Went out to target the great barracuda with my good buddy Johnny. We started the day by catching live bait and then headed inshore to fish docks and seawalls in Boca Raton, F near Lake Bocal. Barracuda often get a bad wrap for being a trash fish and are often thought to contain Ciguatera, a toxic lipid that can make you very ill. Ciguatera poisoning is very rare and not common in the united states. It's also not very common in smaller fish. Large predatory fish are more prone to be carriers of ciguatera, not juvenile fish.Any reef fish can have ciguatera including snapper and grouper, not just fish like barracuda. Ciguatera is more common in the Bahamas, where it is a real concern!

Bro your culinary skills have taken off!!!! Been watching you for 2-3 years now and just wow!!! Definitely looking forward to your San Diego and Alaska videos.
Thank you Dean!!! Im trying to bring some new content to you guys!
Come to San Diego!!! That would be awesome
‘
im proud of that blue runner vic
Love your channel too!
I used to fish for Barracuda's all the time. I once asked an old fisherman if he ate them and if he did, what his recipe was. This is what he told me: "You clean the fish and put it on a board with some tomatoes. You put it in the oven at 350 degrees and bake it for 45 minutes. Then you pull the fish out of the oven, take it off the board, throw the fish in the trashcan, and eat the board.
Can't agree more! Barracuda is near the top of the list of my favorite fish to eat! But I'm fine with everyone else not eating it. More for us!
Love them here in the Bahamas🇧🇸
Haha for real I’m Cuban I love barracuda 🔥
@@neilnewton4427 do you love them, or are they available? LOL
@@utopia4056 Both!!!
I’ve tried it twice, didn’t like it…
I'm in Belize 🇧🇿. Caught a 50lb cuda about 100yrds from the reef in about 80ft of water. My biggest cuda yet. I heard about the dangers of keeping the big ones, but I fish to eat and feed my family. I brought it home, cleaned and cooked a piece for myself that night. I waited two days and I was good, so we cooked for the family and shared what was left with friends for them to take home. Good eating imo.
Brookies mom is so adorable, I love her soft spoken voice!
when you catch a barracuda what u look for to know its ok and ready to eat. Here in 🇯🇲 some ppl are scared to eat them some ppl say there are poisonous I've heard it even kill people too here they say u can put it down n if no fly pitches on it its not good another way is cut piece of the fish and drop it in ant nest and if ants don't swarm it its not good spear fishermen said if it swims lousy n slowly its sick I've heard alot things about it but i tried it and its very nice i love it look everyone plate is empty 🤣🤣🤣 your a good chef big up Brook and Victor 👍🏿👊🏿🇯🇲
My god...English 101!!!!!!!!
none of those methods mean it does or doesn't have ciguatera, those are all wives tales. very large cuda that have been living on the reef are more likely to have it as ciguatera comes from reef fish they eat. remember it's from the diet they eat that they get it, there's a lot less reef in fl than the bahamas in most places as the dropoffs are too steep and the way the gulf stream is, so a bit lower chance. smaller size fish are not as old, so they don't have as much of the toxin in them.
@@wrxkyleThanks much for your explanation now i fully understand 👍🏿👊🏿🇯🇲
I'm jamaican living in Miami and barracuda is a prized fish to us. Love the videos and looking forward to seeing the fishing trip videos and think it's a great idea. I'm anxious to see what you guys will catch as you travel.
Its almost midnight in sydney australia and i am drooling at that dish. Off to the fish market tomorrow i go to recreate it best i can :) So glad i found yours and brookes channels. Love watching you guys do your thing!
I absolutely love these catch and cook videos, some of these recipes are new to me,I’ve lived on the gulf all my life, dine a lot of my own catch and cook, but watching you is just inspiring, thanks for what you do brother!!! Keep the videos coming, and yeah,I’m trying out some of these recipes lol
Saw one of your previous vids on eating a cuda. So I caught one off of the beach in Jacksonville last summer. Took it home and fed about 15 people with it. Everyone thought it was amazing!
How big was the cuda?
Brookes mom is adorable 🤣❤️❤️she just seems so appreciative every time
Yes she’s awesome
Hey Vik, great video. You have a great combination of things that make you and Brook so likable. Someday I will write to you about it. But I think the most important one is that you are believable. You are authentic. And you know who you are and wants us all to see: a smart, educated, polite and nice fisherman, who knows a lot about Biology and nature, and loves food enough to learn how to cook like THAT. I am a foodie and good cook myself, and write to you from one of the top culinary capitals of the world: Peru. I can surely say we are your biggest fans here: a Peruvian married to a Bahamian, who love fish and fishing, and eating good food. Keep up the good work. You are living the dream, but only because you are good at it. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I want to visit Peru! Thanks so much for watching and the support!
I've been eating Baracuda all my life in Jamaica🇯🇲 and never got poisoned until I caught and ate one here in Grand Turk TCI🇹🇨 a couple months ago, but that's not going to stop me from eating it though.
Wow!
How sick dose it make you lol is it like food poisson
Who doesn't eat this fish?
@@jnathan1312 me but its cause i was told i couldn't do you know if they make you sick enough to worry about the what if im from canada so can only fish them when im down south once in a blue moon
Same here in the Bahamas never got sick
Back in the 1950s I was part time crew on a party boat (47 seats). We ate a lot of smoked barracuda...and sailfish. I am getting hungry.
Dude, since back in the day I've always learned something fishing related watching your channel, but usually clicked off when you went to the kitchen. As a trained chef I felt your fishing had more to offer. That's not the case anymore. This is the second video I've replayed the cooking portion multiple times. Bravo and respect
As a San Diego native, and an avid fisher-eater of Barracuda since I was a kid (in my 30's now), this makes me happy. My whole family, and a lot of my fishing mentors growing up also told me it was trash to catch.
But here we are...
What about bonito? I pretty much only ocean fish in Mexico and 50/50 on whether locals eat cuda, but no one eats bonito. It's just bait.
@@scottleggejr Yeah, bait pretty much for Bonito, albeit some crazies (like myself) dry it out and use it as like sushi topping and such. Its actually pretty good, but not something I'd eat like any other fish.
One of the best tasting fish u could ever eat is a Barracuda. I’ve been eating that fish for years in Jamaica and I’ve catch a lot of them. All u need to do is cut off a little piece of the barracuda flesh and put it where ants is to see if the ants will eat it because ants don’t eat poison.
That's bullshit
Ants eat poison, what are ant traps lmao
@@noahwoelfel3861 true dat.
@@noahwoelfel3861 Ant traps are made with Boric Acid aka BORAX, which is what you wash your clothes with. Laundry Detergent. If you were to eat Boric Acid, all it will do is give you Diarrhea. It won't kill you.
I learned the same trick but with a cat instead
Aw man, if you go to San Diego you should do a Humboldt squid fishing video. It's a 4-6foot squid.
I just got back from a fishing trip in Alaska for Halibut and King Salmon, youre gonna love it and I cant wait to see the vids
I wanted to let you know, I always enjoy watching all of your videos. I love to fish and I learned alot from you all about fish
Hi vic we catch and eat barcuda in Barbados all the time. Its actually served in high end resturants. Recipe to try is parmesan crusted barcuda served with whatever mash you want.
After eating it, Barracuda is my favorite tasting fish. It's very clean and no fishy flavor whatsoever.

@@jaysonnorris9199 You can upload videos and leave them unlisted.
Viktor, i think its time for the landshark outdoors guide to the outdoors, fishing edition
Do you use weights for sabiki rigs and how do you use them
@@LandsharkOutdoors Fucket Up’. You kids. Sucks’ !!! Playing !!! Fish’s !!!!!
Took a snorkeling trip out of Nassau back in the early 2000’s. The guide said he loves cuda and has been sick twice, but if you bring him a fresh cuda he will never turn it down!
Your cooking skills make ANY fish taste good! keep it up!
It’s awesome to hear that you guys are going to the west coast for some fishing! Would love to see what all the cool species you’re gonna catch❤️
SoCal doesnt have near the fishes that FLA has! I live in SoCal & just returned from FLA Keys- wish I could stay there longer!
Another great video - We caught a load of these in the Bahamas - the boat's crew warned us not to eat them because of the ciguatera toxin in the local fish population so most went back - one crew member kept one as he said he was used to the ciguatera! However I had a large grilled 'cuda fillet from a reliable source in a restaurant and it was great....they're very aggresive beautiful fish....
Barracudas taste really good! I live on the gulf and have never had an issue with it, in the Caribbean they are more prone to make you sick but not on the gulf... I love it!
I really respect that you honor the animals you catch.
Viktor...put a rang on it...you already know, family is everything and you got it. Ready for you two to bring the next generation into the world and share their experiences with the world. Just like DMFD and Deer Mom. All the best!
This is considered as a luxury item in my country, very tasty if you know how to cook. 😍 Lovin' the content man.
I must say your cooking is legit! Great video man!
Super fan now. Like ten vids in a row. Good work
I grew up eating barracuda. We used to get a bunch of guys from the church and charter a half day boat out of Newport/ Balboa (Orange County California ). We would catch a boat load bring them back gut them and scale them and cross cut them about every 3-4 inches and fry them in corn meal and feed the whole church (50-60 people). Great eating!
Great Job Landshark! I appreciate your vids! Much Love from Bermuda! 🇧🇲
I hope the tuna bite is still hot when you get to San Diego! The past month of tuna fishing has been phenomenal. Got a couple 60# a few weeks ago. If they're not biting, you can still get yellowtail and WSB. Looking forward to those vids!
I've heard these are delicious again and again. I'll have to go get one. Your cooking skills are ever evolving, keep it up.
Your going to love San Diego, can't wait to see those uploads!
Good detail about how to hook bait... That helps us!
I love the channel and love to cook. I learn something every episode…
amazing video love what your doing i might have to try the recipe soon!
i live in naples and i did a catch clean and cook barracuda on the naples pier and everyone loved it. barracuda is a very good fish to eat. am from Jamaica and we eat it alot there never heard of anyone getting sick. good job vick
I've eaten Barracuda a number of times and as you say, it's delicious! I think the slot limit keeps larger 'cuda from being consumed and that's a good thing; they love Puffer fish.
Wow Victor amazing meal as usual, you never cease to amaze. We are from South Africa and in SA barracuda is a prized fish to catch, uf anyone catches it, they are on top of the world! So it's surprising that some of you guys think it's a trash fish. Thank you for showing people what a tasty fish barracuda is and what an awesome fight it gives. Love all your videos and Brooke's too, you guys make such an awesome couple. God bless 🤗
So true Kamroom, I also see they consider Shad(Blue fish) trash, I'll cook them one in an oven, I know it will change minds!
Cuda. The most underrated fish. On the rod and on the table. Love those “picudas”.
Mans it’s always so delightful to watch ur video! Keep it up!
The locals here in grand cayman also love barracuda! I sometimes eat them when I catch smaller ones on the flats or canals because they have a much lower chance of getting you sick compared to the ones out on the reef. They are certainly a good tasting fish despite how they stink!
I eat all the ones I catch from Pappagallo to the end of Barkers.
Not sure if this was meant as a good or bad suggestion. Then, of course, you have the thumb up bots lol!!!
I'm so glad you did this, because lately Barracuda is all I can catch lately!! Now do Black Lady Fish.. Please
Capt Johnny is the man!
Heyyy y’all I love watching your videos I live in Clearwater and I haven’t got to go on a boat since I been here and it’s AWSOME to love vicariously through y’all’s channel. Good job
Hope you get on a boat soon
West Coast here, I have eaten Pacific Barracuda since I was a kid--but always told "the Atlantic" kind is poisonous, really glad to see this presentation. Thanks
Hi guys, first about the ciguatera disease. I’m born and raised in Miami and have grown up catching them my whole life. Normally the barracuda you will know right away because the eyes are yellowy and they don’t fight hard. Only had a few in almost 50 years. Secondly I had the fortune to go to Alaska in the summer of 2019 and it was the trip and experience of my lifetime. Can’t wait to see you guys making videos over there. Good luck and hope to bump into you out there sometime.
Making me hungry bud. Glad to see
I sprung up on Sebastian inlet, way back in the day
Keep it up,flo has been calling my name
Ive been thinking about going to Alaska for fishing, excited to see what you get! Fish on🤘🏼
same here, been wanting to go up there for a while
Bro great video I love the ending of all your videos. Fishing is great and awesome but spending time with family and friends is time well spent. Keep up the good work. I see your restaurant coming soon. Lol
Beautiful plate chef. Great vlog
Love the vids man keep up the good work 💯‼️
Thank You for promoting Barracuda!
Cant wait for the next videos! You guys are so amazing.🥰
Ate Barracuda that I caught out in open water in the Keys, always heard the smaller ones were safe to eat..
I used to feed the Cudas in San Diego, knew they had a nasty bite & attack shiny things. Never ate one. Never heard of Sigaterra. You guys are SO amazing & I watch bc you are so respectful; as fisher-people, as a couple to each other, and how you are to everyone else. World would be a better place if there were more Viktor & Brooks' in the world!
Ciguatera
Great show! Barracuda, right there in the Baca Raton Bay!👍
That was amazing good looking food I'm glad a new subscriber love it ....thumbs way up ...
Heck yea, Alaska bucket list for sure ! “No such thing as trash fish ,just trash cooks” that has always stuck with me when you would say that !
Popped up with severl youtube choice videos. Gave it a click and was pleasantly surprised. One of the best fishing videos I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Yeah, I subscribed. Looking forward for more.
Moving to Florida this winter, Cape Coral area. Looking forward to the great fishing and great food. I live in Oregon now, close to the Columbia River, there used to be great fishing, but not so much now. Most of the regulations are written to support the Gill Netters and not the rod and reel fishermen here on the Columbia. Love your channel and really like the catch, clean and cook videos.
Another great video. I've eaten almost every seafood here in S.C. except barracuda. It's next on the list.
i’m over here eating oatmeal while i watch Vic cook a 5 star meal 😂
Haha yep currently holding a bowl with cream of rice in it
Oh man barracuda are a bucket list fish of mine for sure, so cool.
Vic we fish here in Puerto Rico and we love the barracuda. I cut rings and mmm delicious. 👍love watching the whole family. But love watching your friends too.
The world: thats a bad fish to eat
Vic: say no more
us watching the video: Im eating Barracuda tonight :P
I love what you do Vic thank you for these awesome videos you and Brook one amazing family, god bless you and your whole family.
Like the locals in the Bahamas say; "Mon, if it comes out of the Ocean you can cook and eat it - you just need to learn how"!
Can't wait to see California and Alaska!
Just always a treat to watch brook and Vic videos I'm turning 40 next month and my wife told me she was gonna try to pay Victor to take me fishing lol I told her yeah good luck babe but love her for the thought would be cool to do like a fishing with Vic and Brooke give away tho just a thought if ur ever over in the ft Myers area let us know would love to meet u guys thanks for the entertainment guys😊
Those barracuda were so cool!! Great fish !!!
In the 80's we had a lady at Dana Point Marina who would make Fish and Chips with fresh caught Barracuda. IT really was to die for.
as an avid fisherman who grew up with his cuban family. we love cuda, i’ve had them even when they’re giant. only cig story i’ve ever heard was from a parrot fish from the bahamas.
That looked great, well done!
Love catching and eating them in the Azores. I've even dried them and eaten it like salt cod. Delicious.
Awesome video! Educate the people🔥🙌 We love to eat Barracuda here in Trinidad in the Caribbean!🌴🤙🏽
The best ceviche I’ve ever had in my life was made with barracuda. Please try it it is so delicious
Great video as always!👏 and yes, most people won’t eat it but they are very tasty 😋
looking forward to your san diego videos. You will love it here in San Diego.
Nice vid Vic!
Can you do more beach fishing?🤙🏼
I love your videos keep up the good work💯💯
Yummy. Thanks again Vic.
The stuff you cook and the way you cook it reminds me of some pricey restaurants
In New Zealand each year we export tons of cuter to SA where it is sold as Snouk.
Barracuda is a delightful taste.... Phenomenal!
Branch out, fresh and exciting?!
I grew up in the SanDiego area and worked 22 years in Alaska ....,
Both are very fun so Enjoy!
Not a trash fish at all! Prized in Japan and definitely a rare treat to have Kamasu (barracuda) prepared by the chef.
This episode surprises me the most. No one would think the fearsome Barracudas live next to human apartments.
love barracuda .its all in the prep lov the dish
On the west coast barracuda is sought after. Very good eating fish!
When I used to live in Florida, we ate barracudas before, I liked them
, barracudas actually have lots of meat and its delicious.
Vic, you are so awesome on camera, so awesome with people, just an overall amazingly personable person one day I'd like to meet you and go fishing with you. I am in Vegas right now so I've only been here for 6 weeks who knows when I'm going to be going to Florida though I might go there for college for audio engineering. But I'm going to look you up buddy you're awesome appreciate you
Awesome cooking!
In southeast Asia barracuda is a staple market fish and it's sold by linear measurement and not by weight. I've always enjoyed it as one of my favorite fish and chips species. Tight lines to you.
I was just in San Diego and you guys are in for a real treat. You HAVE TO check out the fishing off the Coronado Islands, wont be regreted. Get ready for some cold water!
Go to San clemente Island to catch but [blue fin tuna]
Young man, you can cook for me anytime!! Beautiful presentation and I'm sure tasted as good as it looked!
