Over the course of its soon to be 26 seasons, we've seen many friendships develop between both the children and adults in this quiet mountain town. Given its long run on the air, many of these friendships have gone through their ups and downs with some naturally being on much better terms than others. Which of these friendships rank as the healthiest and which ones leave us questioning if we can really even call it a friendship?

My favorite friendship has always been between Butters and Kenny, although we don’t get to see it as often, the genuineness of it is just great to me.

I would have thought that Kenny and Butters would have been the healthiest mainly because Butters cares deeply about him and that Kenny actually respects him. Stan and Kyle have had their rough patches, but I can understand putting them at number 1 mainly because the Kenny and Butters friendship is barely seen
The thing that I find funny about this ranking is that they put big Gay, Al and Mr. slave as number one in their couples list, but they’re only in like one episode together lol
I assume it would've gotten knocked down a couple places due to the shuriken incident. Though what's interesting is that even in the bad future timeline, Kenny and Butters (who changed his name to Victor) remained friends and Vic even helped Kenny with his research.

It amazes me how Stan, Kyle, Kenny are still with friends with Cartman despite all the bad stuff he has said and done over the years.

There are real relationships where people stay with bad people even after doing bad things. Some say it’s because they depend on the person, some say that they don’t want to suffer the consequences, or some say that they want to reap the benefits that come from the relationship. Who knows.
It's some small hick town in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains, where are they going to go, Detroit?
they're only friends with cartman because when you live in a small town you're kinda forced to be friends with everyone, even the shitty kids, just because you have to see them every day.

I wish this video talked more about the other kids AND adults too. It surprised me to see so many friendships and characters missing, including all of Craig’s gang, Wendy, Bebe, and even the parents and teachers like Mr. Garrison, Gerald, Sharon, Randy, Mr. Mackie etc.
While I agreed with all these rankings, it felt like some key friendships were missing.
Like Randy and Towelie, who had a pretty healthy or grey area friendship and Randy and Mickey Mouse, who had a very toxic friendship. haha Also, it was surprising to not see the friendship between the kids and Chef, the friendships between more of the adult characters, and the friendships with the girls, like those involving Wendy, especially. And no Tolkien or Craig? Wha? But, fun list anyway, and pretty accurate.
Jimmy and Timmy are my favourite friendship, they're always there for each other and bring out the best in each other too. Despite the rough start they're friendship is rock solid now and I doubt anything would split them similar to Stan and kyle.
They’re my favourite friendship duo alongside Butters and Kenny. I like that their friendship didn’t start well because sometimes it be like that, and they’re both fun characters (even if Timmy isn’t that prominent in comparison lol). I just sort of wish their names weren’t so similar but oh well they’re still tons of fun

Stan isn't tolerant of Cartmen he's indifferent except when Eric takes things too far. I think Cartmen's intentions to be better friends with Stan are actually quite sinister. What better way to hurt Kyle then to wreck or at least have control over the only healthy friendship Kyle has?
Honestly, while Kyle and Cartman are a very toxic relationship. It still astonishes me that Cartman still wants him around. Even going as far as saving his life a couple times and vice versa. I think Cartman and Butters is even more toxic because Butters has gone through so much psychological torment by Cartman that it makes it hard for him to even fight back and just has to endure whatever is given to him. Honestly Butters just has it rough in general. Constantly being grounded for very petty reasons, picked on by Cartman. Belittled by Stan and Kyle. Heck even the townsfolk always seems to blame him for something he didn't do. Heck even his own grandmother abuses him. Butters isn't even his real name. It was a nickname by the creators to play on words butterscotch. His real name is Leopold. You know all of his relationships must be toxic if not even his parents call him that. Kenny has nothing to really lose so keeping friendships is something he values and it is something Butters really appreciates.
I don’t think everyone calling butters by his nickname instead of his real name is a negative. Butters never seems to have a problem with it, it’s not like Cartman (or Pip) where he’s called that as a form of resentment, “butters” is kinda affectionate ig lol

I'd say Cartman & Butters "friendship" is worse that his & Kyle's personally, because Cartman isn't friends with Butters, he just uses him and manipulates him, and Butters is too innocent to know better 😣
At least Cartman & Kyle are both smart enough to know they're enemies / friends and Kyle can stand up for himself.

I think Kyle has it just as bad because he actually cares about Eric to a certain extent. so he's basically trapped in this cycle of wanting to believe there's good in Eric but constantly being used, abused and then being convinced to give Eric another chance. It's not a coincidence Kyle drew parallels between himself and Hedi during Cartmen and Hedi's abusive relationship. Kyle knows he's being abused but he can't seem to break the cycle.

In the episode "Let Them Eat Goo" when the school decides that it was going to change the food, Butters feels guilty at lying to Cartman and Cartman NOTICES. This is a very big deal because Butters doesn't say anything about how he's upset and Cartman doesn't ignore it, showing that he CARES about Butters enough to even ask about why he's upset showing that he's willing to LISTEN.
another thing to notice is that Butters is actually not as gullible as people think he is anymore, like in the episode "The Magic Bush" he is expressing his anger towards Cartman and doubting the plans Cartman comes up with. At the end of the episode Cartman is even willing to make Laura happy for Butters own peace of mind.
Even in the newest episode "DikinBaus Hot Dogs." Once Butters has had enough of Cartman's antics he doesn't just sulk and accept it. He sticks up for himself and in the end, Butters gets his payback for having to put up with him by taking away DikinBaus from him, meaning that the relationship is becoming WAYYY more balanced than it used to be and also showing that Cartman values Butters and cares about him that he won't let him go even if Butters is starting to gain confidence and stick up for himself.

I think the bottom two relationships need to be swapped around. Whilst Cartman has done a lot of evil shit to Kyle and there is a lot of vitriol between them, at least Kyle defends himself and sees Cartman for what he is. Butters however is much more trusting and vulnerable to Cartman’s bs so there’s a huge power imbalance. Cartman has taken advantage of this and played some truely heinous tricks on Butters.
I'd actually give the gold medal for most toxic to Cartman and Butters. While Kyle and Cartman obviously hate each other and are always seen fighting, it at least has occasionally seemed genuine. Whereas Cartman is only friends with Butters to manipulate him.

I knew Kyle’s friendship with Cartman would be the most toxic one mostly because of Cartman’s manipulation and making fun of kyle for being jewish but hear me out, Cartman kinda acts like a “big brother” to Kyle due to fighting constantly but if someone else makes fun of Kyle cartman gets mad (it was shown in the episode with pc principal’s first apparition I think) Also Cartman saved Kyle’s life lots of time ! Last point : in some episodes even if Cartman is pretending to change and be nice Kyle supports him this is why I believe their friendship should but shouldn’t be put in last place

I knew the gold medal of toxicity would go to Cartman and Kyle. Even if I’ve only ever watched 2 episodes of South Park so far I’ve watched plenty of videos about the show that highlights the hatred between these 2.

Well I would rank Cartman-Kenny a little higher since Cartman is apparently really interested in Kenny. He seems to be the only person in South Park that realizes and remembers Kennys many deaths.

The fact Kyle and Stan are in the good section is kinda goofy cause of their arguments and they have fought each other and ended their friendship like ten times
Yeah but they have always reconciled, displayed deep love, care, concern, and support for one another, they enjoy being around each other, and they are loyal to one another while still having their limits

The Loony Tunes part is my favorite part of South Park, because the kids sound like the characters from the tv show. They are funny as H E double L. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! LOL!!!! My dad likes Looney Tunes sometimes, but I love it a lot. This tv show is one of my childhoods shows that I watch. It cracks me up to see Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck go head-to-head with each other. One friend chip I wish you did was Kenny and stans, we don't see it a lot but most of the times when there's A fight, Kenny and Stan are almost always on the same side, more times then Kyle and Stan actually, (such as Faith hilling, coin and friends, and the black Friday episode) and in the pasion of the jew, we get to see Kenny and stand friendship and they play off each other really well, I hope Matt and trey do more with them in the future
