A self-taught gardener, Mark has captivated over one million subscribers with his honest approach to outdoor living, mistakes and all. Embarking on a journey of self-sufficiency over 10 years ago, Mark and his family turned their Queensland acreage into a thriving food source, recording their journey along the way.

We have 13 Embden geese, 8 🐔🐓, and 2 🇬🇳 fowl, 7 steel gardening beds for vegetables, one huge concrete gardening bed, two wooden gardening beds, and 27 window planter boxes. My wife was in the 🇺🇸 Army for 7 years and I retired from the 🇺🇸 Army after 21 years. We met on a FTX. All women need a M16 on their first date. I would love to garden full time and raise our flocks. But I am the breadwinner and my wife and kids have fun gardening and raising the flocks. Thanks for the video! We love watching Self Sufficient Me!!!

Love this thank you self sufficient me I can relate with you a lot as a soldier who just retired you have helped me with my gardening and it has been so therapeutic this last year and with my own struggles with ptsd

I've been one of Mark's followers for quite a while now and just love his videos. I've learned so much from them, not only about methods but also about varieties of fruits and vegetables. I've also been using Hoselink for several years and just love their products! It's so good to see the back stories like this. Love this video! Mark has been such a big influence in my family starting a homestead. He's so relatable as my husband and I are both veterans and have mental health challenges. We've just bought our remote average and have a blank slate to work with. We love the dad jokes and can't go a week without reruns of your videos Mark!

Mr. Mark I am so delighted by your channel. You look like my fill in heater ac guy a friend from Junior High and High School. Something desperately needs to be done. Our returning soldiers are just being dumped on. Trauma is something that you can never get out of a person, once they get it - and so many of our troops return home, with trauma. FAR too many of them end up committing suicide.
Your story is stellar. But what do we do for all the others?
I've always lived by the mantra that - "if I have a belly full of food, somewhere warm to sleep at night, and someone I love, to share my life with, then I'm a rich man".
Mark - you may not have billions - but you're doing pretty well. I wish others could
Gotta run - have to clean up these tears. I'm walking a parallel path - suffering from depression - and "going it alone", borrowing from the ideas of AA, staying away from any of the things I know are "triggers". But this is much easier than "dodging the bullets" of trauma! I can admire you - but I can't say I envy what you've been through.

Every time I feel stressed out I do 2 thing I watch Mark on RUclips and I walk in the park most of the time I no longer need the park . When I retire I am going to get a house with a little yard and as Mark would say “get into it”

I'm an Aussie, living in the States. I'm also a Gulf War navy veteran with PTSD, who started container gardening a few years ago. You inspire me whenever I watch you and I get homesick listening to all those Aussie birds in the background. Learning more about your family and your life was awesome. Definitely True Blue, mate. After watching Mark in a few videos in his garden, I knew we could be buddies. He likes all the things I like but has gained much more experience from his endeavours. I was looking for a Hose Reel for the front of our home. For years we struggled with a ground level cranking reel that busted my knuckles on a few occasions, and the strain on my back. The hose reels I found online looked cheap and their presentation did not instill confidence. Then I came across Marks video on his new Hoselink reel. I was sold. He explained it very well and showed us the product in a practical way extolling it's quality. I wanted one. Living in Canada I was dismayed to find Hoselink only in Australia and the U.S. Luckily I live in a border region and have friends living there, and working here, or visa versa. I made the purchase to a friends house in the sates and he brought it over to Canada. Customs pulled him in and charged him duty which I covered of course, but the Hose Reel was still worth it. We couldn't be happier. Looks very sharp where it is mounted too. Thanks Mark, and thank you Hoselink for making a quality product that will last. Cheers, Doug

I live in Ohio in the U.S. so my growing seasons and conditions are far different than Mark's, but I love watching his videos because it's evident he has such a good time with his garden. Yes, it's work (what garden isn't?) but the return on investment for him seems so apparent to me. And I do pick up tips I can use - today I learned not to overwater the potatoes!

Thank you for sharing your story. I was almost in tears when you talked about your PTSD. I would love to know how you are dealing with it as to are you seeing someone, (talking) along with meds? Sorry if that is too personal, I am struggling with it myself and in my area, I do not have any PTSD choices other than suicide watch (team). For me, it is not that bad anymore because of these ppl and the gardening, but I would like more of a long-term solution. You are right, I have started to garden in the last few years and it has been a great help to get outside, I even talk to my plants:) Also, yell at my cats and dog for staying out of the plants.
