Those are actually regular sized tomatoes grown by an Australian Giant.
He says he was in the army, no doubt to me he had to be in the SAS or something. Dude is a mountain
@@Mr1337sheep Dude is a humble giant
Erik, now that I have seen the thumbnail picture for this video and having read your comment, I cannot see it any other way! Mark is clearly an Australian Giant holding a house-sized bowl of what regular mortals like us would call "bloody big tomatoes." Crikey!! 🍅🍅🍅
tomatoes actually see him as a giant
Hahahahaha
What I like about Self Sufficient Me is he's goofy while doing all of this (tasting the sauce and turning with an exaggerated smile), but you can tell he's a genuinely good person. He cares about teaching everyone, and he puts his heart in everything he does for the channel. Good man, invaluable knowledge. Keep on going, Aus.

I just want to salute this man just for counting those tomatoes 😰😰😰
It took me like 10 minutes to realize he was making ketchup and not spaghetti sauce because I’m an idiot.
Repent! I'm sure you are not an idiot :)
Metanoia deadhorse
chlatepdng yea that means nothing to me 😂
No you aren't an idiot, you must be American lol. I thought in the beginning he was making pasta sauce as well. It's ketchup to me and sauce is full of herbs, garlic etc.

Thank you lol for about 5 seconds it was traumatizing to see him put sugar in what I thought was tomato sauce and then only when he took the pulp out did I put 2 and 2 together 😂 you’d think I’d see the ketchup bottle though and understand in the beginning 🤷🏼♀️ nope lol.

Self Sufficient Me love your stove
I made some stewed tomatoes with every kind of tomato in garden. It was so much more tasty than canned. Loved it. Wasn’t difficult at all.
I dont have a yard to grow anything in right now but I will someday. Thanks for making these videos. Its neat to learn about all this stuff and reminds me of gardening with my dad when I was younger.
The greatest end you could have.
1761 😃
You should trademark that number for your next line of business (tomato sauce)
3:24 sounded like the bird was counting along too 🤣

I just wanted to let you know that I really love your content and the way you are passionate about it. I just recently started gardening for the first time, I suffered a lot in the course of 4 years because of clinical depression and I never thought gardening helps me in a way that it really helps improve my mental health and that I look forward to something everyday, which I really needed back then and even now.
First thing I planted was some leftover stalks of kangkong from our kitchen and they are growing nicely. I bought a few seeds of some herbs and veggies, planted them and I'm finally feeling excitement for the first time in 4 years. I hope they grow wonderfully. :)
Thank you for the inspiring work
Dropping in to say I know this feeling. Even if you lose your plants, don't worry; it leaves open doors to start fresh! A while back, I lost ALL of my tomato plants; part due to mites, part to a home-brew "bug killer" I didn't pre-test, part due to mom suffocating the leaves with heavily soapy water. Needless to say, I had to toss all the tomato plants. On the upside, I've got quite the tomato seed stock to plant from. Even though I planted a total of eight seeds, only two sprouted. Bummed me at first. Later on, I took the seeds out of three cherry tomatoes. Cleaned and dried 'em, and got to thinking: I really only need about three tomato plants...
I separated the two sprouts, and in the now-empty planter, planted five cherry tomato seeds. This was just yesterday, so it's a big wait-and-see as to whether or not they do anything. Since all the first tomato plants dying left me a clean slate, I now have 16 strawberry seeds planted out there (one of which has sprouted!), along with three lemon seeds as a "why the heck not?". Was I bummed about losing those tomato plants? Heck yeah, I put a lot of effort into those!! Ultimately, it left me with a clean slate to really do what I'd been wanting to try, and so far, everything SEEMS to be going well. 😁
Very long way around of saying look at the positive. If you DO (hoping you don't!) lose your plants, you have a clean slate to start fresh. Plants are resilient; as long as it's still green, keep at it! They can bounce back surprisingly well, given time, and there's nothing more satisfying than watching one of your plants go from fragile, teeny sprout to "HOLY HELL, IT'S BIGGER THAN MY HAND, NOW. 😲"
If I'm feeling a little below par a good walk around the garden or pottering around with some container plants really helps me greatly. I'm glad you have found the joy of gardening - it's quite an incredible healer! And there is more to it than just growing food or ornamentals. All the best :)
Damn I only have 1760 of them guess i'll have to chuck them on the compost heap
Liar, 1760 is way enough. This dude didnt even count it, he lyied. Fucking clickbait.

I've got tons of these little buggers and they're great to be thrown into a salad, but I have too many for that alone. I've been asking the Universe for a recipe for something to do with them and here you are. Thank you so much for doing this video. You've revolutionised my world! x
Roast them, freeze dry ... them add to quiche, fritatas etc ... delicious.
Sending them to me is also an option 😂😂 Sounds delicious!
Family trick for reducing the acidity of the tomato sauce is to add a few grams of chocolate. Makes the sauce creamy in mouth feel and eases the tang on the stomach. Cheers!
🙏
Forced2makethis Bloodyaccount we use grape jelly if the sauce is too acidic. Butter if it’s too sweet. No idea why, that’s just what my family does
We use chicken stock for the same effect
Wonderful ♡ I had never heard of that before ♡ thank you
I use yellow or orange tomatoes for less acidic sauces. The yellow tomatoes have far less acid than the red tomatoes. Amitābh
Your American viewers are going to be SO confused by that first bit hahaha
I can attest that it was pretty hard to understand.
Seriously though what is a dogs eye and is this ketchup or tomatoe sauce?
Dog's Eye is rhyming slang for Meat Pie. I thought ketchup had added sugar and tomato sauce had added vinegar, but others in comments below don't always agree with that.
Towmatoy
@@JamieBainbridge who the fuck adds vinegar to tomato sauce
I made your recipe yesterday and have to say, this is the best ketchup recipe I’ve ever made. The recipe was a great use for all those cherry tomatoes burying me and the recipe performed as advertised. I’ve canned a lot of ketchup and always have issues getting a nicely reduced smooth, thickened sauce without scorching. I had zero issues here, making it a pleasant experience because I was so happy with the end result. Thank you for sharing your recipe, it’s a winner.
Congratulations 🥳 🤤😋
Seeing that you feed the hens the remaining food that's not used warmed my heart
Saving this recipe just in case I get that many cherry tomatoes one day...
The look of pure glee when he showed what he wrote with the sauce made my day a lot brighter haha
Darn too bad you need 1762 to make a really good sauce.

Yeah, ketchup has added sugar, but tomato sauce has added vinegar.

Love this guy, truly a great person. And he has such a beautiful garden too!
This is my 5th time rewatching this vid and I regret nothing.
Interesting.
Here in Nigeria we usually blend the tomato so not to waste the pulp
Gladys Mba that’s a really great suggestion! I never thought of that! Will have to try it! We tend to do things the way our grandmothers taught us.
I always do that as well when cooking with tomatoes
I usually do the same thing but I've heard that the seeds can make it a little bitter. Maybe next time I'll try straining them and see if there is a difference.
@@aquariumaddict let us know the results!
I was getting the same thing. Lots of good pulp left in the strainer. Look for my long post about how I made this sauce. I ended up using a sieve spoon to remove the skins. Then hit the sauce with a stick blender. When i was done the only thing that got discarded was skins and seeds.
I didn't know what a "dog's eye" was then I searched for it at RUclips. Couldn't regret more.

I mean he showed it is a meat pie. I haven't really heard that name before but figured he meant meat pie just because it sounds the same.
Thank you for your wonderful video. It very useful. It work very well for me! I am learning how to grow vegetables and I watched your videos 4 months ago and followed it step-by-step. Today I made the tomato sauce and its taste beautiful as my husband said 😊.

Just wanted to say, that I deeply appreciate the videos you make. One for the effort that goes into making them and your consistency and two, for spreading awareness about being self sufficient. I think it's very important to know what you eat and everybody should try to be self sufficient in some way or another, even small stuff matters. Especially in the day and age we live in nowadays.
Keep up the good work, I hope I can follow your content for a long time!
Apologies for any bad english and greetings from a german horticultural science student. G'day to you!

Thank you or I should say Dankeschön! We spent a few days in Munich on the way back from our French/Italian/Croatian holiday and we were extra impressed with the markets and food in general. Wow Alex Jones makes his own tomato sauce! Good to know!
How long will the sauce last in the refrigerator? Can you freeze it? Thanks.
You can always freeze tomato sauce.
Opened and then kept in the fridge it will probably last 6-12 months. The sugar, vinegar and salt preserve the sauce well. Cheers ;)
You can also dehydrate the pulp (if you have no chickens) and grind it up for an awesome tomato powder.
Good to see what you do with the veggies in the kitchen. Keep it up

oh my god i never thought of doing this. It must taste absolutely amazing! i'd personally replace the sugar for brown sugar and vinegar for apple cider for even more unique taste. Thanks for the recipe! i also agree to keep it bare simple so that the taste of the cherry tomatoes comes through.
