Y’all I think 5th gen changes based on the music sound there is not a year they have to follow. New Jeans pushed the “new sound” in K-pop. For example with boy groups we had a lot of “noise music”( Ateez, Straykids, P1h) but with 5th gen we are back to this teen-crush concept.
sm probably wants the new bg to have as many fans as possible tbh like it's so obv that if shotaro and sungchan join a lot of nctzens are going to be interested in the new bg..but still it's so weird that they participated in like 2 nct songs and then left

From me seeing that 4th Gen most probably started in 2018, I still count The Boyz as 3rd gen, and just because everyone considers them 4th gen, I'm not gonna believe it too. Idk why but I believe them as 3rd gen group. Also I love given taken (their only title track that I loved. I did love tamed-dashed, but given taken was a slay) also I agree with bite. Yes Cravity's newer music draws me in especially their bsides. Boynextdoor don't interest me. I heard the teasers of their songs and then heard their first released song and I didn't like it.

a new generation isn't something that starts/ends in certain date. Its when the vibe and the music is completely different from the ones before. I honestly believe that the 5th gen has in fact started. Because 4th gen (bgs specifically) were mostly based on noise music (skz, ateez etc) and most of the bgs that are debuting now have this fresh teen-crush concept. You can tell that the music has DRASTICALLY changed so I 100% this is the beginning of the new gen.
