Many seem to overlook an interesting part of this movie. When John is blown up and is saved by barkeep, he gets a good look at barkeep's face. There is a pause there. When John gets his new face and looks in the mirror he recognizes that he saved himself and is now barkeep. He then quips: "I've changed so much that my mother wouldn't even recognize me." By the end of the movie this irony is magnificent.

Good note. The film is entirely based on metaphor. It's good to address the philosophical aspect of the film, but it only represents its dilemma, unlike the psychological side that occupies the biggest space in the film's shoes, based on the metaphor, of course.

@@axelortiz8047 The song is in the original story (which I read when it was published in 1959-I was twelve). Robertson is not in the story, and the Fizzle Bomber is implied but not seen. I think that those two characters were added to the movie at least partly to make the material last a whole movie's length, to explain why John changes appearance, and thus to give Ethan Hawke enough screen time to balance Sarah Snook. It looks to me as if the movie makers did exactly the right thing.

I love that as young John, they are determined they would kill the one who ruined their life. But as bar keep they love young John so much, the only thing they can do is put things in motion. Because of course young John is the only person they have ever loved. Except of course when they were young John and looked in the mirror and the reflection reminded them of the person who broke their heart. But then when Bar Keep gets a new face that even their mother wouldn’t recognise, that detaches john from the reflection, and now when he is face to face with the fizzle bomber he doesn’t see the one they loved, giving them the conviction to kill the one who ruined their life. But then the lament for how much they miss John, they end up on the path to become the fizzle bomber, who only wants to be loved once more by John.
    I love this premise!

Like any other sci-fi plot, it's something that makes you think. Here, however, we have something that transcends the tone and method of Serling or Hitchcock---it's it's own film, no sequel necessary, no other explanation needed than what the audience takes away.

This makes me about The TDE(Time Displacement Equipment) from The Terminator franchise.
I would like to know how and when Skynet created this machine.

the only difference is I dont think Skynet wouldent have become self aware enough to have learned enough about the Theories of Paradoxes let alone either the Pre Destination or Grand Father Paradoxes.

Always weird to see an old workplace in a movie. Parts of this were shot in a university building in Melbourne Australia where I have spent many hours. That long stairwell and the rooms with the round window are unforgettable. got some amazing photos there over the years.

The egg came first because it evolved before chickens witch means the fist True chicken population was born from a population of not true chickens that laid eggs so the egg came first and the first egg was created by what were likely some arthropods but if you’re thinking of the eggs that would lead to chicken eggs they were likely evolved by the first fish that lead to tetrapods so yeah the egg is not only first but it existed before the idea of chickens was even comprehendible

Well needless to say te fact that is one of my favorite movies I have to thank you for yet another amazing analysis , as it stands untill now you have been one of the first to discuss this movie thank you. I believe that his purpose is to question your own existence and choices that you take and also show that some of them are a sure thing to happen everything realise on one another as such your future is not unknown is a certitude such as death that comes by your own "free will". I admit that after I've watched this for the first time I enjoyed the role playing and the dialogue without taking a deeper view inside what it meant. Thanks once again and I hope you might check out Mr Nobody some day .

👍. Always Great! Odd side comment: I feel if I had not grown up as a Boomer; and with LIBRARIES & Summer School Reading lists and Parents who taught us to Love Books, I wouldn’t have such a good grasp on plots or themes. Maybe because while Reading, you naturally can get MORE involved ( I feel) because I is a slower process with less outside distractions. Happy Sci-Fi!

Jane was the Strong & the Weak force, inseparable, and Barkeep was the Electromagnetic force. The Gravity was emotionless guy lightly appearing yet weighting them down.

"The Snake That Eats Its Own Tail, Forever and Ever. I know where I came from---but where did all you zombies come from?"
"You aren't really there at all. There isn't anybody but me---Jane---here alone in the dark."

A zombie is a creature who has no mind, seeks to canabalize the living, and operates out of habit or instinct rather than rationality or compassion. It is a fitting title for a story where the main character would kill himself.

4:12 you kind of gloss over this point, but if Jane was raised in an orphanage, and later became John, how did he/she become barkeep? I know the facial reconstruction is supposed to be a magic wand but they have different heights and builds and body types....

    • @c.e.santos8708
      @c.e.santos8708 4 года назад +2

Jane applied for the agency but was rejected because she was a woman (loop - Barkeep and John goes back in time at this point so John can impregnate Jane as a safeguard to keep the loop going) Jane gives birth, Barkeep takes the baby and stashes it presumably in his apartment, Barkeep goes back to John (scene where John leaves Jane at the bench; before the childbirth and operation) Barkeep and John meets Fizzle Bomber, John’s face gets messed up then retreats back to the Agency for reconstruction. Barkeep goes for the baby and places it back in time at the orphanage ensuring that the loop will continue.
Barkeep becomes Fizzle Bomber (since he shot him)
John becomes Barkeep (knowing that he experienced what happened on the other side of the table as Jane so he knows exactly what to do to keep the loop, plus you should take note that John is an agent of the Agency and that the bar was situated at a point in time where the Fizzle Bomber was active so it was an essential time point, this was a constant. John has to go back at this point of time to ensure that he’ll meet his other self thus also keeping the loop alive)
      Baby becomes Jane

This is more a continuity in casting error and not so much a problem with a plot hole. I would say the casting director/ director of photography is to blame. One could say you are to blame for not suspending disbelief.
