Excellent overview of the four stages of the steam cycle and how steam energy is harnessed for propulsion and generation of electricity! Love the quality of these old films

I`m a ex BT. Working as a pipefitter/welder. I teach a steam theory class at an apprenticeship school. As old as this film may seem, its a wonderful visual training aid.

I remember seeing this film at the BT "A" school at Great Lakes back in the early 70s.

To williamorton7600: DD 850 and the other DDs of the era did have M-type boilers, as did most World War II-era combatant ships other than DEs. I'm not sure why they chose the DE-type boiler as their illustrative example.

I'm surprised DD850 had a D type boiler. I guess only the CG and bigger had M type boilers. Gotta go break out my steam tables now. Great training aid.

Just in the 1st 2 and a half minutes I would change the used steam returns as feedwater to the used steam returns as condensate. I wouldn't call it feedwater until it passes through the D.A tank and is injected with boiler water treatment chemicals "as needed".
