It was the first time I saw Martine Beswick in a bikini, Molly Peters in a shower and Luciana Paluzzi in a towel. Now wait what was I talking about.....? Anyway it was a very influential film...with some nice shots of the Vulcan.
Certainly a highlight of any day watching them turn and glide as though a paper aeroplane yet with a thunderous roar when the pedal was pressed to the metal...
I saw one when they had an anniversary flight over Ladybower reservior ( where they practiced the Dambusters raids). First there was a Jaguar, then the Vulcan, which had trouble getting over the hills, and finally a Lancaster, which seemed tiny, and at about 200' ; at 60' it must have been terrifying.
Such a shame that this magnificent piece of engineering history is now consigned to an ignominious future of gradual decay. Dumped in a corner next to a sewage works. If the airport authorities had given warning it would be kicked out of its home in Hangar 3, BEFORE it lost it’s licence to fly, It could have been moved somewhere like Bruntingthorpe, where it was restored to flight. And where it could have been properly conserved in a building where events and visits could have continued to take place to raise funds for its ongoing care and preservation. Instead of just shoved into a place of increasingly rapid decay.
I agree however I think the group who "look after" it underestimated how hard it would be to raise the minimum amount to secure the start of building...I can't remember how long they had but they must have thought they could but after years of giving however small amounts the thousands that had been giving for the last 10 years must get to a point when they have to spend their spare money on crucial things...the amount they have raised you would think enough to road haul to brantingham as you mentioned..I guess once it stopped flying the buzz and thrill of seeing and hearing it gone then leaves it for the museum types and even when museums are free many would rather sit and watch telly or moan there is nothing to do...we British do it so well lol....
Indeed, without the leadership and inspiration of Robert Plemming, the project is rudderless. Wouldn’t cost much to erect a semi-permanent marquee where she sits now. To keep the worst of the elements off. And allow events and visits to take place under wing, as happened regularly in hangar 3. But the airport authorities seem reluctant to permit that. A deal of much needed funds were however squandered on the expensive purchase of the WK163 Canberra, that now sits semi-dismantled close by. (Just the other side of the airport fuel store). Not possible to road transport a Vulcan. Way too big to be allowed or even physically fit on any roads. No way to remove the wings as with some other designs. Because the wing spars are are single piece construction that run tip to tip across the full width. That’s what gave them their immense strength that permitted the high bomb load and capability to withstand the stresses of continual low level flight fully loaded. Unlike other designs where the fuselage is the primary unit of construction, with wings attached. The Vulcan is a flying wing with some front and rear fuselage units attached.

Mind, up close and personal to a hovering Harrier was an experience.
@@boblewis5558 I always thought Concorde resembled a swan, in flight. The colour helped, too.
@@wessexdruid7598 i went to see the Vulcan take off one Saturday but was not in time so decided to stand where i was which was about 500-750 yards from the runway and i knew once it was up it appeared over the top of the hanger and airport structure (robin hood airport) luckily it was normal take off direction towards Bawtry or my plan would have been scuppered...there was a light breeze too which meant all the sound came back as it was as usual taking off into the breeze...it was an experience i will never forget as the engines had already started and i judges it must be turn to sit on the end of the runway waiting to build up .the phrase "did the earth move for you" was never so accurate as the air pulsed and vibrated..it was like some special effects from the x-men movies as the more the engines built up i could feel not only the ground vibrate but ALL the air seemed to pulse and vibrate with energy and it built up and up and up and then she screamed off and i stood there feeling "what the hell just happened" and i could see her rise towards the end of the runway as she cleared the tops of the hangers and airport and i stood there for 5 minutes in awe...it was like a earthquake tremor that lasted 60 seconds.. definitely a case of being in the right place at the right time as all the take off's i saw when i thought i was in the best place never left me with that feeling !!!!
Great British ❤
I have a painting of XH558 in pride of place, above my fireplace in my lounge. When she howls, it is better than sex!
a painting that howls..you sure its the painting ?
@@wanlover477 Once you have heard her howl, as I did quite often, as a child, your mind immediately connects her picture with the howl still in your head, and it never goes away.
👍 When (approximately) was this filmed?
2 of these 8 clips where from it's last but one flight which would be October 2015 and the others taken 2015/2014/2013 took it for granted it was never going to end lol or I would have taken many more
@@wanlover477 Thanks! 👍
The airplanes flying in formation look like RV's??.. I built one (profile pic).
That`s just the normal takeoff noise, the howl is a very different noise altogether, you can feel it your chest. I have seen XH558 more than 30 times and is always inspiring.
Scandalous shame that Dr.Robert Fleming Chairman of VTTS got greedy and decided to pay himself £150,000 yearly salary. VTTS was a charity and no wages should have been paid to anyone.
Public trust was lost in the project when this came out, and donations to keep the aircraft flying dried up.
Thankfully the current VTTS is a much better setup. Fleming died in 2010.
They won't be sneaking up on anyone. Damn that's loud!
with the noise i think the extra fear of panic as they would run for cover which you would not get if silent lol
@@wanlover477 yeah with the American B2 bomber they hear nothing! Just boom then goodbye!
It sounds like the f104 jet
There was a c.f. 104 starfighter jet for sale 5 months ago...wonder if anyone bought it..
nothing else on earth makes that noise!!
Longest howl ever? Nah. I went to school near Woodford where they were built, ground tested and given their air tests. I used to hear that howl for a long time, wind down and wind up.
on Sunday they where doing a engine runs for the paying few and I heard them roaring on and off for 40 minutes which is odd as normally I only hear it for 5 or 10 mins...
@@wanlover477 Woodford was 5 or 6 days a week!
@@Volcano-Man in the early days there did it do the Vulcan howl or was it with changed engines or something else later on ?
@@wanlover477 Google is your friend for that information. I believe the howl was caused by a certain engine, as 607 - I believe didn't howl but roared!
Is this a fighter jet or some kind of deltaplaner?
wikkipedia's answer is.......Avro Vulcan jet powered delta winged strategic nuclear bomber i think i'm right in saying too slow and not agile enough for a fighter but a bomb dropper,
@@wanlover477 As I see, it even won't reach the bomb dropping destination, before it is shot down.
@@vibecee4183 it reached its dropping point the last time after multiple refuelling mid flight and got home ok....
@@wanlover477 It's wonderful!
@@vibecee4183 it really was when you was lucky enough to live a mile away from where it was based and you could see it take off and return as we live only a mile from where it was based so often had a dash over to see it off and back 90 mins later on its return...nothing else like it..
Why is it painted in camouflage under the wings.!!!!
when it was in a dog fight and did a barrel roll the attackers from above would get disorientated as it would be invisible for a moment as from above it would blend in with the ground....unless You have another possibility..🙃
@@wanlover477That's a very funny answer. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Made in Britain
Not true howl imo but still nice vid ;)
Thank You....this was the very first time i saw or heard it so i had no true howl to compare against lol...
wHY THE BULLSHIT THUMBNAIL
why the potty mouth ?
Really Something!
