    Hey Peter, Fellow Aussie here (with almost the same back story as yourself), currently living in Jomtien. I can totally relate to everything you discussed in your recent interview, life in Australia has simply become unaffordable. I did a "test run" here for 5 months after which I went back to Oz to finalise everything there. I agree 100% that everything just works out here in Thailand. I still cannot believe I made the move! Like you said, I decided to do it, worked towards it then just did it. I am so glad I made the move and am very grateful to the Kingdom of Thailand for making it do-able. I look forward to watching your upcoming videos.

      Hi, Thinking of doing the same later this year. Also thinking at Jomtien. But am only thinking of maybe 6-7 months in Thailand and then elsewhere for the other months. Would a retirement visa still be the way to go?. Thanks.

    • @DiscoveringThailand
      @DiscoveringThailand  2 месяца назад

      @sdnalyam yes, just get a multiple entry visa, and you can come and go as you like. I'm not sure what happens with the 90-day reporting if you are out of the country, though. 🤔

    Aloha and mahalo for the information. My wife and I will be retiring to Thailand in a few years and preparing everything beforehand and it's always helpful to keep up-to-date. Also, I heard that you'll be able to do the 90-day check-in's on the retirement visa online soon.

      Aloha@@DiscoveringThailand ! We plan on hiring an agent to take care of all of that including setting up our bank accounts. Technically I'm already retired (collecting SSI) but I also own my own business. I'll actually be heading out to Thailand a few months before my wife to set everything up and secure a rental location.

We've been living in Hawaii for 30+ years now, so it's almost like the best of both worlds living in the US and Asia. We just decided we want to live the rest of our lives out comfortably and the US is not the place to be.

    90 day reporting with a 01 yr retirement visa seems to defeat the purpose of the retirement visa. Seems a little odd.

    Quick question, I've read that if you have a certain amount of retirement/pension income that they will waive the need for the $800,000 deposit. Do you have any info on that?

    Hello, thanks for the videos on retirement visas. I’ll be applying for a tourist visa and plan to travel there on July 1st and then apply for a retirement visa. You mentioned that you need to have the 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for 2 months before you can apply for a retirement visa. Does this mean you would have to open an account then leave the country (after the tourist visa expires) return to Thailand on a visa exemption then apply for the retirement visa?

    • @DiscoveringThailand
      @DiscoveringThailand  2 месяца назад

      Check the latest visa news... there is a 60 day visa exemption coming that can be extended another 30 days. Plenty of time to get your bank account sorted.

    Lets not forget that it’s basically illegal when the visa agency helps you with the 800.000.
    Yes, it can work but nowadays the Thai government is getting more strict and if the agent gets caught doing this, it might get a lot of people deported who used those illegal ways.
