Great talk and so true about many Mums. It is a time to be enjoyed (and sometimes endured!) without trying to achieve ‘supermum’. Very inspiring.

I love the visual of the smoke alarm. I totally get that feeling that I have an alarming moment, telling me to stop doing something I know I either have to do, or want to do. In future I'm going to wave my imaginary dishcloth over it and do what I know is best even when I feel guilty somehow. It feels sometimes as a parent that no matter what you choose, guilt is waiting in the shadows... thanks for this message Helen! it's helped me SOOO much!!!

Helen, great talk! Im not a mum but I agree with you re over-controlling mums who are overstressed and far from enjoying what they do. I work with such women. Bless them! Trying to explain them the same. Will share your talk with them from now on :)

Guilt is favorite tool of control for majority of mothers.
I've been around dozens of women and all of them were forcing child into compliance by rejection or guilt-triping.
What's funny is that child tend to blame daddy for those feeling because it's safer to express feelings this way. Seriously
So say thanks to mommy 😄

This Ted talk is not talking about mothers using guilt to control. This Ted talk is about mothers who feel guilty not being the perfect mother 24/7.
