      He never said they threatened to take action. They were probably just informing him that he could not sue *them* because despite the 'AC' characters used in the advertisements, they never claimed it was an actual air conditioner.
      My parents have one of those nice-looking 'O-ring' coolers that appear to be working by magic because it has no fan.
      Surprise, the fan is hidden in the base. It also has a cooling element built in so if you sit in front of it, at close distance, you can enjoy the cool air.
      But like I already mentioned in another reply, the room itself will not get any cooler because any electric device (or gas operated device) creates more heat than it can produce cool air. Air conditioners included, that is why they vent the hot air via a seperate channel to the outside. Or that is why actual air conditioner units are placed in the window or even outside of a building, ensuring it only blows its cool air into the room.

    • @eggmayonnaise325
      @eggmayonnaise325 3 года назад +2

      @Deborah Ajao Yes, that is the same principle as "swamp coolers" (technical name: evaporative coolers). They blow air over water mimicking the effect of a sea breeze. Decent evaps have pumps to circulate the water and special cooling pads to channel the water. However, they need ventilation in order to work effectively. So you should place them next to an open door or window to get the best cooling effect. In a confined space, they will just pump humidity into the air as he explains in the video which makes you feel hotter.

      For that first of all you need to get a book or magazine. Ideally 10 to 12 inches in length, 6 to 7 inches weidth and around 0.5 inches thick.
      Hold the book or magzine in your right or left hand as per your convenience and then bring it near your face about 4 inches from your face.
      Make sure that the book is perpendicular to your face and then start bending your hand back and forth 1 - 2 times a second.
      Keep repeating the process till you start keeping that your current hand is getting tired and then switch your hand and move to the previous step.

      A lot of this stuff has it's basis in conspiracy thinking. That's why those "Doctors hate him!"-style ads are so effective. Longwinded anecdote time: I have a friend who once tried to convince me that some lone genius inventor once made a car that runs on water, only for him to die under mysterious circumstances and the oil companies and car industry buried his research. He knew it had to be true because he saw it on facebook once. And when I tried to explain all the reasons why that makes no sense he accused me of being a gullible sheeple corporate shill. He's a grown-ass 50 year old guy btw. So I went online and spent WAY TOO MUCH time looking into the story, from proper, credible news sources and court records, and it turned out it was based on a con artist "scientist" who claimed he had invented a hydrogen combustion engine (not water, hydrogen) that claimed scientifically impossible efficiency numbers. He took his investors for millions, claimed to have a prototype that nobody ever got to see because he was supposedly paranoid "Big Oil" was going to steal it, and in the end he got taken to court where he failed to produce any prototype, blueprints or scientific data that would suggest his miracle engine was even theoretically possible. He then died of cancer several years and several other cons later. But that didn't fit my friend's narrative and world view at all, so he insisted that my sources must have been bought by the big corporations and the goverment. **facepalm** Truly, the only credible source of information is a rando on Facebook who agrees with all your preconceptions and tells you you're a Very Smart Boy for believing his crazy story.

  • @luella2u152
    @luella2u152 3 года назад +2

    I bought the BreezeMax AC. I knew that it wasn't an air conditioner, but more like a swamp cooler. But thinking that we each have a rather small bedroom these might actually work for us. Nope. They advertised the units as being 80% off the regular price, which made them about $50 each, when you bought 2 units. Then they tell you that if you order a third unit it will be half off, which should have been $25. I also ordered the replacement filters and an additional warranty. So when I check my account balance, I discovered that I had paid about $350. The units finally arrived and at first inspection we can see that, minus the plastic housing, it's basically a computer fan with a water reservoir. We plugged one in and it barely blows any air. I called customer service as spoke with a rep who obviously didn't speak English as their primary language and am offered an additional %50 off if I keep them. Up to that point, the rep was more or less pleasant. When I said that I didn't want to keep them, the rep asked what I didn't like about the unit. I said that for the money I could have a whole house air conditioner and I just want to return them and be refunded and they had a "money back guaranty" in the advertising. Now I'm being rude, according to the rep. He says he will send me the info to return the units, but I will have to pay for the shipping. I paid shipping of $9.95 to get the units, so I agree. Return shipping cost me $80. I was further informed that I only had 30 days from the receipt of the product to return them and I would receive an email confirmation within 72 hours receiving the package. I wisely had them sign for the package, so that I knew exactly when they received it. No email confirmation was received and it took weeks for them to refund my money. NEVER AGAIN! Now I will only buy through known and trusted vendors like Amazon or the big box stores.

They introduced a range of fans and tried to claim that they could lower the temperature of a room, despite the fact that they don't contain any refrigerant gas or cooling element. They even had ads showing red air going in to the fan and blue air coming out the front, deliberately deceiving the customer by pretending that the fan could change the air temperature. They were reported to trading standards and subsequently changed their ads very subtly but they still call it "Dyson cool". They also cost several hundred pounds, when they do the same thing as a desk fan from a hardware store!

      Same here, also have one. Its actually providing some nice extra cooling compared to a fan but its more a face cooler, not a room cooler. I say these are not complete BS but they are not at all what they claim to be and no they can NOT cool a room at all and are NOT AC devices. They will only cool a local surface placed very close to the machine. The reason they cant cool a room is because these devices don't transport heat away from the area but instead rely on surface cooling the same way as why we sweat to keep cool. It blasts you with a mist of water and air and as that water then evaporates from your skin due to the airflow from the fan it cause local cooling but that heat in the end instead adds to the total heat in the room (cause the heat need to go somewhere). A true AC instead is a heatpump that need a sealed air outlet/hose to the outside to activley pump the heat away from the entire room or building to outside of the building. Same wikth a refrigerator. The inside of it holding the food gets cold but the room the refrigerator is placed in get hotter as this is where the heat is transported.

    I bought one of the coolers at the Home Depot, because I know what a swamp cooler can do, and what it can't. I have used mine as a spot cooler, and if it is dry enough, then it works. A rule of thumb is that a swamp cooler works if the DEW POINT is lower than 60 degrees. As the dew point increases above 60, the cooler becomes less and less effective. Fresh air needs to be introduced into the area, because as the cooler runs the air around the cooler increases in humidity, the dew point increases, and the cooler doesn't cool. I'm fine with my purchase. It was on sale for about $19, and I know how to use it.

    I've never heard anyone mention, that the refrigerator pumps out more heat making ice, than any cooling you could will ever get from the ice.

      The cooling capacity of ice is so comically low lol. Add the heat from the freezer and you're in a net negative for sure, swamp coolers don't even need ice or cold water to work.

  • @MLennholm

    One thing many people don't think about is that the ice you have to put into these things needs to be created somehow, which is done by putting water in your freezer. All the heat energy pulled out of the water needs to go somewhere and where does it go? Your freezer spews it out as warm air right into your house, so the net effect is that you're not cooling anything and in fact all the mechanical action of the machines involved will slightly raise the temperature in your house.

    I bought one from Home Depot (Artic Air), I didn't expect the claims to be valid ,however, I was satisfied with the performance because....well, I knew what to expect! It is simple a tiny swamp cooler! But if you direct the air on you and put the wet filter element in the freezer for about 45 minutes, it will cool you for a little while.....long enough to let you drift off to sleep. And it's not too loud. In fact I like the light noise it makes because I live near a highway and it drowns out most of THAT noise. Also note that this is used in my bedroom in conjunction with the central A/C system because my room gets full sun and is hotter than the rest of my home, so I have to supplement by using some sort of fan or turn the A/C temperature down; which will make the bill go up! If you know what you are buying and you ignore the goofy claims and the inflated prices you may enjoy one of these as I do......I paid $38 for mine which is a little pricey for what it is but I'm pretty satisfied.

  • @BN99239
    @BN99239 2 года назад +1

    I actually have the Arctic Cool, which I got for about $30. It's pretty much a tiny swamp cooler. I use it as a desk fan and it works really well when temperatures are below 95* F outside and below 83* F inside. It's definitely not an AC and yes I have to soak the filter and pour in water but it DOES keep me from using my central AC, as long as I'm about 2ft away from the fan. What's interesting is that the unit works my spraying out water from the tank onto the filter which the air passes through, but the water part doesn't really help as much as the soaked and wet filter. I don't have to replace the water for a good 10 hours of running, which is nice, but the cooling is significantly less when the filter dries out, so I do have to soak the filter every 2 hours if I want it to stay super cool. Ice or ice cold water in the tank doesn't help with cooling as much. It makes sense that ice would help cool things down but by the time that turns into mist, it's just about as cool as room temperature anyhow. Long story short, these mini evaporative fans DOES cool you off DIRECTLY more than a regular fan but it will not change the temperature of the room itself. If anything, like mentioned in the video, the overall room temperature may be hotter because the unit is introducing more moisture and humidity into the room. Also, the unit probably works less efficiently in very humid climate.

    I did buy one of these from Amazon ( I rarely buy off of that platform), it is nothing more than a fan with a built in battery. It sits on my desk or bedside table. I paid $66 CAD for it. I treat it as a portable fan. It does work a lot better than the mainstays branded fan from Walmart, which stopped working within a week. I would be reluctant to buy another one. Mine is unbranded, and works within my expectations.

    When someone gave me an old "swamp cooler" when I was younger, it didn't take me long to figure out they are the stupidest form of "cooling" equipment there is. If you use ice in them from your fridge, the fridge generated more heat producing the ice. And they humidify the air, making it harder to sweat off any heat. Basically, they provide some short-term relief to the person it blows on directly at the sacrifice of the long-term comfort of the rest of the space.

    I was able to get the Blast Auxilary unit from a facebook listing for about $50 so I wasn't ripped off heavily like others, but I was surprised by just how cheap it was. It's a glorified desk fan at best. I've used it for a month and a half now and stopped filling it with water after a few weeks in because it made zero cooling difference. Also pouring water in it just accelerated the amount of mold and dust that was accumulating on the water curtain. Since I stopped using the mist function I just took the curtain out and it works better as a basic fan! I've also just been using it during the winter to balance out the heat in my apartment that I don't control. Also the thing has a hilariously short battery life and somehow turns itself off after it's been on for 12 hours.
    Glad to know it was all false advertising!
