You only use COLD water never warm or hot. We going to demonstrate the old fashion way of hand washing a Shemagh. We soaked the shemagh for 15 min.

My mom didn't Listen and put it in the the washing machine and dryer instead of washing it by hand
sigh... Show your mom this video
So I’ve had this Palestinian keffiyeh for about a year, wear it every now and then, but I got home from a protest the other day and I smelled it and I was like “okay I need to wash this” and so I did and the water in the sink I put it in turned a yellowish color from all the sweat and food and tea and other stuff that has gotten on it since I bought it.
Thanks so much for making the video. It was really helpful.
Needed a video to tell you to wash a garment for the first time in a year when you've sweat in it and spilled tea/food on it all along the way? 🤦🏻♂️ How did you not smell or even more so taste that it needed to be cleaned lol...
Washing in a bucket with a laundry soap bar works even better! Squeezing out the water without twisting then line dry it! I save the towel trick for when I’m traveling or otherwise in a hurry!
GREAT idea!
I occasionally put mine in the wash, haven't had any adverse effects yet. I mostly wash it in the shower with me along with my other tube masks for the pandemic. I do use hot water, being that's what helps kill viruses. So far, my $13 eBay desert scarf from India is ok after months of using it every day.
I actually found this video AFTER I washed my keffiyeh.
I soaked it for about 2 hrs smh.
It lost a wee bit of dye, but is totally fine.
Thank you so much for the upload!! Will follow this next time!!
I've got a few old ones that I have considered putting in the washing machine - risky but I think my plan is a pretty good one and I've already bought some new ones to ensure I'm able to have clean ones and possibly carry another clean one if needed during the pandemic.
A polyester pillow case (horrible to sleep on but STRONG), fold the sweaty/greasy shemaghs flattish, insert into the pillowcase, tie a knot in the open end, pop it into eco-wash cycle on my washer (approx 15 mins on my machine) but I think a baby wash cycle might be perfect - override the temp to cold. Once its halfway thru, pause the cycle to let the detergent do more magic, unpause, rinse and then spin it under 600rpm. Towel dry and flatten to completely dry. If needed relatively straight away, use the girlfriends hairdryer to dry. :-D
I think it sounds like a good plan.
Thanks for this video. I washed my Shemagh and it still smelled weird. I washed it again and put some downy in the wash tub. That was the ticket, now it smells spring fresh, haha.
I washed my first one in a washer. Thanks for saving my second 🤟🏼
No problem!!
washed mine in the washer with warm water it did its job didnt get destroyed or anything aside from the colors fading haha
👍
My mom put mine through the machine is there a way to fix it :(
:(
My green and black one turned the sink dark black and green and the dye would not stop running out. Any sugestions
Just dye it black permanently and forget you had green on it...
Thanks for this video. Why can't you air dry the shemagh?
You can
How about just air drying in the shade outside
I dry mine by draping it over a fan. It dries in less then ten minutes and cools the room some too.
great idea
My Shemagh was put through the wash and now shrank sideways, is there anyway to fix this? The garment is in tact.
no
@@SurvivalSavvvy Well I don't have to worry know since it's only a bit of a rectangle now and smooth after a few days of wearing it.
50 minutes or 15 minutes?
15 min is good but you can do 50 if it makes you feel better :)
Secret Stuff ™ alright thanks I just couldn't tell what you were sayin haha.
hahahaha.... I need to get those marbles out of my mouth.
Secret Stuff ™ and I need to get them out of my ears... haha
Why only cold water? Why no line drying?
Can I air dry it on my scarf/clothes rack?
yes
Can you drape it over a door or shower curtain to air dry? Thanks
YES!
Do you know how to get stains (unknown stains, from being in storage for years) out of a white & pink Shemagh?
U could try 50% Vinegar mixed with 50% water.
You might want to check its not fabric mold thats stuff is very bad for you and almost impossible to get rid of
Help, any suggestions to wash one that was stained with iodine?
