was in Poland when germany invaded poland
Wow I guess the Germans were even creepier than the British.................
Midnight Wolf Gaming. A ominous sound for sure. But I guess that’s the purpose of the siren is to convey the danger
0:23 that's when the siren goes off
I think I just found the one that scares me the most....😫😫😫
That's a loud low-tone siren. Most air raid sirens are used for the fire departments.
I Want For My Alarm,I Can't Wake Up
This sound together from the engine sound from the b-17 bombers both are the sounds of death.
Wow this siren is older than me!
War never changes
Scary.
That’s one way to reuse old tech and by that I mean scaring the shit out of people
I imagine this was played quite a lot during both ww1 and ww2. Might as well be the national anthem
sirens in my country from ww2 is a cool motorbike 😎
Siren:REEEEEEEE
BF4 Gulf of Oman right now. Hate that damn sandstorm 😂
A mooing siren
That’s Fucking terrifying
damm the the creepierst tornado siren
0:50 me and the boys over germany
RIP
They should use these as nuke sirens
Growing up in the 60s I remember them testing the silver defense sirens. I guess it’s not a thing anymore. Although in Texas and Oklahoma they do have sirens for tornadoes.
This has to be the creepiest and most fucked up siren of them all
Right?? Definitely ominous. Thank you for watching.
im getting some silent hill ptsd xD
Everytime I hear this alarm, I think of the Gulf of Oman sandstorm in Battlefield 4
Terrible period of history. Thank God it is in the past. All that death and destruction makes me angry and sad at the same time.
Nice
I set this as my alarm my dad thought it was a real air raid alarm and i told him it was my alarm for waking up for school then he slap me lol
Lol
must be nuts
This siren its low pitched
Its kind of ominous
That is horrendous, imagine then the A.A. guns opening up, bombs whistling down and exploding ! We have it ok now
I sow des to mi granpa and he says he has flasbaks, and he started yelling “IS HITLER ALIVE AGAIN OR IS IT PEARL HARBOR AGAIN?!”😊😅
