  • Ive got some new bars for my road bike! and I've gone down a new path.
    After trying narrow bars for the last few seasons, I have gotten become more comfortable and faster! But narrow bars are not without their draw backs. Enter my new Roval Terra handle bar. A gravel handlebar on a road bike??
    In this video I unbox this new bar. Talk about why I think this is a best of both world situation. Fit it to the bike and get out for a first ride!
    Is this a new trend for 2023? Well hear me out and let me know your thoughts in the comments.
    Keep the pedalling simple everyone!

    Just took my gravel bars off my bike and replaced them with 38cm regular road bike bars. I am happy!

      Oh so narrow road bars on your gravel bike?? How have you found that compared to the gravel bar? I’m interested to know.

      @@simplecyclist It was on my road bike that I bought used and had gravel bars when it arrived. they were wide - like 42cm and then flared drops. I much prefer the 38cm bars on my road bike. Seems much faster and more aero and handling seems to be not a problem. I am only doing road races and not crits so not sure how I would feel about the 38cm bar if I was doing crits but for road racing I like them.

      I was doing this also. Putting 38cm width on my gravel. Currently looking with a bit of a flare but hars to find 38cm with flare here in ph. 😂

    everything old is new again!. The original bars on my 85 Trek are 38 at the hoods and 42 in the drops. They were called Crit bars back then. They got crazy wide with bars in the 90's.....my frames a 60cm btw

    Recently ordered an FSA K-wing AGX gravel bar which I'm planning on putting on a Specialized Roubaix. Bar is 400mm at the hoods and 450mm in the drops, mounted on a size 56 frame. I'm glad I found this video as I was worried I may have gone too narrow. The Roubaix will be predominantly for road use, although I will probably do some light gravel on it as well.

      Glad it was helpful. You won’t have issue with 400 wide bars being to narrow, even on the gravel. And even if you need the width you just get into the drops. I’m still loving my bars after a year now.

    Specialized mention “comfort, control and performance” for the Terra handlebars, which makes them sound a bit on the relaxed side. Wondering how stiff they feel during a hard effort / sprint, are they flexy?

    • @simplecyclist
      @simplecyclist  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes they are certainly comfortable, which should be expected for a gravel bar. I wouldn’t say they feel flexy at all though. Potentially compared to the Rapide they would feel that way for a very powerful rider, but certainly not at my sprint level. Hope that helps.

    Found the channel , nice vids! Had the rapide handle bars replaced with Enve road ones and they feel so much better with the drops flared out. You should do a commute vid into the city from the Hutt, things to watch out for, pinch points etc, Kam

    Enjoyed your review and just subscribed. I was thinking of trying the Terra bars on my Aethos. I was thinking of the Terra bars for two reasons. One was the one you covered which is wider drops. The other interesting spec on the Terra bars is very shallow drops only 103mm compared to more common 125-130mm drop. Have you noticed this? What's been the impact of the shallower drop on descending?

    • @simplecyclist
      @simplecyclist  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much! Yes the drop is noticeably shallow, but the only impact is that it’s easier to get into the drops and more comfortable. I have done long technical descents on them, and had less neck strain then with previous bikes. So honestly it has only been positive.

    Can you share the pic about the cable management with the new setup? Will the cable came out and looks bad? Haha thanks.

      Hi Adrian. Sorry for a late reply. Im going to do a follow up video on these bars soon, and will make sure to show the cable management. Mine is pretty tidy but you do need to be accurate with brake cable length during install to achieve it. Ill post back here when I get that video up.

    Best bar on the market which has been out for 2 years I think now is the pro vibe aero pursuit 36 to 40 on the hoods and 38 to 42 on the drops perfect and they’re alloy so not to expensive or easy to damage in a crash

    • @simplecyclist
      @simplecyclist  Год назад +1

      Yes that’s a really good option! They do have a really long reach though, which makes them abit unique.

    Hey mate. I’m actually interested in doing just this on my sl7 at the moment. How are you finding the shorter drop these bars have? They look great btw

    • @simplecyclist
      @simplecyclist  Год назад +1

      Hey there. Great to know others are thinking of this! I have not found it too bad. I think the width naturally extends the reach abit, so its not as much difference as on paper. Personally I’m liking it so far, seeming the front end is so low, so the drops actually feel more usable then before. Will probably do a longer review once I get some more kms on them.

    Do these bars have an ergo flat top (not aero)? They almost look like they have a square profile?

      No carbon paste for this bar. The clamp surface is textured, so no need for it.

    • @simplecyclist

      In this video I’m running 120mm. But I have since gone to 130mm because the reach of the terra bar was shorter then most road bars.
