First page I have found with very useful, thinking outside the box fixes Between this and the contact cleaner on the impacts. I have 3 impacts that do not respond to a good battery, or shut off 1 second after trigger being held. not a connection issue at the Battery. is there a fix for that? I pull tools apart for 20 foreman so I deal with alot of them... Can you do a DCH273/293 losing its hammer function? That is a common one I deal with at work, sick of bringing the tools to Dewalt and not seeing it for 6 weeks
I have done few videos on the dch273 and dch253 The one below is one I did purely to help people it won't get good views but it the most complete guide I have done ruclips.net/video/kN8-LQnBaLQ/видео.html
I’ve never welded nickel strips before, any tips on that before I take on this repair challenge. I have about $4,000 in dead flexvolt batteries. Ready to go back to corded tools soon if this keeps up. Just killing batteries every month in the chop and table saws.
Yessir, most of them die within the first year as well. I haven’t been impressed with the technology as of late. I feel like there should be some sort of safety protection against overloading the battery before it’s just useless. Again, any tips on welding the nickel strips as I have never attempted this fix before.
No the battery was put under pressure. Something like being run hard on a power hungry tool there was a potential overload but these connections are designed to burn out instead of causing a battery to overload. Reconnecting them is fine because the danger was only in that moment.I do however use light nickel so in the same eventually they will burn out like a fuse again.
Good question the connections are designed to break like a fuse if the battery is pushed hard to stop an overload. It is usually not something that is a longterm problem only in the moment the pressure was on the battery if you reconnect with fine strip it will break if a problem occurs again.
@@doctorlefthandthread Thank you so much for this! I have a 60 volt DeWalt battery that I used just once and it zonked out on me, and I'm 99% sure it's because of the cheap DeWalt Wannabe light I bought. It drained it while it was just sitting around doing nothing. Cuz it worked perfectly before I plugged it into that el-cheapo DeWalt Wannabe light. It's one of those "Made For DeWalt" items from Amazon. I like the light. I just hate that if I let it sit around it eats batteries like that.
Hi I’ve got a 12ah flexvolt battery . It goes from 1 bar to 3 bars in about 5 minutes in the charger then stops charging . Surely this can’t be right 🤷♂️my other 12ah one takes at least an hour
It will work however I chose to use the strip to restore the fuse type set up to the battery so if an overload happens again it will blow the strip and not anything else on the board
I have same battery showing full bars and 19.5v on the meter. It will only work on one drill. The other 2 drills are working with other batterys but not that one, i cleaned all the battery connections. Any idea?😂
@@doctorlefthandthreadI have a 1 bar charge to full issue. 3 different chargers all say the same. So charger ruled out. Battery works on both 18v and 54v. Zero issues inside far as I can see very clean actually. My next thing to do is tear it down check cells for imbalance of voltage or faulty cell. I what would u try next
@@JosephODonnell-m8v I stopped working at the Flexvolt I had a bad turn around with them could only get about one in 10 working. Not taking Flexvolt for the time being but that could change in the future.
Mine is dead, it gets charge with jump start, but it won’t charge with the charger (the charger works just fine) anyone knows how tu fix it? (The battery is practically new and very clean)
They are difficult to repair most of the time all you can do is check for broken connections. If none are found discharge it fully then bring it up with a DC power supply to 17v on the lower range if it doesn't charge it is done
Another mighty fix, may the fixes never end💪💪
Lots to come it's mad at the minute
That's the job. Good man
Also curious what thickness of nickel strip you used.
0.1mm is the size I used
What drill bit is needed to open up the battery case?
Security torx bit 10 (tx10)
What thickness nickel strip did you use
0.01mm keeps it safe not too heavy will burn out in the case of an overload and easy for the welder I use
Logical reason for the problem. 👍

The flexvolt have issues with people killing them

@@dustindunsmore1125 I think the protections on them fail too easily I spot weld or solder the nickel strip depending on which one is burnt through
what caused those 3 broken connections? physical impact?

What special Torx head is needed? Mine has little nipples inside the head, like anti theft screws.

Why would the connection break like that is there something else wrong?

Nice!! 🫡 where do you get nickel strip without going on holiday to the konga with shovel in hand 🤷♂️😂 thanks 🙂
I have never been to Konga. I get the strip from good old ebay

What size bit to remove screws
Security torx T10 so TX10
What happens if that doesn’t work?
It's more complicated and there are no easy answers

Why not just bridge the broken connections with solder instead of nickle strip?

You can use a spot welder I soldered it on this occasion

All the companies have their overpriced garbage and their great items.
