  • Volume 4 of the Stacking Mexican Silver is a two-parter! We have so many fascinating and exciting silver options to cover from 1960 to the present that we split them into two videos: Video "A" covers 1960 - 1980. We'll explore the rapid devaluation of the peso relative to its silver content with graphic displays of real-world coins, then move forward to the controversial 1968 25 pesos and the last crown-sized circulating silver coin from Mexico: The 1977-1979 100 Peso and finish at the dawn of the modern bullion 1 ounce coins.

    The rumor of the 1964 Peace Dollar is pretty strong. I think its PCGS offers $10,000 just to let them SEE the coin.

      Yep. Illegal to own if they existed. Got ROASTED on Reddit recently for posting the controversial Daniel Carr restrikes.

    Thanks for sharing. Great info. I too am interested in the earlier Mexican coins. I’d like to know more about the pre-1980s and the weights and the fractional silver amounts are kind of confusing as to knowing what’s a good price or not. Or at least a good average window price.

    I love Mexican silver mainly for the historical figures on the coins. There is Cuahtemoc, who was the last Azrec emperor on the 5 pesos .900 silver 1948 coin. There is Benito Jaurez, first indigenous Mexican president on a 1957 silver coin. He was president of Mexico from 1858 to 1874 and led the liberal reform of the government. There are other historical figures like Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, and Father Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon, 2 Catholic priests who led the Mexican Revolution of 1810 and 1813 revolts against Spain for Mexican independence. Hidalgo is on the silver 10 pesos, Morelos is on the 1 silver peso. There is effigies of Francisco Madero and Hidalgo on the 1960 25 pesos, to celebrate the 150th and 250th anniversaries of the 1810 and 1910 Mexican revolutions. Other figures on Mexican coins are Josefa Dominguez de Ortiz, La Corregidora on a 20 centavo coin, there is a silver coin that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Venustiano Carranza, the first constitutional president of Mexico from 1913 to 1920. Then there are Mexican 10 peso silver pieces that celebrates the Southern Mexican Railroad and one that commemorates the 4 major figures of the 1910 Mexican revolution - Pancho Villa, Emiliano Zapata, Venustiano Carranza and Francisco Madero. There is a Spanish pillar dollar silver proof set, various half ounce, 1 ounce, 5 ounce silver coins from the 1980s and 1990s commemorating the 4 main MesoAmerican civilizations - Olmec, Toltec, Maya and Aztec civilizations. There is a 1913 to 1916 1 peso silver coin of a woman riding a horse. It's the most beautiful coin called a Caballito.*

    Mexico's Libertads feature the Angel of Independence between two volcanoes. Both volcanoes are dormant but one of them recently became active and spewed ash. People living nearby had to be evacuated. Below the Angel of Independence monument in Mexico City is a Mausoleum where Mexican heroes like Father Hidalgo are buried.

    Great video! Question: I have a blister pack of 10 of the Olympic coins. Did they actually come in this form?

    • @Dub-C_Coins
      @Dub-C_Coins  Год назад +1

      Thank you! Yes, I believe that these were originally offered in sheets of thin plastic packets. There are some currently on eBay in this form. I don't know that they were the only way these were offered. But I do think it was at least one way.

    That sure is a pretty collection, you have there!!, And ya I love Mexican silver!, I had question tho, I've noticed the 100 peso coin it says 20 grams on it but it actually weighs 27.5 grams , which is different as the other mexican silver coins with the weight on em, weigh exactly what is says it does, , why the discrepancy on the Cien peso I wonder? That makes it slightly complicated, but beyond that the weight on the coin along with the purity is just about my favorite thing about these coins..(along with lettered edging ; beautiful toning etc)

      @Dub-C_Coins  Год назад

      Hey J-Rad! Really good question and one that can definitely trip people up. Something that makes Mexican silver a little tricky.
      Numista.com gives the weight of the 100 peso at 27.78 grams. If you multiply that 27.78 grams by 72% (.720 pure), you get 20 grams of pure silver. And that's what the coin says at the bottom: 20 grams of PURE silver but 72% purity

    Wish I got like half as many views on my Mexican stuff.
