- We have always been home for Christmas and away for New Year but this year we thought we’d try something different, join us as we show you what we did on December 25th 2023.
This vlog is a stand alone day, the rest of the trip will be shown over two other videos, the first following this shows December 23/24/26 and the second at a different location with December 27/28/29.
While this video is rather self indulgent we wanted to share it with you and hope you enjoy it, we must remind you that above all we film primarily for ourselves as a diary so very occasionally they won’t be as “entertaining” as normal! Thanks for understanding.
Hi We're Rick, Heather & our dog Poppy and we travel the U.K in our S&L Apollo camper van “Athena”
We film the places we visit as our own diary, these videos are meant as a little memento for us but we're happy to share them with you if you want to watch.
We're just an ordinary couple in our 50's filming our adventures with basic equipment so don't expect loads of flash camera action and super editing with great music.
We also film videos of work we have done on our van as well as van reviews for our reference of the next van we might buy. Occasionally there are hints & tips videos too. We do basic site and area reviews including if they’re dog friendly but they’re a guide only based on our opinions which may or may not help you make an informed decision on if you’d like the place.
We do a mix of off grid camping, pub stopovers plus real campsites too, hopefully something for everyone to enjoy!

Well, we don’t know where to start 😂, we loved it - always entertaining. We did Christmas in the Moho a few years ago but in Spain, the sun was shining and we could sit outside so had more room to move around and prepare. I decorated and lit the pitch (H) - a lot, and did think planes landing at Alicante may get confused 😂 . Looks like you had a good time, safe travels H&M. 😀
One day our time will come to sit in the warm and forget about England for a few months… but we have fun being us and having no filter 🤣

I occasionally have a little whine but it’s rare….. we’ve resisted an air fryer so far….
we were thinking of going away in the van at Christmas, until Debz looked a the weather forecast !! 🙂 Got away at Oxclose Farm though for a few nights, it was bad up here for a good few days. All the best Trev Debz and Tyler x x

Well done H on a successful dinner. We prefer to be at home so I am with Rick except I've always fancied cooking Christmas dinner looking over a Scottish Loch. We eat at about 4pm with bubbly from 1 ish. I love chips, peas and cold turkey on boxing day, that said not really a fan of Christmas or New Year. Cheers K.
We toyed with Scotland for Christmas but because we’re going later this year decided South, definitely will do it in the future tho!

Can’t beat a turkey dinner for Christmas! Bah humbug! - highly recommend going out for the dinner if you go away again, saves the washing up 😂

What a great video guys, loved it. We have done the last four years in the van and to be honest it always took forever to get ready at home we just scale in the van. We have done the bird on the BBQ and used the oven for everything else. Chris

I like the idea of going away for Christmas but if I did I’m not sure if I would do the full roast thing. We went away for new years for the first time and had a brilliant and quiet night. I’m 10 months sober so I didn’t want any temptation. I love that you changed clothing for each course and feel like I might encourage my family to do the same 😂. I would have liked to have seen your Ghostbusters mime. Take care Gill

What is your opinion of the Auto-box..? is it a “True Auto” through a “Torque converter” or something else..? Please 🤔
The Fiat 9sp auto is a true torque converter automatic, manufactured by ZF. Very good by all accounts, I'll let you know in a couple of weeks when we collect a van with said auto.

@@RickandHeather the reason I asked, usually odd number of gears spells twin clutch , but I’m a fan of proper torque converter Auto’s… so that sounds fabulous
