- Derek Hammond-Stroud as Koko and Heather Begg as Katisha.
I have found an old VCR with this 1973 production of The Mikado and here is a little sample, I may upload more if there is interest.
Such a great example of a vanished format: A production designed specifically for the television studio and not simply putting TV cameras in front of a theatrical production. Lots of shows were done this way in the early days of TV. It sits somewhere between a stage production and a movie.
IF there is interest? Of boy, you've got hordes of G&S fans salivating over this production! Please give us more!
Stunningly "clean" transfer visually, thank you! And Hammond-Stroud, Begg, conductor David Lloyd-Jones and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are in top form.
Please share. There are so very many G and S fans in the world! thank you!
It's actually a very sad song isn't it.
Especially when done "straight" as here. It was part of Gilbert & Sullivan's joint genius that they could shift from broad character comedy to pathos and back again seemingly effortlessly. (LOVE the way Hammond-Stroud delivers "I knew the bird intimately.")
Please upload more, its great 👍🏻
Dit-willow! I mean Ditto!
