UPDATE (2): Hey everyone! Due to popular demand, I made a simple playlist of all "knock-off / scam" episodes of Krazy Ken's Tech Talk. Enjoy! More to come: bit.ly/clan3o1EdZ2
UPDATE: Blaux has reached out to me and I'm planning a follow-up video which addresses the points they mentioned in their email. And apparently it is pronounced "Blao" not "blow" so I'm sorry for that, haha. Stay tuned for an update…
Oh man… I think this is WORSE than the Lit Mobile debacle. Enjoy! Stay tuned for more because there might be some follow-up stuff coming soon. Feel free to subscribe for new tech videos every week! Also, please, please, please, do not prank call / contact Blaux. Let's be the bigger man. ; )

The ac and drone ad are identical. Down to the same stock footage. It's almost as if it's the same company pumping out these scams and reusing as much media as they can. Wonder who's behind these, because it's impossible that it's a coincidence. Surely it's not a NA/EU company, because they'd have been investigated by now for fraud.

And the Aussie adverts here pronounce it Bl-ow (rhymes with now). A common theme I've noticed on Amazon for products from brands you've never heard of is to sell something cheap, basic, and foolproof, get a ton of reviews for it, then change the entire page to a different product that probably doesn't work. All the reviews stay, but there are usually ones talking about how the "USB cable was a good value and has lasted them for 4 months" while you're looking at a page for a space heater.

    • @PinkAgaricus
      @PinkAgaricus 4 года назад +2

@@MarshalStomm Yep, I think especially with things that are sold by multiple 3rd party companies, such as cellphones (from established brands). Those sellers can put anything in the name of the product, like more memory than what is actually in the phone. (ram not storage space...for example inflating the amount to 6GB when the phone actually contains 4GB.) lol that was the complaint I saw the most.
Amazon can fix this by not putting multiple offerings (in terms of storage and memory compacity) on one page, they should be given an individual page to avoid confusion. I know they did this (the drop downs) to make it simpler, but both unscrupulous and confused vendors can take advantage of this.

That said, you would have to refill the reservoir much more often.
I think there is a real place for a product like this. For example, suppose you are taking a vacation in Arizona during the summer, and at one point you are camping out in a tent. Having a cooler like this nearby, that operates on battery power, would probably be pretty nice. You wouldn't get a ton of cooling, but you don't need a lot for a small tent, and if I were in that situation I'm sure I would pay a little for that. Not $90, but something. Sadly, this product is just a scam. I can imagine a real, honest equivalent might be pretty good in some niche situations.

Swamp coolers aren't very efficient when it comes to cooling spaces much larger than the immediate area around it, and their marketing materials is deliberately misleading. They're preying on people who aren't as experienced in filtering out the "too good to be true" garbage.
If it was an actual micro-ac with a compressor, it would require an exhaust line because guess what, an AC has to get rid of hot air. That's why EVERY real AC is either outside, or sticking out of a window, or (in the case of those wheeled portable units) has a big exhaust tube that you mount in a window.
Just like Lit mobile, this is another offshore company outside of any legal system that gives a shit, scamming English speaking countries.

Blaux air conditioner is a legitimate product. One day a man wanted to cool his oven, which had a fever. He was FURIOUS that he was helpless to cool his oven that got a fever from cryptosporidium that leaked into the house when the Mississippi river flooded. The man felt *helpless* to cool his oven, and it was his own fault that he got into this jam, because HE flooded the river by damming it up.
So he invented the Blaux AC unit. This man's name was Joe Blaux.
True story. I even have some badly photoshopped stock photos to prove it.

Most AC experts will tell you that the “conditioning” part of an air conditioner is that it needs to dry the air which makes you feel cool because perspiration will evaporate more effectively. Even if the air is the same temperature as the environment, of its dry you will feel cooler.
This device makes the air more humid which does not help if you’re in a humid environment. In dry climates, evaporative coolers (swamp coolers) work fine. In fact you see them on the roofs of a lot of homes in Nevada and Arizona.
Calling it an air conditioner is fraud in my opinion. A proper description of what it does and where it’s effective would be great. Except they wouldn’t sell many...

I was working on a project at an observatory in Arizona one August several years ago. The swamp coolers blowing into the warehouse where we had our work tables set up worked really well. Granted, these were industrial sized units (about 4 foot square front faces) and fed water with garden hoses. Even in the "wet" season in Arizona it was dry enough in the summer to work well. I don't think they would work nearly as well as just a fan (again, industrial 4 foot fan) in my home area of Delaware. It just gets too humid here for swamp coolers.
