I love many genres in gaming and one of my favorite things are the atmosphere. Rather It's a peaceful one like Super Mario 64 or a slow and horror like theme like Resident Evil It's wonderful , exciting and fun. Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda are also amazing I enjoy those games the most and It's always fun. Cool video. ^_^
Atmosphere is the single most important thing to me in games. Something like Mario Galaxy 2 might be arguably a better game than Galaxy 1, but Galaxy 1 has such a strong and unique sense of atmosphere and has stuck with me longer because of it. If you haven't already played them, the first two Team Ico games absolutely nail atmosphere. It's their strongest point IMO.
I like to tie atmosphere to “realism” the thought process of it “jUsT a GaMe” never sit right with me considering the more realistic attributes you give it the more immersed a player can be even in a sci-fi setting.
